Laziness or Problem? Only shouting rather than using /lfp and player search.

Only spam shouting LFP FATE/Dungeon versus using /lfp, the Player Search tool and correctly entering your Search Information.

I check every day to see if anyone uses these in game, I'm lucky to find between 1-3 people. I would assume it is because people either do not know about it, or they are just lazy. So they can complain about duty finder being slow, or having trouble finding fate parties. But who knows maybe there is an actual problem with it.

Never had this issue back in FFXI.

Anyone know any information on it?

I guess it all comes down to what people are used to - the "WoW" generation imprinted in millions of players the concept of "chat spamming", back even before a Dungeon Finder mechanic was even designed.

The concept of "flagging" ourself as LFG is kinda foreign to many, unfortunately. I personally find it more elegant and definitely less messy and confusing.

Think it is more due the fact it is tucked away, and outside of specific things a lot of content is solo able. Even in XI shouts for groups happened, just depended on what it was.

So when only things one really needs a group for is fate zerging, or doing dungeons, a good looking for group tool kinda falls by the wayside.

Where is this at? I heard they were going to put this in the game but I haven't seen it and I play pretty much everyday.

I would say its because people don't know about as I didn't though can't say that's everybody excuse but probably a good amount.

Wait, there's a lfp flag like in FFΧΙ!?! Ι seriously had no idea!

I use it to no results. It took me a while to find, its hidden. XI had the most simple, and best search function I have come across. Limited? Yes. Functional? Oh Gosh yes. It would be nice to see it used more, I have better things to do than /plantass in the most slaughtered zone ever.

For those that don't know...by memory, Social Menu, Right click your name...edit....should let you alter parameters

the search feature in this game is awesome, i dont think its lazyness but rather ignorance,must ppl just dont know it exists.

the efficient way to <>Looking for party<> is to /Sh and use the search

i always use it, but not many ppl flag up for LFP. i end up asking random ppl of my lvl if they are interested.

The looking for party function is hidden and there no clear visable sign like ffxi that shows people looking, and there search function is to far hidden also. Most modern day mmo do not even got that outdated function anymore. It just a waste of memory and storage and bandwith. Now if they can just get there duty finder to modern day usage be great. It just like in FFXI in the later years it faster to do a shouts in the right zones. Then to try and do the searches.

Perhaps a...LFG board would fix it ;)?

wait /lfg ... i didnt even know that was in this game o...o i saw all the people shouting and thought that was how we get into groups ^w^;

I don't know if you know this but they're going to add a board to find parties eventually. So just wait it out.

A green Diamond like icon appears beside your name. It is very visible, not enough people use it for people to just know what it means. Also the player search tab is in the Social Lists tab. It's in a very reasonable location. Not hidden at all.

This makes absolutely no sense by the way. Considering "Most modern day mmo..." are solo based and have no need for parties. /lfp and a player search tool should be native to any mmo. So you can find EXACTLY what you are looking for. Instead of "Hey I need a party" 20 times in shout by 20 different people. Cluttering chat to the fullest. If anything shout searching is an "outdated function", "It just a waste of" time and effort. "Now if they can just get there duty finder to" have a specific Players LFP button that brought up the player search; only showing players lfp also after queuing automatically setting you to lfp. Rather than just queuing up and looking for players, so you can have both options of finding party members right in front of your face. So no one can be ignorant to the fact of the options to find parties, thus solving a lot of problems almost effortlessly.

They have an lfg board already. It's Player Search. You use the search option icon that represents players looking for group. It pulls up 200 names at a time in a "Board" or list. Noone uses it though. Thanks to mmo's not adopting FFXI's lfg board (Not saying it was the 1st ever, it was the first I came across.).

They said somewhere they're going to make LFP more useful.

The fact that almost everyone uses /shout is kind of a remnant from 1.0, where the player search was so awful it was completely useless.

I agree on the first part, but not on the last. The other system wasn't a player search, it was a party offer system. The only difference was that you, the player, had to become active and look for a party for the content you wanted to do. The leader just set the party composition (e.g. x tanks, y dps, z healers) and you could join if you fit the criteria.

The player search they added later, and what we have now, is the other way around, the leader has to actively search for any people willing to join. The Japanese were using the recruiting function all the time, and that's what the devs said they would bring back to 2.0 later on. Rest of the world ignored it out of ignorance - just like the player search system.

