Unique Limit Breaks Needed

Every class should have a unique limit break that corresponds with their class.

Bards currently just spit out Healing Wind and there's nothing unique about the limit break for this slot. During the character creation, the intro movie, when we first see the Masked Man; we do this powerful aimed shot at him - why isn't this our limit break? We need a damage limit break - or if not damage - perhaps something that corresponds with being a Bard. Perhaps Bard's limit break would buff the whole party for a certain duration.

SMN should also have a limit break associated with Summoning something to deal some damage. What was fun about VII was using summons and a big primal appeared to deliver a powerful blow to the enemy.

Right now, it feels like this system was an after thought; and limit breaks don't feel very unique.

I pretty much agree with this, not to mention the single target limit break makes no fucking sense, why would a Dragoon use Braver, Blade Dance or Final heaven?

Least it makes more sense than a pugilist doing it!

But I agree that this would be a nice to have, though I would prioritise other issues first like the server side handling delays or some class QoL changes.

Do you mean if I trigger the LB as a MNK it should do a different move than if I triggered it as a DRG?

Personally I think there should be 2 for each class. A generic one and a class specific one. The class specifics are only level 3 and you can still trigger your generic lvl 3 if you wish.

BLM - Comet, Chainspell (Gives you 0 cast time on all spells)
DRG - Generic DPS, Hyperjump?! (Does several jumps one after another)
BRD - Normal Heal one as is now, Twelve Arrows (does a 12 fold attack for each god split among all targets in the area. If 1 target they take all 12 hits).
MNK - Generic DPS, Aligned Chakra (Think 100 fists for the party. Everyone gets a 0gcd for a set time and the party goes wild!)
WHM - Generic heals, Pacafism (You and any other caster class are granted 1 enmity for the duration and cannot generate enmity)
SMN - Attack dependent on which Egi you have out, Aetherfont (Everyone unlimited MP?)
SCH - Heals, Friends of faeries (A number of faires turn up for each party member there and everyone has their own personal healer for the duration)
WAR - Basic Defence, Bloodsport (All damage done heals for 200% and you cannot be KO'd even if you hit 0hp. if you are at 0 when it finishes then you die)
PLD - Basic Defence, Valiant (Your block rate increases to 80% and your block ammount doubles. Each succeful block has a chance to either stun, blind or Dot the enemy, these can stack.)

This is one of the largest reasons I feel Limit Breaks were an afterthought. Yoshi-P can stand by his desire to only have three Limit Breaks if he wants, but at least give them their own friggen animation.

Heck, maybe SMNs might at least get a slight nod to their past by giving them a summon limit break instead of a meteor. It doesn't even have to be a primal if we're sticking to the lore, but something big and grand. Hell, the SMN story already shows larger egis than you control.

Some parts of this game feel rushed, and this is one of them.

This is the main reason why I think Bards were dealt with the healing LB and not because of some master design philosophy. It makes absolutely no sense for them to slash at a boss with a sword from 20 yalms away and it definitely doesn't make sense for them to take out a staff and summon a comet lol. So what's left over? A DPS class that has 1 cooldown self heal and absolutely no resurrection capabilities with a freaking healing LB that can do all of those to everyone. lol.

This is what I was thinking when I first used a LB as monk. Just why am I using a sword anyway? LB level 3 for Monks is great, it feels right, as does whm and pld, but not the other classes.

I think it is too much work (aka, too hard to balance) if the limit breaks were all entirely different, as in had different effects.

I like the idea of how it is now, but I agree they should have different effects based on class.

Like...

Monk - Tifa's limit breaks (2, then 4, then all 7 punches)
Lancer - Jump, Juump (just kidding, hyper jump), JUUUUMMMMMP (lol, i mean dragon dive)
BLM - current ones are fine, skyshard -> meteor shower -> METEOR
Summoner - Because summoning primals/bahamut is probably storyline breaking, lets go with unused summons. Choco/Mog (teehee) -> Kjata (tetra element!) -> Alexander (judgement!)
White Mage - current ones fine, Healing Wind -> Breath of the Earth -> Great Gospel
Scholar - lets use summoning animations, clear tranquil (just the animation) -> Carbunkle (this fits pretty damn well) -> phoenix
Bard - songlike animations, healing wind -> pulse of life -> siren summon (but with the bard instead of siren).

Tanks -> no clue.

Firstly, bards definitely do NOT need a damage dealing LB. They are overpowered DPS as is. However, I do agree that the LB system is quite limited and does appear to be an afterthought. It would be nice to see more variety in the LBs, but balance has to take precedence, and right now several jobs are completely out of balance.

