So I want to keep a record of all the text in some of these quests. Here is my scheme...

Bolded text
happens outside of cutscenes and cannot be reviewed through the Neverending Story... err, I mean Unending Journey.

Hidden Text

is what happens inside echos, so you can easily identify bordering conversations.

Red Text
is if I think there might be a localisation error, although there aren't many left since Mermentia went to town.

Green text
is where I have my own comments.

Farrimond: Did you see the darkened skies? The streaking lights and the falling comets? I know not what to make of it all... ((I believe this places our arrival in Gridania at the end of the Grand Rite we witness in Beckon of the Elementals. Nope. Make that ten years ago. Khrimm needs ten years to grow up.))
Swethyna: Your life is forfeit should you wander long about the deep wood.
Swethyna: I daresay you still have much to learn before you might justly claim the title of adventurer. Count yourself lucky we Wood Wailers came when we did.
Cecilia: Is that...a treant vine? But that would mean... Did you come across a treant!?
Cecilia: Saved by moogles? To even see a moogle in one's lifetime is rare enough, but to be saved by a pack of them? Not many can make such a boast.
T'kebbe: The two outsiders?
T'kebbe: If they are outsiders, I imagine they have made for the Adventurers' Guild. But that is just my guess. The Carline Canopy, it's called. To reach it, you need only take this path. You should pay a visit yourself, if you've not yet been.

Miounne: So you're the adventurer I've been hearing so much about. Miounne's my name, or Mother Miounne as most call me, and the Carline Canopy is my place.
Miounne: Ah, now there's a look I know all too well. The look of a man newly come to Gridania, having narrowly escaped death or dismemberment in the doing. All you adventurers have that look at first─and you all come to my Canopy wearing it.
Miounne: No doubt you've heard of how peaceful it is here in Gridania, protected as we are on all sides by the Twelveswood. Aye, Twelveswood. Though those born outside the forest still call it the Black Shroud.
Miounne: Just don't come crying to this Mother should it fail to live up to your expectations.
Miounne: Gridania is like any other living thing. She keeps her health by expelling foulness. And I mean no disrespect, lad, but you are part of that foulness―an outsider.
Miounne: You must have passed through the wood to get here. No doubt you've already witnessed her fury firsthand, no?
Miounne: A moving tree? You mean to tell me you were attacked by a treant!? And lived to tell the tale?
Miounne: Ah, so the moogles came along and saved your hide, did they? Aye, you can always count on something extraordinary happening when they turn up.
Miounne: By the gods, next thing I know, you'll be telling me you're acquainted with these “forest-beckoned” outsiders all are talking about.

Yda: And beckoned by the wood, we were.
Papalymo: Or so your Brother E-Sumi tells us as much.
Miounne: You? But you're so─forgive me. This is all just a bit... I'm sorry, are you quite
sure it was Brother E-Sumi-Yan who said this?
Papalymo: In so many words. To be honest, I haven't the slightest notion whether we are these souls beckoned by the wood the good Brother spoke of or not.
Miounne: Well, you are welcome here in either case. Have you come to sup? There's good food and drink to be had, and conversation besides.
Papalymo: No, thank you, as to the food and drink, but conversation interests me a great deal. I understand this establishment oversaw the survey of the site where our airship came down in the forest.
Miounne: Well, if it's a firsthand account you're after, you'd be best off asking one of the adventurers who was dispatched. Give Mother a moment, and I'll find out what I can.
Yda: I told you we shouldn't have jumped. A rough landing in the forest perhaps, but we'd have been greeted by Gridanians and brought here just the same!
Papalymo: To go down with the ship, or to jump from the sky? In hindsight, perhaps I was wrong.
Yda: And here I thought you were supposed to be the smart one.
Miounne: The wreckage is being taken to Atelier FenYll. It seems the remains of the ship and her crew were scattered─and in certain cases splattered─all over the forest.
Yda: <gulp> Sc-scattered...?
Papalymo: Splattered...?
Swethyna: Ah, here you are.
Swethyna: I have come to insist that you are properly cleansed before you would enter the forest again.
Swethyna: Brother ESumi will perform rites to rid you of the greenwrath. Though perhaps through no fault of your own, the Hedge was brought down, and the elementals were angered.
Swethyna: The sins you committed within the forest have sullied you. Neglect to cleanse yourself, and the greenwrath will find you again. This is known.
Swethyna: Come, let us go.


Amiable Adventurer: You would do well to fear the Twelveswood─and live in awe of it. It is as integral to us Gridanians as the sun and the moons.
Amiable Adventurer: She demands your due respect. Never attempt to oppose her, for she is alive and she never forgets.
Beaming Adventurer: You met a moogle!? Well, count yourself among the lucky ones. I haven't even seen one in gods know how many years!
Beaming Adventurer: You spoke to it!? Oh, come on, that's just not fair. I've heard of conjurers who have trained for decades and still couldn't communicate with them. What did you do to deserve such luck!?
Unconcerned Passerby: The Twelveswood is a sacred place, and runs thicker and deeper than you can imagine. Before entering you had best hear what Mother Miounne would tell you. For your own good, as well as the forest's.
Well-bundled Adventurer: If you are planning to stay a while, you might want to learn a bit about the elementals.
Well-bundled Adventurer: They reside within all creation, and are the organizing principle at work throughout the world.
Narrow-eyed Adventurer: As if the breaking of the Hedge wasn't enough, it seems an airship crashed in the forest as well.
Narrow-eyed Adventurer: Most able-bodied adventurers are deep in the wood now, helping the Gods' Quiver and Wood Wailers survey the wreckage.
Morose Merchant: Impurity's as bad as a curse, I tell ye. Gotta get all them dirty deeds off yer back, else the elementals'll get ye.
Morose Merchant: I didn't believe it, neither─till some of me own mates were taken right before me eyes. Poor bastards.
Wispily Whiskered Woodworker: In Gridania, there live a chosen few who are blessed by the forest. They are known as the Padjal.
Wispily Whiskered Woodworker: The touch of the elementals causes horns to sprout from their heads. They are an ageless kind, fluent in the tongue of the forest. It is the stuff of faerie tales, no?

