Crafters making money off other crafters

Ok. so many players are worried about there gil accumulation and many say "hey lvl up a gathering/crafting job" which right now is pretty much the only way to make any gil.

The only issue I see is the money is just being shuffled around from crafter to crafter or gatherer to crafter. Hardly any items go from crafter > DOM/DOW. the only thing needed from them is materia socketing and well thats pretty much it (other than relic weapons)

It is very early in the game right now but already people can notice the market going down down down in prices as lot of people lvl crafting/gathering. The more ppl who lvl it the less things will be worth. Whats to happen when things are so dirt cheap that not even crafters/gatherers can make money.

SE needs to add items that end game raiders must buy or want to have. All other mmos have potions and food being things people NEED for endgame, also i gear that is needed or supplement items be for raiding is possible. Weapons that can be alittle worse than top tier raiding thus still making people raid for BIS.


I really hope something changes fast or things might just get worse.

STEP 1:
Buy/craft/obtain a trash set of gear and make a second Armory preset for it.

STEP 2:
Run dungeons and swap out to your trash set for trash mobs then swap into your awesome set for bosses.

STEP 3:
Complete spiritbond on trash gear and convert to Materia which is currently selling for 10's of thousands of gil each.

Rinse and repeat.


... Granted, i have also noted that crafters are basically useless for battle job sales. I won't go near crafting the Militia sets because no one buys em. i'm just riding out the wave personally.
But if you want to earn gil without crafting or gathering, i promise, spiritbonding is how it's done.

ALC lv. 42 here. It's pretty bad already. I don't understand peoples pricing methods. Alot of the items I see on the MB are cheaper than the ingredients that make it by a long shot. I don't have a gathering class that higher either to farm my own mats. :(

It's kinda funny, eh? Yeah, everyone who muttered and groaned at anyone who complained about gil-issues always would boast their fortune and how it's fine.
Thing is, it's not. Doesn't matter if some of us have money (I do currently) it's not a healthy or sustainable economy. The real issue is exactly what you said, none of our crafts are useful to ANYONE except OTHER CRAFTERS! It's pretty stupid. You spend money to buy good crafting gear, or crafting mats.. which is made by other crafters or gatherers. There's really nothing being sold to DoW or DoM except melds (which is pretty sad if that's our BEST income method) and the base relic weapon items themselves - which are often undercut to the point they're no longer profitable and\or in more abundance than there is a demand for them anyway..

Consumable items like food and potions aren't reliable sales, since most players skip out on food (except again.. crafters) and potions have mostly negligible effects aside from HP/MP ones. We're honestly just throwing money at each other just leveling our crafts and\or gearing them. Once we hit 50 and have our gear done.. there's nothing left to make us money (outside of price gouging the crafters below us..) except melds and the hope someone wants to buy a relic base. (And pray to the twelve that doesn't get undercut into the ground while waiting..)

So basically we either succumb to a pyramid scheme where the first to the top get richer off those on the bottom, until new crafters either dry up or go dead broke trying.. or we just rely on melds for money. Neither option is good.

This is a HUGE problem I have as well. I've seen mats get undercut into the ground so badly that they hit 1 gil.. you may as well just toss the shit at an NPC if you're going to do that. A ton of the nicer things we can make have the same issue, the prices keep being undercut to the point it's not profitable anymore. A few exceptions aside, it's just completely terrible. While it IS possible to make a profit (I have) the entirety of it has come from selling to OTHER crafters.. why are we sustaining each other? What's the POINT of a craft if we're buying each other out like this? We're just spinning a big wheel, and while we can make a nice nestegg this way, it's entirely at the expense of lower level crafters.. Meanwhile we contribute virtually nothing to DoW and DoM..

Although i've spent my time primarily on Weaver and Leather-worker, i can offer my own insights on this.
Take the LvL55 Carpenter's Gloves for example:

NQ Hippogryph Leather = 600gil
NQ Raptor Sinew = 200gil (?)
NQ Rose Gold Nugget = 2000gil
Total Price = about 3000gil

For anyone who only has Leather-worker leveled, you can HQ those gloves maybe 5-10% of the time if you're lucky, else you'll need to buy the HQ ingredients for something like 25Kgil just to HQ them 2/3rds of the time. Therefore, you really need to be cutting that down a bit by farming, or selling your HQ results for 50K+.

HOWEVER, by using cross class abilities, it is possible to HQ from NQ almost 100% of the time, thus selling those gloves for 20K is still a profit of 17K.
Here's my every time combo. ;) I promise you it's gold.

Comfort Zone - Alc 50
Inner Quiet - Leather 11
Ingenuity II - Blacksmith 50
Careful Synthesis II - Weaver 50
(If your Crafting is too low, you'll need to use this twice. Make sure that however much progress you make at this stage using it, that number is enough to finish it in one more move and then move on to the next stage)

(During these 4 steps take any available opportunity to cast)
Tricks of the Trade - Alc 15

i think its more that the main story line gives you gear for every level you could need and for a good amount of gear the difference between HQ and LQ isn't that big.

Completely true, but this is exactly the issue. We make all our big money off other crafters. Which means the money is really just shuffling between crafters. Which isn't.. good. I mean hell, even ignoring the problem of money just moving between crafters.. it's pretty depressing that none of the crafts contribute anything to any of the DoW and DoM classes except by offering melds. We just.. don't have anything exciting.

There are still many players out there that don't want to do crafting as it bores them.

The bigger issue isn't that people are buying less because more people are doing crafting/gathering, it's because people spend ALL their gil buying stupid stuff. People will drop 20k gil on stupid stuff, then have no cash left to do anything with, leading them to not buy anything. I myself undercut the market all the time, because I know things at lower prices are more likely to get bought up, but that doesn't stop people from spend all of their gil.

I think the real problem is that people expect to get rich in this game, from doing quests, which causes them to be much more prone to spending all their gil early on(leading them to be disappointed later on when they have no gil still).

The answer is simple... fates and quest rewards. Gear means almost nothing if you can be part of zerg and jump up 10-15 levels without needing to upgrade a single piece of gear.

Honestly that's fine, it's how it should be. Problem is we're not making items for those people that get bored crafting, they get all their junk from quests, npc's, or the odd dungeon here and there. We don't make anything they need, we don't even make anything they want.

General undercutting sucks, and yeah I know very well why it keeps happening. Truth is (as said) I've made plenty of gil in spite of it. But my profits have always come either from leves (of all things..) or from selling things to other crafters. This just seems like poor design.

Yeah.. but it's more than that even. The main storyline and class quests alone hand out pretty much all the gear you need 1-50 on your first class. Other quests fill out the gear you need on the rest.. Dungeons sometimes give you lucky drops too from chests. Gear literally rains down on peoples heads, there's no need for crafters.
