HQ Double Star Greens VS DL...

I know I'm probably quite late in bringing this up so I apologize in advance but I just need some clarification on crafted gear...
I was looking at DL armor today and opened up my crafting menu to compare the DL to the 2 Star Greens. I'm confused because, even at HQ, the 2 Stars don't seem to come even close and I'd kept hearing that they did or that 2 Star Greens were even better (depending on who I talked to or what I read). Even melded using both slots as well as forbidden melding the DL is still better, and don't even get me started on the cost prohibitive nature of materia or the fact that DL gloves are cheaper then crafting them due to potash cost.
I canceled my auto renewal today, the crafting system was the only reason I've played as much as I have. I'm sure I'll resub, probably sooner then later knowing me lol :D. I'm just kind of at a dead end with the crafting and was hoping maybe I'm overlooking something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HQ 2-star equipment is pretty much equal to darklight. With melds, it can easily exceed it.

I don't doubt some equipment falls into your example, but without specifics it's hard to provide a counter-argument. I'm quite sure that melded HQ 2-star trumps darklight in most cases.

I guess I must have misread something or maybe the tooltip wasn't showing the info correctly. I was looking at the healers version of DL (can't remember the name) and then went to the Gridanian market board to look at the stats for the HQ Vayana healers robes. I found an HQ 2-star Vayana robe fully melded with 5 materia and it wasn't as good as the DL. I'll have to log in and check again. Thanks very much for your time. :)

HQ Vanya Robe of Healing (using 3x forbidden melds...the pain must have been exquisite lol ;) :

M. Defense 105
Vit +20
Mind +20
Det +18
Spell Speed +19
Crit +27
Piety +9

And it can be yours for only 4,000,000 Gill.
I suppose it could be argued that it's the crit on this robe that makes it so awesome, I think it looks amazing actually but with the lower stats with things like Vit, Mind, and Piety over the spread of an entire set...well that's a really big difference isn't it?

Cowl covers both head and body even says on the tooltip you can not equip head gear. and vanya robe is just a body piece. Add together the stats of the robe and hat, with melds then compare that to darklight cowl.

In almost ALL cases the HQ 2 star gear is superior to the darklight gear. If only for the fact that it is very flexible in the things you do can with it. But statwise it is also superior, even with tier 3 materia. Unfortunately for most people not a crafter or a gilbuyer, its prohibitive to make a whole set.

And utterly pointless as once we start getting Bahamut gear or other future updated stuff, it'll be outclassed and you'll have wasted all that time and gil for nothing.

Bad design is bad. This is the kind of gear they made back in Zilart, and AFAIK we're not at the final level cap yet so it doesn't make sense to be adding sidegrades just yet. In fact I'm pretty sure YP said we'd see the 1st level cap increase before the expansion.

Utterly pointless? Lol. After having 12m from maxing crafts 1st, selling 2 stars and various crafting items i started to level pugilist. I had better gear when i hit level 50 than 99% of the server without ever setting foot in a level 50 dungeon. Not to mention it is superior gear. Go on 'head and try to do coil in your darklight.. lemme know how that works for ya. (lolz @ 2.5k hp casters)

Who has 2.5k HP in Darklight? Seems all you know is how to run a crafting bot and not much about actual gameplay.

Oh and people are doing Coil in Darklight, everyday... soo yeah - Utterly pointless.

Um... as a WHM in Coil Turn 4, I have Full darklight, relic +1, AF+1 boots, and my accesories are purely AK greens. Honestly, nothing special. Oh, I had 4K HP in full darklight without relic weapon, when I was doing titan... and it's actually been working very well so far tyvm.

That aside, the HQ two star synths, given forbidden materia melding, are by far superior to darklight gear. Especially the accessories.

This. You gotta fail at math if you cant count the base stats plus the meld bonuses and see it exceeds DL by far.

The ☆☆ Equipment is useless, unless you have lot of gil and don't want to farm dungeons for your DL gear. The crafted gear costs (at least) 1125 Tomes, which is more than 2 DL pieces of gear combined (~950 Tomes). The "better" stats can be ignored, as Spell Speed and Critical Hit Rate stats are currently neglectable. (I wear exclusively Spell Speed gear and didn't even reach 10% faster cast time yet).

Vanya Robes are the only ones that are good, because you can wear the i90 head piece with it. Don't know about Darksteel Armor and Legs.