Miounne: Not sure what to make of it all, exactly, or if I even believe you, truth be told. You adventurers have been known to...embellish the facts.
Miounne: Would be a deal easier to believe if you had some sort of proof. Have you nothing to back your claims? Anything at all?
Miounne: A treant vine! Well, now, this
 is convincing! Seems we can't send you packing just yet. If you were attacked by a treant, you must have more than a little woodsin. You'll need to be purified, else the greenwrath will stay fixed on you.
Miounne: Gods, why I'm so nice I'll never know. Fine, I'll see to it you get a spot in the next purification. Meanwhile, you'd do well to visit Camp Bentbranch.
Miounne: Attune with the aetheryte there. It'll ease the burden of getting about while you're in Gridania. Here, I'll show you where it is on your map.
Miounne: And here, take this while you're at it. It's a linkpearl. Use this and you can get in touch with me no matter where you are.
Miounne: To exit the city, just leave the Canopy here and head east until you reach Blue Badger Gate. It leads to the forest. If you get lost, just have a good look at that map of yours. If you still can't get your bearings after that, just use that linkpearl and I'll see what I can do.

Miounne: Well, look who it is! Last Mother heard, the greenwrath was after you something fierce. Been so long, I made you for dead.
Miounne: But it is good to see you returned safely. I pray you learned something of the forest on your outing to Camp Bentbranch.
Miounne: By the by, whilst you were gallivanting about the forest, I paid the conjurers a visit. Aye, and asked about the purification rites needed to cleanse the greenwrath from you.
Miounne: It'd completely slipped my mind, but a great festival is to be held soon. The proper rites will take place then, and you'll be welcome to partake.
Miounne: Oh, and a dance is involved. You'll need to ask at Stillglade Fane if you'd like to learn it. And mind your manners over there─the conjurers don't take kindly to tomfoolery.
Miounne: And you might want to think about taking that treant vine over to Atelier Fen-Yll. They use those things all the time for repairing airships and whatnot.
Miounne: Both are recognized guilds, and you're welcome to lay your loyalties wherever you like. Here, let's see that map of yours.

Miounne: You'll have to go to Stillglade Fane to see about the purification rite. The conjurers will see to it your woodsin is cleansed. That will get the greenwrath off of you.
Miounne: But it's the Fen-Yll leatherworkers who'll be interested in that treant vine. I've marked the Atelier on your map. Should be easy enough to find.

Hereward: This here's Atelier Fen-Yll, home to the leatherworkers. Ours is the trade of workin' skin, hide, pelt, and fur into masterpieces what'll last for generations to come.
Hereward: Everythin' we work with here drew breath once. 'Tis enough to give a bloke pause to think, it is. Aye, 'bout life and all that shite.
Hereward: Happy to show you 'round the shop here, providin' you ain't wastin' my time. I reckon an adventurer as green as you could stand to learn a thing or two.
Hereward: A treant vine? Well don't that beat all. Just you stay there a moment, mate. I've a mind to call in one of the masters for this.
Geva: What is it now? I haven't the time. I'm up to my neck in hides!
Geva: Who's this, then? Never seen you around.
Geva: Ahhh, the nimble-footed adventurer who daringly escaped the raging treant. Yes, yes, we've heard all about you from Mother Miounne.
Geva: Hmph, less-than-average quality, I'd say. An even two thousand gil, no more.
Geva: Now, hear me out before you go trying to haggle yourself a deal.
Geva: The Twelveswood around Gridania is full of elementals. They reside in all things, like little clumps of life.
Geva: They keep watch over all of us─both we forestborn and the beasts of the wood.
Geva: We cannot simply hunt things down in the wood because they hunt us. In all things, the permission of the elementals is needed.
Geva: Not that anybody would expect you to know any of that. It's just something you can gain an innate awareness of after living in Gridania for a while.
Geva: That said, this treant vine isn't something that I'm eager to take. We have our reservations about using materials obtained without the permission of the elementals.
Geva: The treant itself bore you no ill will. It was the greenwrath that drove it to attack you. Perhaps you'd best have Brother ESumi or one of the other conjurers examine it.

Khrimm: Master Geva!
Geva: Gods, Khrimm, you scared me half to death. What is it? How are the airship repairs coming along?
Khrimm: There's something about this airship, Master. The workings are far beyond anything we've ever seen. What kind of people were riding in it, do we know?
Geva: Strange ones, it seems.
Khrimm: Are they from the Empire?
Geva: Hahaha, oh Khrimm! That oafish pair of chocobos' arses? I should think not.
Geva: Don't go worrying yourself. These two have been beckoned here by the elementals, judging by the looks of it.
Khrimm: The elementals...
Geva: Ah, I... I'm sorry, Khrimm. I didn't mean to...
Geva: You mustn't let that trouble you so. They're good people, your parents─Sigurdh and Oona, both. The elementals will forgive them, you'll see.
Khrimm: There are
 no bloody elementals! I know it. And I can prove it!
Geva: Don't go running off into the wood now, you hear? It's dangerous in there!

Geva: Where were we, now?
Geva: Ah, yes! I'll have a conjurer take a look at that treant vine you've got there. If it's something they can get some use out of, I'll see to it you get a bit more coin. How's that?

Soileine: Go in silence. We conjurers require quietude for our meditations, lest the din drown out the whispers of the elementals.
Soileine: You wish to take part in a purification rite?
Soileine: I take it you are the adventurer who recently eluded the treant in the Twelveswood, yes?
Soileine: Miounne has informed us of your particular...situation. Proceed to the rear chamber, if it please you.

O-App-Pesi: Ah, there you are. Well met. I am O-App-Pesi.
O-App-Pesi: Curious, you don't seem too taken aback by my horns. You must be familiar with we Padjal, then.
O-App-Pesi: No need to introduce yourself, I know full well who you are─the unlucky adventurer. And unlucky you are, to have come to Gridania at a time when the Hedge was broken, though gods know that happens far too often.
O-App-Pesi: Ah, forgive me, I suppose an explanation is in order. We conjurers of Gridania use our magic to weave a sort of barrier around the Twelveswood. It is a pact we share with the most ancient of the elementals.
O-App-Pesi: They protect our city, and in turn we protect them. That is why the Hedge exists. Think of it as a symbol of our friendship.
O-App-Pesi: It's also what you and any other non-native to Gridania have to thank for not being attacked upon entering the forest.
O-App-Pesi: At least, you would have it to thank, had luck been with you. The Hedge is the making of man, and therefore not perfect. It falls from time to time, or is broken by enemies of the wood. And so was the case just as you happened to come along.
O-App-Pesi: The greenwrath was upon you the instant you drew near―and it clings to you still. Sorry to say, but you've got the stink of woodsin all about you.
O-App-Pesi: After all that, you still need to ask if forest elementals truly exist!?

