Fast Travel Questions

The chocobo system and aether crystals confuse me. I think I'm just missing something, or maybe I accidentally skipped information the game gave me.

Can chocobo porters only take you to capital cities, instead of other chocobo porters? It would be easier to fast travel between north, south, east, west areas with these chocobo porters but none of them have any option other than the nearest capital city. The next question is the crystals: can you only fast travel to smaller crystals from the larger ones, or can smaller ones be selected as your "home"?

You can rent chocobos to go where you want. I am not sure about the other destinations as i havent used them much tho they are fun. Once you get your own you will be able to go anywhere.

I've been wondering the same thing about chocobo porters, so I don't have the answer to that.

As for crystals, you can only set the large crystals as your "home" as well as attune yourself to them for Teleport. The smaller crystals can be used to travel between other smaller crystals as well as the large one, but as far as I know, you can't travel from the large crystals.

chocobo porters are meant to go from a city to outpost or outpost to city, not outpost to outpost. I "think" they did this because of how easy it is to get around.

As Tenko said, large crystals are used in two ways, the teleport command (pay a fee to teleport to a crystal depending on how far away you are) or you can set 1 crystal as your "home point" and use the return command. The small ones in town allow you to quickly teleport around town. The large crystals cannot be used to teleport anywhere.

one last thing to note is that you can set a "secondary homepoint" at one of the three main city Inns. So this effectively allows you to be able to teleport between two cities with the return command every 15 minutes.

Honestly, I think they should charge much MUCH more for teleporting between crystals, like 1000gil minimum. it's too easy to get around! I can go between all the cities for around 900gil. almost no reason to use boats and airships...just my opinion.

You can also set 3 Favourite Crystals. Teleporting to those will only cost half the money it normally would.

As for more expensive teleporting, I don't know about that. Money does not come easy in this game, if you have done all the quests there are. From there on it is 3 guild leves every 8 hours or something like that. We will have to see how it develops when more people have reached max. level.

that's true, but i'm sure there is some way end game to make money. I just feel like crystal teleportation should be "last resort" or for the rich.

I strongly dissagree with the statement that teleporting is (too) cheap. In the contrary - once you'll discover the most of the map / reach the main story quests later on in the game about 25 - 35+ levels where one quest can send you easilly 10 - 15+ times accross the hallf of the world (like Tataru / Minifilia ones) you might change your mind about this. I've paid about 5 or 6k gills on one quest only and using the fav location at Horizon, return teleport at other and occassional "slow" traveling on the mounts otherwise it would be more than double of that.

The community on this forum as absolutely amazing. You all had great information, thanks for sharing. It was very helpful.

Had no idea how favorite crystals worked, didn't know the smaller ones could be used to teleport around town, and had no idea I could use inns that way.

Who do I speak to at the inns to get that to happen, and when I hit the return icon does it let me choose where I go?

You can use the town aethernet from the large crystal, you just have to select the option from the interact menu before the destinations will show up.

I think you can travel from outpost to outpost, but they have to be within the same zone.

chocobo porters have a limit as to how far they can go. the exact distance is kind of ambiguous so you gotta check with the porter him/herself to see if it allows you to travel to your desired destination, ad obviously you can use a porter from vespar bay to quarrymill.

for fast travels:
1. look up your destination, take an airship to the city, and porter there if it is near, or teleport from that city, which will cost way lesser than teleporting it from the other end of eorzea.
2. if you are doing the main story line, research beforehand where you are likely go to move to. so far, until up to haukke manor, it benefitted me greatly to set my homepoint at gridania. home points speed up travelling as you could just use Return instead of using airhship
