Does anyone in-game refer to Midgardsormr as a Primal? I remember in Gaius' speech he calls it a 'Lord among dragons' or something, not an Eikon or anything.

Bingo. Either something has gotten lost in translation, or there has been a significant retcon.

Seems like midgarosmer lost his elder primal status for getting killed, but yea he was originally refered to as primal for drakes the lesser cousin s of dragons.

I realize you all are expecting a witty response from our resident loremaster but, alas, he is indisposed. So, in his stead, allow me to clarify in my own way:

Midgardsormr ain't a primal.

No ifs, ands, or buts. It’s a mistake, plain and simple. Our sincerest apologies for the confusion.

So there are creatures equally powerfull to primals in lore-wise?

That makes for a really good start point for new enemies in the futere. Lore-wise... Of course we can defeat all of em. But it would be nice to have a third kind of enemy besides primals, their beastmen and the garlean empire.

If I may be so bold as to make such a sweeping generalization, I think this harkens back to ancient Greece (on which Eorzea is based). If the Twelve are the Olympians and the Primals are the Titans, these great creatures would be the giants and dragons. Notice that when Midgardsormr perished, he did not dissolve into aetheric mist - he is not concentrated aether (which is what all physically manifest "deities" in Eorzea seem to be).

Midgardsormr, a king among dragons, über boss of kick-arse. I can live with that.

They are. The boundaries between "scalekin" and "dravanian" are a little blurry at the moment, but we're getting there.There's always the chance that dravanians are scalekin, but that would be awkward as Ixal are spoken, not cloudkin. I'd expect the Dravanians to be spoken as well... but... who knows, like I said, the boundaries are kind of blurry right now, lol.