Papalymo: That's what I've been trying to tell you. There are elementals in all sorts of things. Rocks, rivers, flowers. They are the unifying force of this entire forest.
Yda: Sooo, an elemental is like a gigantic, super-powerful person?
Papalymo: Really? Are you kidding? How have you made it this far in life? They are not to be thought of as individuals of any size, you dolt. Explain to me what part you don't understand.
Swethyna: I apologize. I was unaware you had visitors, Brother O-App.


Gugula: The fury of the elementals is sure to be wakened whenever the Hedge is broken through.
Gugula: That is why the treant became enraged and attacked. Normally it would never have dared venture so close to the city.
Biddy: Where are those two outsiders from? We've had dealings with those from beyond the wood before, but never have I witnessed such insolence.
Biddy: The elementals within the stones tell me there is no need for concern. But that mark they bear upon their necks...
Ingram: Brother O-App is a Padjal, of course.
Ingram: He is the brightest of Brother E-Sumi's pupils, and favored by the elementals, as well.
Challinie: We conjurers hear the whispers of the elementals, and see to it that their will is made known to all Gridanians.
Challinie: That is why many of our order regularly journey deep into the forest. Fortunately for you, Brother E-Sumi happened to be in the midst of one such visit when you were attacked.
Hetzkin: If Swethyna is involved, it must be a matter of some import. The leader of the Wood Wailers wouldn't waste time dabbling in aught else.
Hetzkin: I sense great power in them, that much is certain. And then there is you... I cannot yet see the role that you will come to play in all of this.
Soileine: The two outsiders brought by Swethyna of the Wood Wailers... There was something strange about them.
Soileine: Then again, there's something a bit queer about you as well. Why don't you try talking to the others? Birds of a feather, as they say.
O-App-Pesi: I pray a moment, please. Swethyna has important words which must be heard.
Yda: Look, Papalymo, he's got horns! This must be one of those Padjal!
Papalymo: Manners, Yda. Gods, the Gridanians will think us raised in a gutter.


Swethyna: I hate to impose, but I'd like to make the cleansing of these two a priority, if at all possible.
Swethyna: Brother E-Sumi seems to have reason to think they may have been beckoned by the elementals.
Papalymo: Beckoned? I assure you they have made no formal contact.
O-App-Pesi: Nor would they have. To be beckoned by the elementals means they have deemed you a soul both worthy and capable of carrying out their will. Their intentions are not easily known, however. The elementals answer to none, but they do have their ways.
O-App-Pesi: I can't help but think that this might all have something to do with the forest's unrest as of late. There is a presence come to Eorzea─one with the power to change the world forever. And it will visit the wood soon.
Yda: And you think that might be us!? I knew it! My mother always told me I was destined for great things!
O-App-Pesi: Still, even we cannot say if the task put to you, if indeed there is one, is good or bad for us. And therein lies the real dilemma.
Yda: Ohhh, don't be like that. The two of us wouldn't hurt a fly. We may get in the way and be a bit annoying, and yes, we have been known to bungle even the simplest of tasks...with occasionally disastrous consequences─but we certainly don't mean to. Can't fault us for that!
Papalymo: <sigh> Yda, do you happen to recall that talk we had about knowing when to be quiet? Well, that when is now.
O-App-Pesi: Hahaha, well, be that as it may, a cleansing is needed. Woodsin is not to be taken lightly─something you would do well to remember. I gather it is nigh time we hold the rites.
O-App-Pesi: Until then, take care not to enter the forest depths. Gods know how much woodsin you've steeped yourselves in. It could well prove your undoing.
O-App-Pesi: Still, now that the Hedge has been recast, you're not likely to see any more treants running rampant.
Papalymo: We shall sleep better for the knowing, and thank you for the concern. But you needn't worry, there is still much to occupy us here within the city.
Swethyna: Let us take our leave, then.
Swethyna: Has Brother ESumi taken leave of his senses? Why bring these two to Gridania?
O-App-Pesi: No doubt it is far too perilous for them to be roaming lost in the Twelveswood. Is that not reason enough?
Swethyna: Hmph, I suppose you have the right of it.

O-App-Pesi: My apologies, went off on a bit of a reverie there, didn't I?
O-App-Pesi: Where were we...? Ah, yes, of course. We were speaking of the elementals.
O-App-Pesi: They are a part of this world, great and powerful. And they do not oft trouble themselves with the inconsequential affairs of man.
O-App-Pesi: They do show themselves from time to time, though. When one beckoned by the wood arrives to hear their bidding, say, or should the greenwrath be wakened.
O-App-Pesi: Those who do not believe in the elementals had best stay clear of the Twelveswood, else it will claim them.
O-App-Pesi: It's believed that the wood captures the souls of such sinners, damning them to an eternity as wildlings.
O-App-Pesi: And that's why you'd do well to take part in the cleansing rites. To purge yourself of all that woodsin, and set you right as the rain.
O-App-Pesi: We dance to honor the elementals, and they forgive us our woodsin in turn. Thus absolved, their greenwrath will not be stirred. Remember this.
O-App-Pesi: The better part of the festival's preparations are made at the Greatloam Growery. I shall notify the botanists of your coming. Once all is ready, they will most like contact you. Best be patient until then.

Miounne: I just received word from the Growery. They've requested you visit them to prepare for the festival.
Miounne: You're tainted with woodsin, remember─which means you're apt to waken the greenwrath. Neglect to dance in the rites, and you're not like to survive another trip into the wood.
Miounne: Do you know whereabouts Greatloam Growery is? Have a look-see at your map if you aren't sure.

Opyltyl: Come in, come in. And welcome to the Greatloam Growery─the very roots of this Gridania.
Opyltyl: You must be the adventurer that good Miounne spoke of. Come, allow me to guide you to the grounds.
Fufucha: Welcome, Taveth! I trust you were able to find us without much trouble?
Fufucha: I was certain it was you from the instant I saw you. Word travels fleet as wind around here, you know?
Fufucha: Shall we get right to it, then? What's that? Ah, nobody has told you anything yet?
Fufucha: Well, there's not much to it really. Dance your heart out in the name of the elementals. The steps are ritualized, though, and must be done correctly. So we'll have to have you practice a bit before the actual rite.
Fufucha: These children will be dancing together with you at the forthcoming Small Harvest.
Fufucha: Forestborn all, so their steps are flawless. Just watch them for a bit and do your best to imitate them.