Bards get a healing LB because, when you need to have it used, the healers are probably getting their ass kicked by how much healing they have to put out. The bards are there to alleviate some of the weight from the healer's shoulders. Also, having a "non-healing" class have a healing limit break lets you rez healers if they both happen to die to a certain mechanics, without having to wipe necessairly.

Also swords or comets doesn't make sense for bards.

Bards = lift spirits of the party, when they introduce another job for archers, along the lines of sniper, then you'll get your single tgt LB

I would like to see it go beyond a visual animation

Monk (dps): does x damage, increasing the damage the mob takes by y for the next z seconds
dragoon (burst): huge mega jump that does pretty much the damage of the LBs now
white mage (heals): same as healing LBs now, revive on 3
scholar (heal + shield): heals 25-40% as much as white mages, provides a bubble for 30-50%, revive on 3
warrior (soak tank): Increases the parties hp by xx%, damaging abilities heal the caster xx%
paladin (defensive tank): lowers the damage the party takes by xx% (probably a bubble as well)
summoner (DoT class): Meteor storm type, doing damage to a large area over time (more damage total than blackmage)
black mage (burst AoE): large meteor doing large amount of burst damage to the target area

I'd also be all for each class having its own limit break bar even independent to them, however if, say, 2 DPS did their LB at the same time it would combine into an effect more powerful than the sum of its parts, or a tank and healer and so on.

I think what most people want is for them to just be graphically different from each other. They can remain functionally the same for the sake of balance, (don't want certain classes getting picked just because their limit break does something better) just make it where each class has a different looking attack. When I first saw Omnislash on a Dragoon it was so wrong...

I think BRD lb makes a lot of sense and is an intentional balance question. Bards have great sustain dps and range, the price for the range is the loss of single target lb (now this probably isn't an adequate price to pay for their range and dps, but its something). Not to mention, it is really powerful and does support the theme of the class to have a support healing lb to call on rather than having the healers stop to use it.

I'm one of the few bards who actually likes our lb. The time it takes to cast is way time long IMO to be "down" a healer to cast.

I am also probably in the minority in the fact that I hate the idea of limits breaks.

Why is everyone saying DRG's should get a mega jump for LB?

Seriously? give me bracelet attacks for my DRG Limit breaks

I quite like the Braver animation for DRG.

But yes, it looks odd coming from a MNK.

Also I feel as though the PLD limit is less climactic then the others.

Might be something they change down the line with new jobs?

Ideally every Job would have a unique LB that was useful...I mean that is not too much to ask is it?

I think the bigger issue here is just simply how worthless the healing and tank limits are.

The heal limit is just a single party heal... It's useless because it has no extra healing over time, no added protection, just a single heal that's about as effective as a Medica (but takes longer). In any real fight, this becomes extremely worthless as bosses have a tendency to 1-2 hit kill everyone other than the tank. Limit appears to do the same exact thing regardless of how many limit bars are charged making it even more worthless.

The tank limit is just a very short duration protection... Aside from extremely rare cases where a boss does a large full field AoE (like titan) the duration on this protection is just simply not long enough to be a significant factor in living through the fight. As a trade-off, it also has to be timed perfectly and usually by the very character who was near the boss and would be taking the greatest hit.

Compared to the DPS limit... Which usually knocks about 1/6-1/10 of the boss's life off at 2 bars, completely kills any adds in the area, and generally makes most of those Damage output tests (Ifrit's nails, Titan's heart, ect) more trivial and thus making a mechanic based wipe much less likely.


I don't care for class unique limits (since this leads to people picking party classes solely for what limit can be done), but rather would like to see the tank and healing limits actually become useful.

BRD - Nameless Song - Support LB maybe a full round of buffs - Group regen/ Magicka Barrier/Attack Power/Magic Power Buff
MNK - Suplex. (JK Final Heaven is suitable)

WHM - Full heal / raise (lvl3 No delayed animation, no threat, resets Tanks threat to 100% of what they were tanking before death).
SMN - Greater Summon - Summons a full size of whatever Egi you have for 1 minute.
SCH - - Increases Move speed, Restores MP (% based), restores HP (% based), Cuts Casting time and Skill animation time by 50% for all group members for 15-20 seconds. , Creates Magicka barriers for all party members based on currect Hp as of use (lower Hp = greater shield)
WAR - Slaughtering Sacrifice - Shields the warrior with a shield equal to 8x his Max HP for 1 minute, every strike against the shield inflicts a stack of Bleed DoT on the attacker (up to 10 stacks) Bleed increases all Dmg taken by 1% per stack and increases the warriors Threat each time the target takes dmg with bleed from any source (Threat transfered to warrior).
PLD - Fine as is atm.
