I emailed them again yesterday. I mentioned again that my account region is overseas, and would it be OK to buy an out-of-region product just for physical and in-game items. In their response, changing regions was not an option.
Also, fwiw, they confirmed that "as far as [they] were aware" the bonus items aren't region-locked, but the main product registration code for the game would be. They also "strongly recommended" that I purchase the version of the game that matches my SE account region in order to avoid any issues in the future.