Fufucha: Let the younglings teach you the dance. They will be taking part in the Small Harvest with you, after all.
Ryd: We always d-do this, like we've just b-been surprised by s-something.

Ryd: H-How did you l-learn it so f-fast?
Aunillie: Watch how I do it. You have to beckon the elementals near. Like this.

Sansa: We bow to show our respect to the elementals. Just like this, see?

Sansa: Perfect! You're nearly as good as us!
Powle: You have to cheer like this! Don't be shy, really get in there and throw your weight around!

Elyn: You can't forget this part! You have to keep a lookout for the elementals. Just like an archer on watch!

Fufucha: Zezekuta, there you are. I've been waiting.
Zezekuta: Sorry for the delay. Let's see what we have then, shall we? Who will be dancing this time around?
Zezekuta: Hmmm, now there's a rare bird. ((I'm not a girl...))
Fufucha: Don't give too much away. Zezekuta can tell all about you simply by looking at your face.
Zezekuta: There's been a lot of adventurers around here recently. Same air about them as you've got about you. I daresay you'll make a good many friends should your travels continue.
Fufucha: I wonder if you can't speed along this fellow's mask. Rumor is, he was attacked by a treant.
Zezekuta: Is that so? Well then, we will have to hurry, won't we? I wouldn't wish that much woodsin on my worst enemy.

Fufucha: Twelve be good, what are those little brats getting into now?
Fufucha: Hey! Practice, practice, prac― I saw that! Would you mind seeing that they behave themselves for me?

Sansa: Come on, there's no time left.
Nicoliaux: I don't see anything else we can do about it.
Sansa: Excuse me, mister. Ummm...you're an adventurer, right?
Sansa: Fufucha always makes us practice too long. Better to just get it over with and head home. Don't you think?
Powle: We'll help you practice. Teach you all the steps. But...only if you do us a favor in return!
Powle: I'll give you some sweets! All you have to do is take us to a certain point...in the forest.
Fufucha: You did well, Taveth. There will be an audience at the rite, though. Throngs of people watching your every move. Enough to make your body seize up, it is. That's why you've got to drill and drill and drill. Until it's second nature, and your body dances of its own accord.
Powle: Fufucha, we promised Taveth we would help him with his steps for the festival.
Aunillie: That's right! We'll make sure he gets the hang of it. You can go back to your duties now, if you like.
Sansa: We know you have a lot to do.
Fufucha: Oh? It looks like you've attracted a little following already, Taveth.
Fufucha: Very well, I leave his fate in your very capable hands, children.
Nicoliaux: Alright, she's gone. Don't forget, you promised!
Sansa: When you're ready, come meet us southwest of the city, past White Wolf Gate. And hurry!
Powle: If you don't come, we'll tell Fufucha that your dancing is dangerous to our impressionable young minds─and you'll have to practice all by yourself!

Powle: Take a look at this map. The place we want you to take us is...there!
Sansa: It's not very far. We could make it there all by ourselves if we really wanted to. It's just―
Powle: If we waken the greenwrath, it could be dangerous. We haven't had the Small Harvest yet, after all.
Sansa: We'll be safe if you're with us.

Powle: Let's go! Off to the Twelveswood!
Powle: What was that? Did you see something? Do something! You are
 an adventurer, aren't you?

Hermit of the Wood: You, there! What're you doin'?
Hermit of the Wood: <sigh> Young ones recruited another adventurer, did they? You shouldn't be here. It ain't safe. Go now, and gather your little friends.
Hermit of the Wood: Why is it everyone is so bloody eager to believe in things they can't even see?

Fluffy Moogle: Hello there. You didn't happen to see Fye pass this way, did you, kupo?
Fluffy Moogle: Goodness gracious me! You can understand what I'm saying, kupo?
Fluffy Moogle: Then do us a favor and pass along a message to Fye, yes?
Fluffy Moogle: Tell her that the mask can't be fixed, because it's simply not broken, kupo. Naught will come of leaving it here, I'm afraid.

???: You alright, then?
Powle: Oh no! It's him!
Hermit of the Wood: You little weasels! Out here again, beggin' favors of the moogles─is that the way of it?
Powle: No we weren't! Were we?
Sansa: No, nothing of the sort.
Hermit of the Wood: Don't talk bollocks! I'm not as dim as you look! You've broken somethin', and you've come here hopin' to get the moogles to fix it.
Sansa: That's not it at all. We only came to leave a letter.
Hermit of the Wood: A letter? What bloody letter?
Sansa: A letter to let them know that we will be holding the purification rites soon, and that we'd really like them to come, if they're not too busy.
Hermit of the Wood: If that don't beat all... I s'pose it's only natural for the younglin's to want the moogles to come, but askin' won't do the blindest bit of good.

Miounne: The Wailers and the Quiver have been scouring the wood since this latest breaking of the Hedge. They're undermanned as it is, and ever looking for able bodies. That might well be why they were looking for you.
Miounne: 'Course, it may be that they've heard you're a dab hand at mooglespeak. If so, I daresay they wouldn't care if you couldn't lift a spear. So long as you can talk to the moogles, you'd be worth more than most.
Miounne: Anyway, whatever they want, just see to it you get your arse over to the Wailing Barracks, alright?

Willelda: What business have you with the Wood Wailers? Speak quickly.
Willelda: If it's this trouble in the wood, the Wailers are looking into it. The conjurers are involved as well, and we're doing all we can.
Willelda: Ah, you wouldn't happen to be Taveth Swiftwing, would you? Well why the hells didn't you say so?
Willelda: I trust you received the message we left with Miounne? Then make your way inside. They've likely started the talks without you.

Nuala: I gather O-App of Stillglade Fane has told you of the Hedge and how it works?
Burchard: Well, it has been broken yet again, though the cause is still unclear to us.
Burchard: You damned adventurers have been known to bring it down in the past─and I for one am of the mind that you've done it again.
Nuala: Gods, what a mess.
Nuala: Understand us, we do not wish to implicate you in this. We seek only to find the perpetrator as swiftly as possible.
Nuala: If not... The consequences will only become more dire.

