Can't login to Playonline

Long ago, I bought FFXI, but didn't play it much. But I did log in during the free trial period, so I have a Playonline ID / password.

Now, with FFXIV shut down, I thought I'd give XI a try again.

But alas, I can't get in. My game is registered with the codes that came in the box, so I can't just create a new account. I have to log in to the old one.

Thankfully I wrote down my PO ID, but not the password.
And now I read that I have to link my PO ID to my SE account?

Can someone tell me in baby language, how to log into Playonline?!

PS: I'd write this in the FFXI forums, but I can't log in without that darn password it seems... I wish SE had a way to reset passwords like everyone else do. :(

I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem. Unfortunately I haven't played FFXI for a long time so I do not know if you can even access play-online anymore. However after searching on the internet I think I have come up with a way to help you. Just follow these steps.

STEP 1:
(a)Go here: https://support.na.square-enix.com/c...php?id=20&la=1
(b)in the CONTACT CATEGORY select Account/billing in the drop down box.
(c)in the CONTACT SUB-CATEGORY select Play-online ID/Password recovery
(d)type in your details for you id probably say something like "I have my CC info. and my POL ID but forgot password" something like that
(e)once you filled out all of your info. hit next. It will bring you to a Faq page of most common mistakes. underneath all the hyperlinks there will be a comment that says "Select "Next" if this does not answer your question." This will bring you to a new page that allows you to get in contact with square enix directly via E-mail or Instant messaging.

STEP 2:
(a)go here http://www.playonline.com/homeus/polshift/help.html
follow the steps and your play-online account should be transferred to you'r new square enix account.

Unfortunately, I've already tried these things. The support center doesn't open an IM agent, it just transfers me to a list of FAQs with answers. The 'answer' is a description of what are common errors when mistyping a password. That's all. :(

I found that only some of the question links actually brings me to the email contact form. I have not found any IM service. But now I've sent them an email, such a shame I'll have to forget about playing FFXI on Sunday. T_T

You don't wanna click on the question links. Underneath all of the links there is another Next button. That is the button you want to hit. Doesn't really matter anyways since there IM chat is only open Monday - Friday. But if the email you get doesn't fully resolve your conflict it beats having to shoot them another E-mail and waiting a couple days for another reply that might or might not fix your problem.

Ah yeah, of course. I'm guessing the 'chat' option does not appear during weekends...? Bah! I was planning on letting the game patch during tonight. Siiiiigh... Oh well, no point in spamming the forums with complaints and cries. Even though I kinda want to... :P

Can't even install the game before I've linked POL and SE account. Is that correct...? I keep getting the message that POL viewer is not installed when I try to setup the game.

Im not sure, i think that means you have to have POL installed than? Remember if your using windows vista or windows 7 the original POL doesn't work. You need to new and improved POL (the only thing new and improved about it is that it works with the new OS's <,<) you can find it here.

Well I'll be... I thought I did that, but apparently I did not. o.o I actually found the chat option now, thanks to your ever so amazing youtube vid. XD I can't believe you did that. Hats off!

EDIT:
For the record, I finally came across someone else on the web who had the same problem as me regarding "POL viewer is not installed". Seems I've downloaded the us version of POL, when I need the eu one. Doh. I feel a slight hope that maybe this can solve my login problem too..... Since I'm quite certain it HAS to be one of the passwords I've entered.

Time will tell.