The heavy darksteel body/head, legs/feet and hands cost roughly the same ammount of tomes as the heavy darklight equivalent.
So, the better tanking gear would be the HQ crafted one for 3375 tomestones compared to 3135 for heavy darklight?

HQ Heavy Darksreel is awesome Simply hitting that 450 accurate cap along with the rosegold jewelry where u can get a ton of vit and socket it with str material to raise defence

There will be a level cap increase, probably within the game's 1st year according to YP in an earlier live letter. Guess what that means? All those millions you blew on the double star, melded HQ - POOF! Wasted. The Bahamut gear is supposed to be even stronger as well (again all according to YP in the live letters) so.... why waste all the gil?

lol, most people who have HQ double-star stuff aren't spending much gil at all; they can either make it themselves, or they know someone who can. Few people are "spending millions", and the people who are melding their gear are actually using it right now to complete content today. I'd hardly call that a waste of money.

Considering I am wearing ilv 90 earrings from coil and am on turn 4 im pretty sure I know how the gameplay works. Nice try though. Maybe 2.5k was an exaggeration but I easily outstat/hp people in "ilv equivalent" darklight gear with my crafted set.

Anyone with half a brain can tell that the crafted gear is superior and if you had a set of it you'd be better off than if you didn't currently. Is it worth the expense? I don't know that's for you to decide. I had my gear crafted and melded before I ever stepped foot in CM.

Once the crystal tower comes out though, unless they release a new tier of crafted it will more than likely become obsolete.

Pretty sure it's more then an exaggeration. You are plain wrong in terms of DL HP. Even people in AF have more then 2.5k HP. Get away from the synthesis and get a clue please. People do Coil in DL just fine.

One *TINY* little thing:
Those items require rare materials (Peacock Ore, etc.) These can only be bought with tomes (or from the market by someone who bought it with tomes).
Therefore either one is paying gil for it (off the market), or one is buying it with tomes and using it (as opposed to selling it on the market in return for gil). In the case of the later, it is a loss of potential profit, and therefore can count as an expenditure of gil equivalent.

So, yes, in essence they are spending millions.

On the other hand, if they want to, that is of course their choice ^^. And some people (especially those who focus on only one/two jobs) may have excess tomes and do not desire or need gil.

20/30 min speed runs in either CM or AK. So in about 5 hrs you have a pretty nice piece a gear if you leveled or know someone who has crafting skills. Very cheap and not millions like most of you say.Think most of the complaints I have heard are from people that just look at the market place for all there goods.Nothing wrong with that i made millions off of you but please stop whining.

A question from me, how to the HQ double star greens compare to AF2/Allagan pieces then?

Edit: Ok how about we do it this way. Someone with a monk in full darklight go ahead and post your stat window. ONLY darklight gear + Relic and compare it to Gryphonskin. No food buffs or group buff. The results are similar for the other jobs too.

With a few exceptions, the AF2/Allagan gear will be superior to the HQ double-star stuff, simply due to the iLvl difference (90 vs 70).

Which is true for amor pieces, Gryphon/Astral pieces might just win because you can meld 10 VIT on each of them (for Coil).

This.. Darklight accesories have no vitality. thats 50 vitality you miss out on by using Darklight instead of crafted. On top of that you can put more stats in it thatn darklight even has.. Fully buffed in coil my monk has around 4.6k hp. which is ~1k more than most DDs. That 1k HP is often the difference between life and death, and when you're dead you do 0 damage.

the only use for a higher HP pool in coil is so you don't come come close to being one shot when you mess up (like a bad) and get hit by caduceus tail whip/ads laser

for everything else, more HP doesn't make a difference. that full set of gear might look shiny, but realistically it is very little DPS improvement over darklight, especially when you consider that the most difficult DPS check currently, turn 4, can be cleared by people in AK gear.

Its also useful when you are right up next to knight and or soldier in turn 4 getting cleaved (Not avoidable). It's useful if you're a mage and AOEing on turn 4 and taking massive damage. It's useful as a tank at all times. It's useful as you said if you do mess up and get hit by something. While I am not there yet in my group (Turn 5 has been down since we cleared 4) other groups in my FC have been gearing more and more accessories for HP on Twintania. Arguing that an extra 500-1k HP is not good is kind of ridiculous. Also, every little DPS improvement helps. Im sure if your raid was wearing full crafted/Allagan instead of Darklight/allagan it would go much smoother and be much more forgiving if mistakes were made.

There is no argument that it CAN be done in dark light gear. The argument is whether or not HQ crafted gear is superior, and it is.