Nuala: The greenwrath has been stirred by many and more lately, and not just adventurers. It's said those who anger the elementals are claimed by the wood, damned to live out their days wandering its depths.
Nuala: We call those unfortunate souls “wildlings.” And pity them as we may, they are a danger.
Burchard: You'd do well to let others of your kind know this─the dangers of the wood are dark of late.
Nuala: That is all. You may go.

Miounne: Don't expect Commanders Burchard and Nuala to trust you straightaway. Trust is hard-earned among the Wailers.
Miounne: I'm sure they told you to warn any you know. It's the sensible thing to do, given how unforgiving
 the elementals can be of outsiders.
Miounne: By the way, make your way back here to the Carline Canopy when you find the time. I've got something for you.

Miounne: There you are. I hope you weren't disappointed by the lackluster Gridanian welcome you received.
Miounne: In time you will come to understand our ways, and we yours. With your help, we will solve these problems before us.

Miounne: Many think the recent influx of adventurers we've seen here is the result of the elementals of the Twelveswood calling out to you.
Miounne: Whether it's the proximity to Garlemald-occupied Ala Mhigo, or the beast tribes, or their damned eikons that prompted them, none can say. ((Use of "eikon": Influenced by Garlemald?))
Miounne: What we do know is that the wood is allowing more and more intrusions. This latest breaking of the Hedge is no isolated incident.
Miounne: With the spirits beckoning so many, and the Hedge in disarray...I can't help but think it's all an omen of some sort.

Yda: Hello, hello. It seems like moons since last time, but the saviors of the forest have finally returned!
Miounne: And so you have. Come, come. Be welcome.
Miounne: What brings the two of you here? You still have yet to undergo the purification rites. Surely you don't mean to employ an adventurer before seeing to your own cleansing?
Yda: Oh, never mind all that nonsense. But speaking of adventurers─have any come around speaking of waging war on the Empire?
Miounne: I-I'm sorry. Come again?
Papalymo: Gods, Yda, you're a woman grown and that is how you go about broaching a subject? Have you no tact at all?
Miounne: An innocent enough question. You just caught me off-guard, that's all. Anyway, it's not as if I'm averse to answering─no, I've seen no such souls. And even if I had, I'd not allow their warmongering in my establishment.
Miounne: The conjurers teach us that elementals of the Twelveswood are not instruments of war, and no attempt shall be made to use them as such against the Empire.
Papalymo: Aye, I expected as much. Hmmm, I fear we may have been fed false information, then.
Miounne: Oh? And what information is that?
Papalymo: That Gridania is indeed making preparations for war with the Garleans.
Miounne: Khrimm? What is it?
Khrimm: You two! Why are you here!? What are you doing in Gridania!?
Khrimm: You've made everyone think that you were sent for by the elementals. But you're just here to do something bad!
Miounne: Manners, Khrimm! Whatever's the matter?
Miounne: It was not these two who brought down the Hedge. The moogles themselves vouched for them. You apologize right now!
Khrimm: I've heard it all. All about them being summoned by the forest.
Khrimm: Well, if it's true, what did the elementals ask you to do? Go on, tell us! What did they want?
Papalymo: Well, th-they uhhh... It's not that simple, lad, you see. They―
Yda: We aren't entirely sure. They didn't ask anything.
Khrimm: See!? They're just trying to fool everyone. They're liars!

Yda: Do you know where we might find young Khrimm?
Miounne: He lives over at the Oak Atrium. But please, do not read too much into what he said. He is only a child, after all.
Papalymo: True enough. Still, I wouldn't like to leave things as they are. I think it best that we go and have a word with him.
Yda: We'll show him what it means to cross the saviors of the wood! Come, Papalymo!

A'naidjaa: Welcome to the Oak Atrium, servicing all of your timber needs, from toothpicks to trebuchets! Weapons, furniture, tools―if you can name it, we carpenters can make it.
A'naidjaa: We also train aspiring woodworkers in all manner of carpentry, from basic log-handling techniques to advanced carving and joinery. Aye, even lay adventurers such as yourself are always welcome to join our guild.
A'naidjaa: And, there's no need for concern if your fingers are somewhat less than dexterous. With proper training, your skills will grow over time─as surely as the trees themselves.
Zezekuta: Ah, there you are, Taveth. I was wondering when you would arrive. Your mask for the purification rite is nearly finished. Come, try it on to test the fit.
Zezekuta: Is there some problem? I assumed Fufucha had explained everything...
Zezekuta: The purification rite is a kind of, well...transference is what the conjurers call it. You see, dancing in the name of the elementals expunges woodsin by transferring it to the dancer's mask and binding it there, magically.
Zezekuta: They say you were attacked by a treant, so I imagine you've got quite a bit of woodsin about you. That is why we've fashioned this mask for you.
Zezekuta: Please, try it on.
Zezekuta: Perfect, of course! I only hope it serves its purpose as well as it fits...
Zezekuta: Ah, forgive me. I did not mean to give you cause for concern. I was just reminded of another purification mask we kept enshrined here at the Atrium. Like this one, but much older. It failed us once...

Zezekuta: Oh! Hello there, Fye. Where have y─ Fye! Were you off in the Twelveswood again?
Zezekuta: How many times must I tell you? I doubt even the moogles could restore that mask's power!
Fye: Have you seen Khrimm?
Zezekuta: Outside at play, I imagine.
Zezekuta: Ah, my apologies, Taveth. I have forgotten my manners. I should have introduced you. But Fye can be quite shy around strangers.
Zezekuta: Seen her in the wood before, you say? What's that? A message from a moogle!?
Zezekuta: Well that certainly warrants an introduction. Go along and tell her, then. She has gone to the Acorn Orchard just outside.

A'naidjaa: The Acorn Orchard? Yes, it is the small playground outside, on the west side of the Atrium.
A'naidjaa: We built it some time ago for the younglings. Fye ran by not a moment ago. I imagine she was on her way there.
Zezekuta: A message from the moogle to young Fye...
Zezekuta: She will certainly be very excited to hear that. Exit the guild here, and you will find her in the Acorn Orchard just outside.
Ulmhylt: There are very few among us capable of making the purification masks. I myself have never even attempted the feat.
Decima: The moogles certainly can't repair everything. But I daresay they have a far greater chance of helping Fye than we do.
Chalyo Tamlyo: Fye's brother Dunstan was a mighty lancer, and one of the Wood Wailers. The two of them were close as peas in a pod, until... <sigh> The gods can be cruel, can they not?
Frances: Aye, the dead mask. Its powers have left it. A tragedy, that. It was meant for Fye's elder brother, Dunstan. Only it was unable to save him. When it failed, he... The woodsin upon him was too great. The greenwrath could not be stopped.
Caplan: Looking for Fye, you say? She's out playing in the Orchard, I imagine, as all the little runts do. Just head west. You can't miss it.
Caplan: Though if you are thinking to restore that mask of hers, you'd best forget it. You'd need some damned rare materials, and the power of the elementals besides.

