What was the point of the recent changes to DoL?

I always wanted to make a fishing thaumaturge. But now it seems I''ll only be able to succesfully fish if I am becoming an archer, which I dont want to be.
Does anybody exactly know what and how this change is going to affect low dex fishers.
What do you think would be the minimum requirement of dex to function at rank 50 and catch as much as other fishermen?
I don't like saying this, but what were the developers thinking with this change?

Seems to me they want stats to have more of an impact. As a R50 fisher before the patch I saw zero change in the way things worked for me. Those who had low statistics in the fishing area are the ones affected. Maybe the swung the pendulum a bit to far when they made this change, that an be adjusted to be less harsh overtime.

Thanks for your reply. Yea, maybe you are right. And on the other hand it's maybe more fun if people specialise more instead of being a jack of all trades on everything.
I do like the jig spot addition though.

My guess is that they wanted the gathering on grades higher than your rank to be more random while making gathering on grades lower than your rank more consistent. Since skill has little to do with gathering, making luck play a larger role is the only way to control the supply of some rarer ingredients that I am sure SE will add to the higher rank grades sooner or later.

Iirc. the 2nd poll also showed that players want physical level to be made class-specific, so with that in mind I think the new system is a representation of that mindset (although the phys. level has not yet been changed).

I would say and hope that its this, assuming they do remove physical levels the new system will most likely have stats assigned to classes.
