Is there any other method for quicklyleveing alternate classes besides FATE grinding?

I haven't seen any threads on this topic anywhere, so I am posting a new one to see if I'm the only one who feels this way.

I've been level 50 on my White Mage for about a month now. I got my relic last week. For endgame utility I decided that I would level up Arcanist as well that way I would have access to Scholar as well. But, much to my dismay, it would seem that now that I am lacking quests the only efficient option for leveling another class is to Grind FATEs. The same FATEs I did to level Thaumaturge to 26. I don't know about you, but my idea of fun is not grinding the exact same content that I've already done for 2-3 days. Is there something I'm missing? Is there another way for me to level other classes? At this point I'd just as soon not level another DoW or DoM because of how mind numbingly boring FATEs get after rehashing them for the 20th time.

dungeons, leves, hunting log, quests you didn't complete the first time around. in the mid levels ive actually heard of people doing monster grind parties, but I can't imagine anyone preferring that to fates.

Im in the same boat. I would totally like to level WAR to 50 on this char as well but I apparently wasn't thinking about that when I did all the side quests. Leves give you okay exp. up to around 40 and then they are kind of ridiculous, 8,000 exp per leve when all the other quests were giving me 12,000. If you have rested and food, then running through dungeons isn't terrible experience but its not as good as FATEs and if your a DD the wait times almost make it a total waste. Im having this issue with just leveling one other class, how are you supposed to level more than that on one char? Most of the cross skills require you to level at least 2 other classes, some to past 40.

My primary motivation for playing any game is fun, if there's some part of a game that I don't enjoy I tend to avoid it because there's other things that my time would be better spent on. I'm not asking Square Enix to make leveling easier, I'm just asking them to make it more fun. I really enjoyed leveling White Mage to 50. The story quests were cinematic and fun, even FATEs and Leves were a nice filler for 3/4ths or half a level. If leves got buffed so that doing them was worth the time and effort I would be doing those. The same thing goes for dungeons. I would much rather be doing those also, but until the class imbalance is fixed, spending an hour in the DPS queue just to run a single dungeon isn't efficient either. At this point my best option is to just wait and see if leveling is improved with the next update.

The Hunting log is nice, but on my Arcanist I've completed the 3rd log and I'm only level 23, its great supplementary EXP, but it's not enough to get you more than a level or two. I could see a monster grinding party working, if there was an area in the game that had good enough spawn rate to support it. As you said even then it probably wouldn't compare to FATEs in terms of EXP gain VS time spent.

8 strong monster grind parties are generally faster than fates if you get the composition and spot right. It's much less stop-start than fates too, be that good or bad depending on how you view it.

once you hit 15 run each dungeon until you're ready for the next. You'll learn how to play with people and you won't be a level 50 with level 20 greens.....

Then run fates, buy gray gear at 50 so you can get your AF..

I'm sure the relic questline is MORE than adequate enough to 'teach you how to play your class'..

I don't think you understand. I've done all the dungeons in the game on my White Mage. The issue with queuing as a DPS is that the DF takes so long. Forcing me to spend 2 to 3 straight days of playtime to level another class. Is not going to make me a better player than spending a quarter of that time. I don't know if you have a relic yet, but the relic questline is designed to teach you how to play your class in endgame, so even if I somehow manage to get to 50 without knowing my class, I'll have plenty of time to figure it out as I build the relic for that class.

Is there a highscore list who reached level 50 at the shortest time?

Well i level on dungeons mostly mixing with hunting logs and the quick fate between levels
Also the class/jobs quest help a lot
If i get bored i hop on my brd or mnk an do some ifrits (and get bullied because of the gear)

If you're looking for ACN for SCH purposes, you only have do deal with the wait until 30. After that, you queue as a Healer (assuming you queue as SCH).

Most people are missing my point. I'm asking that leveling be more fun when leveing a class to 50, after you are out of quests
I have no desire to come on for 2-3 hours a day to level through the same fates and Leves that I've already done. I understand the leveing a class through playing it is essental to knowing how to play it well, but is it too much to ask to have a good time while I do this? If I'm having a good time playing a game I could care less how long I spend playing it.