Khrimm: Give it up! I've been trying to tell you!
Khrimm: It doesn't matter how much you look.
Khrimm: My parents and your brother are gone! Do you hear me? Gone!
Fye: Why are you saying that? The Wood Wailers said they saw them!
Khrimm: Do you really think your Dunstan was turned into a wildling?
Fye: I-I don't want to, but... I don't know what to think.
Fye: Oh, I forgot to tell you! I'm making a mask now, too. A purification mask.
Fye: If I make a really good one, it might be able to save Dunstan, just like Zezekuta was saying.
Khrimm: Pfft, you make it sound like the elementals even exist.
Fye: Hey!
Fye: You used to believe in the elementals, too. Just like everyone else. Why are you talking like this now?
Fye: What is it, Khrimm? What are you hiding? You can tell me.

Troublesome Tomboy: <whisper> Ya know what? Don't tell anyone, but both Khrimm's and Fye's families got turned into wildlings.

Fye: Could you do me a favor, Taveth? If you see another moogle in the forest, could you ask it something for me? I need to know if there's any way to get back a person who's been taken by the wood. I need to know...if a wildling can be saved.

Zezekuta: You have my sincere apologies. I will have a talk with Khrimm about it, I promise you.
Zezekuta: We foster many of the city's orphaned children here and Khrimm is... Well, he has always been a strong-willed child.
Yda: His parents fell victim to the greenwrath and have been lost ever since. I cannot imagine how hard it must be for him.
Papalymo: And the worst part of it all? He doesn't know why. That must only add to the pain.
Zezekuta: Still, it does not excuse the manner in which he spoke to you, nor his accusations.
Zezekuta: The boy's anger leads him to do things─blaspheming the elementals, quarreling with the other children. I only wish there were some way to guide him...
Yda: His parents, why weren't they purified in this rite of yours before going into the wood?
Zezekuta: Oh, but they were. All saw that they were. A large ceremony took place not long before they disappeared. Scarcely a soul in the city was not present.
Zezekuta: But the mask used that day, it... It failed to cleanse them, for whatever reason. Failed to take on their woodsin.
Papalymo: I wasn't aware such a thing could happen. Tell me, is it possible this same thing could happen to us? Or anyone?
Zezekuta: No, we are creating new masks for you. Brother E-Sumi has assured us that the mask in question was old, worn with age and use, its powers faded.
Zezekuta: And besides, one does not become a wildling without doing something to wake the greenwrath.
Zezekuta: Khrimm's parents, Sigurdh and Oona, and Fye's brother, Dunstan─they were among Gridania's finest warriors. They all fought nobly against the Garleans occupying Ala Mhigo.
Zezekuta: A necessary evil, I suppose. Yet all that violence doubtless served to compound their woodsin.
Yda: They must have been very brave souls.
Papalymo: We shan't keep you any longer, Zezekuta. And we look forward to seeing you again at the festival.
Papalymo: Wildlings claimed by the wood, is it? This I should very much like to see...

Zezekuta: These are holy relics, so we must see to it they are properly cleansed and handled with due reverence prior to use.

Miounne: Brother ESumi has returned to Gridania to conduct the rites at the festival. It has been quite some time since he graced us with his presence.
Miounne: He wishes to meet all of those who will be taking part. He must make his intentions to purge them known to the elementals beforehand.
Miounne: Nasty business, that woodsin. It's enough to keep us forestborn up anights, and that's the truth. You never know when you might end up a wildling. <shudder> You'd best hurry over to Greatloam Growery.

Ryd: S-Some people say the elementals aren't even r-real.
Nicoliaux: Shut up, shut up, shut up! You shouldn't say things like that!
Powle: What are you on about? Of course they're real.
Nicoliaux: You tell him, Powle! But wait, how do you know?
Powle: If they weren't real, how would we know all about the forest? Grown-ups learn that stuff from the elementals.
Aunillie: You have to believe in them, or else they'll come and take you away and make you a wildling and you'll have to wander the forest forever!

Sansa: I see her in the forest sometimes, too. And I hear the grownups talking about her. They say Fye is sad because the elementals are real.
Fufucha: Shush now, children. Brother E-Sumi has come to visit, so be on your best behavior.
E-Sumi-Yan: I believe you were just talking about Fye, were you not?
Powle: That's right. Taveth talked to her in the wood.
Fufucha: Fye!? She spoke to you!?
E-Sumi-Yan: The Twelveswood is ill at ease now. The elementals are frightened. There are many outsiders, and wildlings besides. Yet I fear these are merely pieces to a far greater puzzle.
E-Sumi-Yan: Pray tell me, Taveth, did Fye ask anything of you?
E-Sumi-Yan: I see. So she wishes to ask the moogles if a wildling can be returned from the forest's grasp...
Sansa: We have to find the moogles!
Powle: Yeah, the moogles know everything!
E-Sumi-Yan: Fufucha. Pray, have you any pearl clover fruits?
Fufucha: Begging your pardon, Brother E-Sumi, but no. We handed them all over to the Wood Wailers to use on their rangings.

E-Sumi-Yan: Our dear moogles have a known penchant for these pearl clover fruits, you see. The promise of them may be your best chance of luring the moogles out of hiding.
E-Sumi-Yan: But you must be careful not to enter the deep wood. Your woodsin has yet to be purged. Venture too far, and the greenwrath will find you.
E-Sumi-Yan: Go now, and be wary.

Pudgy Moogle: Might I have a nibble of that pearl clover fruit, kupo? Just a wee nibble?
Pudgy Moogle: Thank you, and thank you again! Such a nice adventurer. What is your name?

Khrimm: You understand what it's saying?

