Legacy Markets: Total Disaster Area- Call FEMA

Starting about 2 days ago prices have been in complete free fall on Hyperion. You can check what looks like a stable market in the morning selling at 5k, and by the afternoon the average is 1.2k

People do not get that when someone puts up 99 of an item at a slightly lower price that's not the new going rate for 1 of that item....

So what happens is someone puts up a large stack, little lower price, people see the lower price, start selling single items at that price, people adjust and so on and so on until the market is ruined.

It started at the top with Star items, and is now moving right down the chain.


There's just too much crap on the Markets. It's too easy to get gear. I keep hearing people say: Why do I need to craft or buy anything?

Exactly Yoshi; why do they? just gotta make it to AF and GTG.


End Result: badly equipped players at endgame, not buying off AH, stressing the hell out of players using DF and killing runs for people.

putting all my hope into the iLvl requirements... I hope they're at least 55 for endgame.

The problem is that everything is too easy. Crafting is easy, content is easy, everyone has everything 2 weeks after release. People walking with relics +1, full gear HQ, darklight gear, Allagan gear, people are decked out on all crafts/gatherer jobs.
That is the problem.

All the items dropped from raids are worthless because they drop like rain, everything is easily obtainable, hence everyone has everything and prices go down. Game is too easy.

Because the game is no fun if you don't have millions of Gil

No, the game is no fun when you spend hours gathering/crafting, only to realize two days later the market you worked for no longer exists.


And yes, everything is just given to you.

I was shocked at 45 how the NPC basically was like "oh here, have 4 of the best pieces of gear that will take you 45-50 <hit confirm button>"
At least we had some fights that were decently challenging in 1.0 for AF.. this AF is wayyy better and just handed to each player.. very sad really.

A big part of it on Hyperion is the world is overpopulated (moreso than the others). Most other worlds have been unlocked to character creation for at least short periods of time, but Hyperion? Never. There's too big a supply of everything and that's why prices are getting so low.

Funny how people thought everyone was going to be price gouging because of the redenomination but my how short-lived that was.

Another part of it is people being stupid. Some things are vendor trash and simply shouldn't be put up on the markets much. I've even seen some people selling items on the market for less than their value to an NPC vendor. That had me scratching my head. Not only are you asking for less than the NPC, but you're paying a fee too.

I agree that gear is far too easy to obtain just from quests and lvling. There's no point on even looking at crafted items until you get to 50 and even then you really only need the weapon for the relic quest, darklight can be obtained by raiding dungeons in AF. And even those dungeons will drop gear so... why bother?

I found myself unable to sell anything as a weaver and today I decided to lvl Gladiator for a while, i went to the market, bought a lvl 25 full armor for less than 400g and proceeded to run dungeons for a couple hours. I have almost completed a dungeon set for tank that's better than anything a crafter can create at this level, in 2 hours.

Also, to the people who sell items for 1g.

You realize you would get more money by just vendoring it?

I was thinking that too about Hyperion's population... But then wouldn't there also be A LOT more people to buy things? Unless there's no reason to buy anything?

I know some part of this will just take a long time to work out, 6 months or so, but there's just too much damn stuff up, I do see so many things going for less than 10 gil, and the NPC vendor is like 7 gil.... but the actual effort for the item is way more than 10 gil.. there's just nothing to do.

just like every game with a market. it has a way of working itself out. everything takes time.

Lol you guys are funny, I spend plenty of Gil on markets, and make plenty of Gil from the markets, mostly from food and mats, just because you can get gear easily doesn't mean there is a problem with the markets, sell some other stuff like materia, rare minions, or food and mats.