One more time for the sake of being clear:
As the game currently is, leveling any class after you are out of quests, is a boring grind that is no fun.

Maybe a zone for party play could be good.
A zone (a special open world zone, not instanced) with forced level-sync the moment you enter it and with enemies 10-15 levels above you with good exp.
Only survivable in a party.

I do my hunting log and then pull out my laptop and play Civ while waiting on dungeons. Oh, you said quickly. Have fun with that if your alt class is DD.

As a main DD... I level other classes while waiting for the queue to pop on the end game dungeons.

I just grind mobs and or fates depending on the area.... the best area for fates so far are: Quarrymill, Coerthas, Northern Thanalan

Now if I was a healer or tank i might also through the dungeons in there too.

Has anyone actually tested this and can provide some results/answers? Some questions I have are:

1) What is the exp/hr or exp/fight if say you're fighting a mob 8 levels higher than you?
1a) What's the optimal level range above party level to target?
2) Does everyone receive the same base exp (not base exp + %bonus)?
3) How close in levels does the group have to be? (Depending on the response, this could make it much more difficult to find a group)
4) Is a tank/healer required? (I could easily see this as something where a bunch of DDs just get together a rage through a zone because they kill so fast no tank is required a la FATEs)

killing monsters even several levels above you in the open world with an 8 man party is exteremely fast. Even though the xp per mob isn't very high, you can chain them forever if people are on the ball. I can see it being comprable to fates, at least in the mid levels.

This is why I skip all non-main story quests. I'm leveling my 'first' right now, and I want to be sure there's content enough out there to level the other 2 classes I take cross skills from.

Other than that though - I see no reason to level again on this character, so for healing I have another character - and am doing the same thing.

We can say "they need more quests", but do they? There are a LOT of them. My map is full of exclamation points waiting for me to click on them. There's a crazy amount of quests in this game so I get surprised at how some managed to run out of them.

They can't fix things for everyone's mistakes...

I've leveled by doing every dungeon, every guildhest, a lot of grand company leve's, a smidgeon few of other leve's, and keeping hunting logs current. FATES... I mostly do when they pass by me. I've hunted them down maybe just a few times when it looked interesting.

I'd say - do what you can to level up what you need for cross class skills. And then other classes you can play with in off-time, or wait for an expansion to add a whole new leveling path (if it does).

Speed of fate grinding is entirely dependent on how many people are out there grinding fates. Once most people get to 50 and focus completely on end game you are going to see fate grinding become one of the worst ways to level.

While I agree with you in theory, if this game grows the way we and SE hopes it does, there should always be a new influx of players and classes to level. Certainly the volume of new players will decrease over time, but there will be new classes that people will want to level up and with that, FATE grinding should remain relatively as efficient as it is now. However, if they also release a lot of new quests for all levels or allow quests to be repeated on alt classes then there is the possibility that the FATE girind will slow down.

Every MMO ends up with ghost towns in the lower level zones eventually.

Doing 1-50 fast isn't such a good idea right now, not much end-game, not till 2.1 ( November ish)

I think you should keep doing what you are doing to have a better appreciation of how easy tanks and healers have it with DF queues!!

On 4th DoW/DoM job going to 50 now..

Class quests/Hunting log/any convenient FATE that you bump into ... until 15.

Queue for DF dungeon. FATEs and the occasional class quest/hunting log while waiting on dungeon queue.

Get 50, get gears, move onto next class. Or raid. Or whatever.

Would be nice if we could add Leves or Guildhests to this list, but currently just not worthwhile for DoW/DoM.

There is. Setting up high skill chain parties in large monster populated areas will get you more exp than fates. Setting up the parties in areas that have big fates pop like courel king, or DD is even better. In these parties skip small fates and try to participate in close or big reward fates. Overall, with the right party set up, you can get more exp than fates.
