Cuz they lazy. I wish we could run onto the boat when it comes into port too...
hardly laziness, in xi you had to go onto the ship to make you use it, in xiv all we have to do is get through the port. thats the difference. Wouldn't exactly be effort to allow you to walk on when it arrives.
Well honestly i loved walking on and sitting in the boat waiting for it to depart, it added much more ambience into the game :)
There's many many posts about the lackluster boat ride from Ul'dah to Limsa.. It's no surprise to me that you can't board the boat considering once departed, the boat doesn't ACTUALLY MOVE!
The boat doesnt move, the world moves around you, like magic, sort of... cause... errrr... LOOK OVER THERE!
:moves boat:
SEE!
Yeah, I think they should allow us to enter the boat. :D
OMG i wish we could ; ;they should fix that issue.
when i read the name of the topic i was hoping it would be about this :)
I really do hate the way the boat works. Far too much like FFXI but worse since we can't board it. Even if we do get to board it we probably won't be able to go up to the upper deck due to it not being there like in FFXI. In FFXI it was nothing but an invisible platform which the non-solid boat model positioned itself over.
Even if we got that fixed we still can't move off with the boat and instead have to endure those repetitive cutscenes of the boat moving off with npcs boarding that we never ever see on board. Then we zone into that area where we have to suffer 10-15 mins of having nothing to do on a boat that isn't even moving.
While I don't really want to refer to WoW I would rather like the boat to work in a similar way. At least then we'd feel the boat is actually moving and we are moving with it. We'd know the ferry dock fading away into the distance is because it's us moving away from it and not the other way around. And the same applies when we would approach our destination and see other players coming into view as they wait to board or run about doing stuff.
It was wrong for SE to copy FFXI's method since that was based on cutting corners technically due to PS2 limitations. Doing the exact same many years later when technology has improved just seems lazy really. Not only that but it doesn't showcase the Crystal Tools engine very well either.
SE need to fix this and come up with a more respectable transport system for the ferry because if they don't I know I'm going to be very disappointed when they finally release airships.
Ich really like the idea as posted above. Though, I can live with the way XI's ferry ride was. Just add in some more variety and danger/ adventure. Like... pirate attacks! xD Oder spawning sea monsters! Now that would be awesome.
Oh and a shop... as I tend to forget my fishing rod!
I say we just need epic boss fights on those boat rides. XD
You know what this annoys me a bit.. The boat ride is just awful, whereas the opening scene from Limsa's boat ride is just phenomonal. I wish a dev would post on a thread about the boat ride because despite it clearly not being a 'high ranking' issue.. It is an issue and the current system sucks. They need to make the boat ride actually valid and usably exciting. Selbina > Mhaura. Mhaura > Whitegate..
I guess they could make the boat rock up and down & add a splash here and there. what would be sick is if the sail moved like if wind was hitting it..
or is that too much..
Carzilla it's too much. It would seem like a game made after 2000 and we both know SE is still in early 1990 =P
Today i experienced the boat ride and it was terrible.. the dev who tought it was a good idea should be shoot twice. Maybe someday they will add something interesting there but right now they should remove this timesink.
My main dislikes of the boat ride is that the boat doesnt feel like its sailing at all, the boat doesnt react to the sea, the boat has no visable crew other than the captain/driver. Theres a awful tear through the ocean when you look off to the right on the boat...
If i didnt have a fishing rod i would have absolutely nothing to do during the trip, i too would like to see pirate attacks and the like. I think the boat could prolly use a parley npc as well for those that dont fish or battle above deck.
i think all of those things need to be fixed. I really hated it when i would get to the boat before it left then it would leave without me even though I was standing next to it payed and everything -.- though i haven't done this recently they may have fixed that... But it would be nice if riding a boat actually felt like riding a boat... then i might do it more. Oh and don't forget the random sea mobs that come on-board!~