Actually, the amount of people using it now is even less now than it was in 1.0

I search, get the first 200 people on the list that meet my criteria. Great. Does this person want FATE? Do they want Praetorium? AK? Primals?
There is no separation for what the player is looking for party for, and it's hardly reasonable to expect the party leader to read every search comment and send a tell to every player that is LFP.
This is why shouting is currently the most efficient way to form a group. Until we have a way for people to flag themselves as searching for single (or multiple) forms of content, the LFP feature is useless.

u can add a comment in your search

LFP AK / CASTRUM / TITAN HM for example

it works like FFXI or other old LFG :P

and if u are looking for a lvl 50 TANK , i guess only 3-5 will be LFP at any given time , and reading 5 search comments is hard?

the LFP in FFXIV it works but ppl prefer to shout , because its instant message to the whole zone , u dont need to navigate menus....

There are hundreds of people on every server all looking for parties for different things, sifting through every search comment to find out what people want is going to take an awful lot of time. You cannot filter by comment. You cannot filter by "What content a person wants". These are the big issues and why people shout.

These are the exact parts where you prove your ignorance for:
1. When searching for players, you can pick exactly what you are looking for in terms of Online status, Class/Job, Level, Location, and Language. This not only cuts the list of players, but also gives you massive control over what you are looking for. Hell you can even look for party leaders under Online Status, and see what they're doing or wanting to do. It's no where nearly as random and unorganized as you believe it to be.
2. So seeing hundreds of people spamming at any given time is more efficient than using an organized search function and reading through a few comments?
3. So it's more reasonable to expect the party leader to search through or wait for spam in order to find a player than look at an organized list of what type of player they are looking for? Interesting.
4. The party leader doesn't send a tell to a person LFP....they invite.

Once again ty for proving that it's ignorance that keeps people from using this and relying on spamming every few secs or mins. For if you had any real idea about the search tool, you wouldn't have said anything you just have said on this post.

Why would I use the player search tool over duty finder for dungeons and primals?

The only thing I can think of is to group with people on the same server which is good but not worth extra time personally. Duty finder is faster and why I don't use the player search tool.

That's what the recruiting system people were ignoring in 1.0 was for, actually. Except as I said above, the leader just put up a party recruitment entry for a specific content and people could just join if they met the criteria. It's actually very convenient, so let's hope they implement it soon and people actually use it

Some content is not in the duty finder though. Coil, FATEs (the fact it was supposed to be party-less aside), Chimera, Hydra, did I miss something else?

Go to your social tab (O) and I believe the tab is called "search" or "Player search" and you can see who is LFG. To set yourself as LFG, open your Social tab again, select yourself, and right click, and edit looking for group options.

I didn't even know this existed and from what I'm reading I wasn't the only one. For some reason these types of systems don't get used by players even if they are widely known. On paper these flag and search functions are superior to both automated group finders and chat spamming but in practice it rarely works out that way. It is a matter of gaming culture, not laziness.

People like to blame the "WoW generation" for everything and it might even be true in this case since these systems did get used more often in the pre-WoW era. However blaming the players is never constructive because you can't change the masses.

Many players don't know about it.

Players can fill a group literally in seconds in Mor Dhona by asking in /sh for what they are looking for, especially for speed runs.

I don't see what the big deal is, but a few of you seem pretty upset about it. I doubt /sh is going to go away when the new LFP system is implemented anyway. They'll both be used as long as it doesn't suck, and if it does, it'll never be used ♥

I don't usually FATE and haven't been past Ifrit or Wanderer's Palace. But it's good to know I can use this for Chimera or Hydra if I want to run it fast and my FC members are doing something else. I have doubts this would be really effective with Coil's convoluted lock out system.

From what I gathered, it's the leader who is checked for which turn to load, so I don't see why it would matter. You probably just can't be brought into coil if you don't have access to it at all.

I haven't been to coil obviously. But yes, the leader determines what turn to load. So if the leader is on turn 3 and everyone else in the party is on turn 1, then the party can proceed. However, if that party starts turn 3, everyone that hasn't made it to turn 3 for the week can't go back and do turns 1 and 2 even though they didn't complete them themselves. The reverse of this cannot work. If the leader is on turn 1 and everyone else in the party is on turn 3, the party can't even do turn 1. This system makes sense so that you allow players no more than one coil completion per week. However, that only works well with a static group where you can down each turn together. With player search, I'm sure you can get some coil play in very easily. But getting into the exact coil turn you are on will be more difficult because of the way coil's lockout system.

The problem with it is that you have to manually check people's status. It doesnt show a description in the search and you cant just search the keywords. For example, if I am looking for people for hydra and you put "/lfp looking for hydra party", I cant just search for "hydra" and find all the people that want to join up. It's more tedious honestly
