I find myself wondering if the PS3 version of this game has a graphic setting option. I know, because it's the PS3 it can/should handle all of the game's graphics, but I notice that during FATEs, I receive more lag than not, and I imagine it's because of so many flashy skills being process on the screen at once... But I may be wrong?

Ps3 only has a certain setting for Gfx and you can't change I don't think and it's not as high as they can go some pc's will run it with better settings

PS3 cpu is used globaly by military, I too have wondered about graphics etc. IMO no reason for such old skool stuff. Content is good thou, perhaps that was a priority and more will come later. PS3 ca do better thou.

PS3 cannot handle FFXIV full 1080p+ graphics, hence the reason it is set to 720p 30fps.
the only things you can do to combat fate lag is by
- turning off all effects for You, Your Party, and Everyone Else.
- removing the display of Names, HP bars, and flying txt
- turn off display of headgear and sheathed weapons
- and by playing in non crowded fates
if you have the money
- install a SSD into the PS3 to help loading times
That all you can pretty much do. with these settings you are basically removing the amount of stuff the ps3 has to load. I believe character models get first priority, so don't be surprised if you don't see any of the enemies/boss of the fate till they are dead.
I play on PS3 and PC... I prefer to game on my console, so I sacrifice the graphics and few bonuses the PC version gets for my preferences. -

In my case it was because having the whole screen filled with flashing flaming effects was blocking my view of where characters and mobs were and which of them was selected (since with default settings this game is too flashy for good visibility), but it should help with lag issues as well.Quote:

10-10-2013, 06:29 AMJonathan12uizdon't misunderstand me, i wasn't talking full 1080p games in general, just in the FFXIV instance... from what i gathered from all the beta forum post back when PS3 was introduced into the mix... square wanted the game to run as smoothly as possible on the ps3... so they canned the 1080p 60+fps because of the PS3's lack to render everything correctly at at time. I have a few 1080p games on my ps3, that died actually, but also remember that a lot of the 1080p cutscene goodness in most of those games are pre-rendered movie files... and not to mention some of the "1080p" games are just 720p upscaled.Quote:

I don't think anyone is saying that PS3 is god of all games, but it can be rather annoying to constantly be told that PCs are better and what you're using just isn't good enough. I'd be annoyed too if people were constantly shoving that own my throat.
Also, can I ask you something? Do you know how long it takes to render graphics like those seen in FFXIV or even movies like Disney and Pixar? A *very* long time, like days worth of rendering for even a few seconds. And you think they wouldn't save money by rendering at a 720? Really? Just because some games have and can be made in higher quality doesn't mean all companies are willing to dish out the time and money it would take to do so. And especially for an MMO that they will constantly be upgrading anyway. -

After my ps3 died playing this game... i've moved to pc and it can render out high level fates no problem with all effects on. This show the limits of the ps3 because with ALL effects off, the ps3 wouldn't load the enemies in the fates. -

10-11-2013, 10:09 PMHECThis has almost zero impact actually (I know as I've replaced my HDD which has died just the might before beta 4 stage with SSD) as PS3 can't benefit much from the increased speed of SSD due to it limited controller specs / speed. The only "benefit" is no noise from hard drive, and in some places it's a little bit faster but in ranges of 5 to max 10% so definitelly not worth the money invested - rather get 1 TB 2.5" new hard drive instead.Quote:

Hell I don't even understand defending the upcoming ones. They are essentially a over priced low end PC. ( by that I mean x86 code, and no strange proprietary or odd ball hardware IBM cpu or anything. 8 core cpu, 8gb of ram, and a gpu equivalent to a 7850/70)
For machines with JUST GAMING in mind, they fail pretty hard.
For machines that do JUST GAMING, you'd expect them to free up some awesome power. Instead you get a feeble, gimped experience ( this game comes to mind as a example... the Witcher 3 console version is a joke..Skyrim..many examples)
Also, agree with above. A SSD isn't gonna do much good. You're gonna put a Sata3 blazing fast SSD into a machine with a sata 1 controller. It will bottleneck it big time. I would call any reports of a huge difference a placebo effect, or just plain bad info. -

I have very few friends that would disconnect their gaming rig to lan party over someones house. A few laptop users will, but they always get crap from the desktop friends for using a "gaming" laptop instead of a tower. I didn't say PC and Console GAMERS weren't GAMERS. Once again miss understood... I said PC and CONSOLE gamers are NOT the same in terms of MINDSET... the proof can be seen in this thread, on this forums, and by personal experience from friends over the years.
I don't think one is better than the other... I deem them as just two different preferences... Like I said the game I (<once again keyword) PREFER to play are usually offered on the console. Some Final Fantasy series never released for PC, "Ghostbusters" the video game didn't, etc. Those are games I like to play. Yes many games have PC versions, but even so, I prefer to game them on a console. Resident evil for example... even FPS like BF3.