Khrimm: I tried to tell everyone that I saw them. But nobody listened to me. They just ignored me and kept on thinking they were wildlings. They believe anything if you say the elementals did it.
Khrimm: And they won't even look because they say it's taboo. Instead they just wonder what they must have done to be claimed by the forest.
Khrimm: But they never did anything to hurt the wood. All they did was abandon us! Me, and Fye, and all the other children.

Pudgy Moogle: I don't know what's going on, kupo, but the elementals are real. And they do whatever they must to protect the forest.
Pudgy Moogle: This is bad, kupo. Very, very bad. I must try and talk to the elementals. I must try and make things right!

Pudgy Moogle: Ah, yes! Tell me this wildling's name. The one you wish to save. Rescue and save.

Fufucha: Tell me, were you able to inquire about the wildlings? What did you learn?
Fufucha: Aye, I feared as much. Only a fool would imagine quelling the greenwrath to be a simple task.
Fufucha: Brother E-Sumi suspected as much as well, but perhaps he thought you would be able to accomplish something...extraordinary.
Fufucha: You are one of the few who have befriended Fye, after all. And that is no small task.

Fufucha: The elementals asked you to talk to Fye? They asked you!?
Fufucha: But that would mean...y-you are one of those beckoned by the forest─by the elementals. Your being here is no coincidence.
Fufucha: But what could it all mean? The conjurers must be told of this, immediately!

Miounne: What's all this about you being beckoned by the wood? Doing favors for the elementals now, are we?
Miounne: And were you planning on telling me about this at some point? This is the Adventurers' Guild, remember. We're supposed to be working together! Anyway, the Gods' Quiver came by asking about you. That's the archers, in case you didn't know.
Miounne: They asked that you come to the Quiver's Hold right away. Just see to it you mind your manners over there.

Nonolato: The will of the Archers' Guild is that of the elementals―to punish all who would visit harm upon the wood.

Abstracted Gladiator: I've not woken, and therefore cannot hear the Echo as do the others on the Path. Yet I'll not let that prevent me from setting off on my own search for the truth. You see, when the Empire assaulted Ala Mhigo, I alone of all my family was spared, and I consider it my life's duty to return peace to the realm they loved, and I love still.
Barratrous Buccaneer: Leave me be, wanderer. I have much to deliberate, and there are some paths one must walk alone.
Chapeaued Chap: For a man such as myself, the Waking Sands is a Twelvesend.
Chapeaued Chap: Here, I need not don my merchant's mask, knowing that none will judge me by my station, but only by my desire to pursue the truth.
Godfrey: You lost, lad? This ain't the Adventurers' Guild, you know. Won't find no ale nor no saucy ladies within these walls. We serve a greater purpose.
Godfrey: And once you've been enlightened to that purpose, might be that I'll listen to whatever it is you have to say. Until then, though, I've no spare words to waste on you.

Satzfloh: Another eyesore come a-calling, eh? Might be that only Lady Minfilia can deny a man the Path, but step into mine and I'll not hesitate to knock you out of it.
Percevains: The Twelve bless each and every one of their children with talents. Learn to apply those talents, and you may one day rise to greatness. But give in to arrogance, and the world will shun you as the moonless night.
Nonoru: As of late, our guild has seen many newly woken adventurers pass through its doors, and each day seems to bring more.
Nonoru: I first thought the sudden influx might have had something to do with the Fall of the Keeper, ten summers past. However, after speaking with several of those newly come to the Path, I now believe I may have been mistaken.
Sahja Zhwan: Those who walk the Path of the Twelve do so in the hope of apprehending not only the mysteries of the benevolent deities, but also the secrets of their own souls.
Sahja Zhwan: If it is truth you seek, then to you our doors shall remain ever open.
Nenekani: And who might you be? Nenekani never forgets a face, and yours is one I am quite certain
 I would remember. This must, I conclude, be your first time in the Waking Sands.
Nenekani: And if that is so, then I assume Lady Minfilia will be wanting to speak to you of your awakening. Very well, I shall waste no more of your and the Lady's time with my idle ramblings. You will find the Antecedent in the Hall of the First Step.
Red-shoed Rascal: What are you talking with this man about?
Uncomfortable Brute: Yer pardons, good sir. Though it breaks me heart, I can no longer care for this...er...my
 child, here. I beseech thee─take her in and provide her with the good home she so richly deserves! It's what her poor mother would've wanted.
Seranelien: An audience with Lady Minfilia, you say? Very well. She waits behind these doors.

Minfilia: You must be the man of whom the hermit spoke. As you may have heard, I have many questions.
Minfilia: Ah, but I seem to have forgotten my courtesies. Please forgive me. My name is Minfilia, acting Antecedent of the Path of the Twelve.
Minfilia: Your bemused expression tells me you have not heard of us...which is to be expected. Ours is an underground organization dedicated to the documentation and research of divine intervention...or “miracles,” if you wish. We have walkers in each of Eorzea's city-states who investigate and report such phenomena. The young hermit who directed you here is one of many who serve as our eyes and ears.
Minfilia: I shall not bother to elaborate on precisely what I mean by “divine intervention,” for I believe you have already experienced the phenomenon yourself.
Minfilia: You have a rare and special gift, Taveth Swiftwing, and it is that gift that has led you here to us.

Hermit of the Wood: I reckon I've found me another woken, Minfilia. The lad collapsed during the celebration.
Minfilia: After years of naught but rumors, the past several moons have seen the hill of reports on my desk grow into a veritable mountain. Why the sudden influx? And why now, of all times? Which of the Twelve is waking men anew? Which...if any at all?
Hermit of the Wood: How did you─ But you're supposed to be─ Oh...
Minfilia: It seems you have a keen eye, my friend.

