Cap shards/crystals to stacks of 99 in Auction House.

Ok everytime I go to auction I see 3-4 people with 10000+ shards for sale on auction house. So I ask myself: would any legit player have 5 2500+ stacks of shards on the market at one time?

At a cap of 99 per auction stack a person could still potentially put up 3960 shards through both their retainers (As opposed to the 10-20k many of these botters are putting up at a time). So it shouldn't slow down legit players all that much, but put a much needed throttle on the profit rate of the botters.

For those that think 99 is too low can we at least agree that putting up stacks of 2500-3000 or whatever the current max is too high?

its not too high, there have been times where i have been in need of 5k shards and have bought those. What there IS a need for, is bans on all the rmt, hackers etc.

No. This doesn't stop any RMT. All this does is hurt players who wish to purchase large amounts of shards at once. I sometimes purchase multiple thousands at a time depending on the price. I sometimes farm over a thousand at a time. It's very easy as a max lv gatherer. Let's all stop trying to ban things and control each other. How are shards being up there in large quantities personally hurting you?

If you don't want to sell that many, split the stack and sell however many you want to sell. There's no need for a limit.

And do you honestly think those 2500 stacks are from legitimate players? Especially when its one person putting up 3-4 sets of them for one element alone?

How about instead of FORCING us to buy a full stack of whatever allow us to buy as many as we need. I don't want to buy 2000 shards for 26k when I only need 400. I shouldn't have to relist it. That's a bad system.

You're going to use those crystals eventually. If you're buying them, you may as well buy a lot. you'll end up paying a lot more if you just want to buy 5 here, 10 there.

Allowing people to buy any amount they want from large stacks would ruin bulk discounts and drive the price of items into the ground.

Person A: selling a stack of 99 ingots for 150 gil a piece
Person B: selling individual ingots at 275 gil

Both people have a viable strategy with this system because they are targeting different buyers. If you allow people to buy 1 ingot at a time from that 99 stack nobody would ever buy ANYTHING except the absolute cheapest stack up.

This means as a seller you have to babysit your items and continuously undercut people if you want any hope of selling. Everyone would immediately begin a race to the bottom.

It is a player size problem, not an SE one, I personally sell them in stacks of 500 or 1k, depending.

I have about 1k of every shard element .. and im not even a Gatherer.
I get them whenever i kill an Elemental mob. As a Gatherer, with the ability to choose to get a minimum of 4 shards per node (im speaking as a sub 10 Miner) And the ability to clear many nodes per hour ... Why in the hell would i NOT be able to get 10k to sell in a reasonable hurry?

I would only need to mine 2500 nodes, Even if I'm mining at a rate of 1 node per 20 seconds, Thats 12 shards per minute. Someone better at maths could give me the exact numbers but my napkin math says 13 hours of gathering could give you 10k shards to sell.
Not counting Leves, or possible bonuses for levels or from gear stats. Or even from higher than lvl 5 nodes.
You seem to not understand that many people LOVE to gather, and do it for all the hours they play. I get to play for about 9 hours a day thanks to the weird times i work, and due to those hours, i don't have any friends online for most of those hours i play. If i chose to gather, i could do what you're complaining about every second day.

Also remember that we're a month into 2.0, I personally didn't realize i could pull stacks and sell them in the MBs until last week. Maybe what you're seeing is gatherers who farmed up a whole ton for leveling a crafter, then realized they didn't need that much, and that it was worth a lot of Gil to others.

I would sooner see being able to by XX amount when in stacks.

Except I use one of my retainers to undercut person A to 100 gil a piece with 20 slots used. Then I use my other retainer to undercut person B to 175 gil a piece with 20 slots used.
Then person C comes along and undercuts my undercut of person A to 90 gil a piece with 20 slots used. Then someone undercuts my undercut of person B to 125 gil a piece with 20 slots used.

Maybe then you buy up the market and relist but now there is an established history at my new price so people are unlikely to buy at your price.

That's what is actually happening in game.

This already happens every single night with fleece. Lol.

I've never seen crystals in stacks of 9999.

There's two reasons: You can only carry 9999 each on your person, on each retainer, and in the company chest if you have one. If you have more than zero, you need to offload them into a storage space in order to purchase the stack, since 9999 is a hard maximum- you can't have more than one "stack." at a time.
The other reason: It takes waaaaaay too long to collect that many.

I can gather about 500 shards per hour so yes, they can be easily sold by legit players.