Minfilia: And it seems you
 have passed our test.
Minfilia: Yes, yes, you are wondering how what you just witnessed─a conversation between myself and the hermit of the wood─is even possible, considering the fact that one of the involved persons left the Waking Sands nearly a bell ago. Well that, Taveth, is your gift.
Minfilia: And I shall go one step further by suggesting that this is not the first
 time you have had such an experience. Come now, it is not, is it? Oh, you need not withhold your secrets from me. Here, you are among friends, and I give you my solemn word that no harm shall befall you. However, it might still prove prudent to refrain from informing those not on the Path of your awakening. Very few will understand this gift, but many will seek to judge you for possessing it.
Minfilia: And what you possess
 is a rare talent which we have come to refer to as “the Echo.” We believe it is in some way connected to the strange phenomena which have been occurring in locations all about Eorzea.
Minfilia: Were you not witness to the skies turning dark and showering the land with a storm of stars? Some of our brothers believe those who partook in this celestial event were “touched” by the Twelve, and that that
 is how they came by their gift.
Minfilia: The Path is not only a place for study, but a refuge for those who have been touched in some way. We aim to uncover the meaning behind these unexplained events while offering protection and guidance to those who hear the Echo.
Minfilia: But that is not all. My fellow walkers and I share the firm belief that this power was given to us for a purpose. Why entrust man with a gift so extraordinary, after all, if not to have him use it?
Minfilia: And so we offer those who have been touched the means to use their power to better the world―to bring peace to Eorzea.
Minfilia: So, what say you, Taveth? Now that you have heard who we are, and what we are trying to accomplish, will you consider joining us?
Minfilia: Ah, I beg your pardon. It was not my intention to force you into making a decision without allowing you time to consider my words. You are free to explore the building and speak with the others gathered here. When you feel ready to answer my question, visit me again here in the Hall of the First Step.

Seranelien: Lady Minfilia is one of the few survivors of the Fall of the Keeper─one of the few who remember the horrors of that fateful night, ten years gone. ((OMG OMG OMG!!!))

Nenekani: Nenekani can see the past no more clearly than any man might if he closed his eyes and pictured his breakfast. However, the gods did see fit to bless me with a proficiency in languages, including those of the beast tribes.

Red-shoed Rascal: I miss my mummy and my daddy. Why won't you take me home?
Uncomfortable Brute: Alright, alright! I cannot tell a lie. This young lass is not
 my daughter, and I apologize for leading ye to believe that she was. The girl is the trueborn child of a noble family who lives nearby my tiny hovel. Late one night, not long after a starshower, I saw her wandering the streets alone.
Uncomfortable Brute: When I asked her where her parents were, she said she hadn't seen them since they kicked her out of their home─this was after she told them she'd been having visions. I am a poor man and have five children of my own to feed, but I could not bear to see her on the streets. Now do you see my predicament?
Tataru: People from across Aldenard and beyond the Strait of Merlthor gather here in the Waking Sands to learn of the Twelve and walk their Path in the search for truth.
Tataru: Those who have chosen this life are called “walkers,” while those who have yet to make the decision to take that First Step are called “wanderers.”
Tataru: Though you have traveled many malms over sea and land, and seen more in the space of a few moons than most see in a lifetime, you yet lack a path. Without one, you will ever remain bereft of truth, and bereft of a future─a mere wanderer.
Fenana: With chapters across Eorzea to guide us, walkers need never succumb to temptation and wander from the Path of the Twelve.
Fenana: For alone, we may be lost, but joined together as one, our gifts will save the world.
Soft-hearted Septuagenarian: Please, milord...I have nothing...and I've seen too many summers to start anew.
Soft-hearted Septuagenarian: If you'll not grant a man life, then at least grant him the mercy of eternal sleep.
Indigo-eyed Archer: Hah hah! It seems my anger was misplaced. Shortly after you entered the Hall of the First Step for your audience with Lady Minfilia, I was introduced to my new Path companion.
Indigo-eyed Archer: The marauder brooding over yon. Yes, she seems a touch somber for my tastes...but after a few cold nights on the road, I'm sure she'll warm up to me!
Loam-scented Lady: Many here have unique gifts, from the ability to bend the will of a beast with a sword, to the ability to bend the will of a beast with a word

Loam-scented Lady: As for those who hear the Echo and can delve deep into the pasts of others, there are yet but few, though their numbers have been on the rise as of late. Who knows what that might portend? Could the Twelve be preparing mankind for a terrible bale?
Rough-spoken Fellow: I myself was woken ten years ago when I saw me a starshower up in the mountains near Ishgard. Not long after, I started havin' these visions.
Rough-spoken Fellow: Once or twice a year is all, mind ye, but it was enough to put the fear in me belly. Afore long, there weren't no one I could trust. 'Twas enough t' drive me wife into the arms of another man. If it weren't fer the Path, the Echo might've killed me. Luckily, it helped me kill someone else first.
Abstracted Gladiator: I bid you accept my apologies. I was wary of revealing my gift to one I did not know. The truth is, I, too, have been woken to the Echo.
Abstracted Gladiator: However, the power to live another's past is not the “blessing” some think. I've borne witness to many dark memories... So many, in fact, that it has become difficult for me to place my trust in anyone for fear of becoming a dark memory myself. Not knowing what else to do, I came here looking for salvation. Perhaps one day I will have the courage to find it.
Barratrous Buccaneer: Got myself a partner...but I can't say I like the looks of him. Something to do with the way his eyes barely leave my bodice.
Barratrous Buccaneer: Truth be told, though, I'd rather they stayed there than went peering into the murky depths of my past.

Minfilia: Welcome back, Taveth. I take from your presence that you have had sufficient time to consider my offer. What say you?
Minfilia: Very good. I pray together we can learn more of this gift...for though we have scoured the realm for nigh on ten years, I fear there is still little we understand.
Minfilia: Scores of men and women have passed through our doors looking to find answers, and scores have embarked on quests to do just that...but their efforts have gained us little...and many have not returned.
Minfilia: Of those few who have...not one is willing to speak of what he saw at the end of the Path. It is as if they all bore witness to a truth too terrible...or too shameful to be told.
Minfilia: There are those here who would have me use the Echo to delve into the past of the returned. Yet it would be wrong of me to use my gift to tear that truth from them against their will. Were I to condone such an act of violation, we would be no better than the monsters people think us already.
Minfilia: Ah, but enough talk of the knowledge we lack. Let me tell you of what we do
 know.
Minfilia: The Echo allows you to breach the wall of a person's soul, and hear the resonations of their past. You will be there in their memories, seeing things as they saw them. You may even interact with that which lies therein. However, the past is like a stone tablet. You cannot uncarve what is already written.
Minfilia: As an unexpected side effect of the gift, it seems the ability to reach into the soul of another also allows some of us to understand their words without having to comprehend the sounds they utter. In short, the Echo has granted these fortunate souls mastery of every language existing on Hydaelyn.
Minfilia: Unfortunately, that is the sum of our understanding of this gift from the gods... Why, we are not even sure the gift is
 from the Twelve. It is certainly true that many of those who hear the Echo also claim to have witnessed starshowers, but who is to say that even the starshowers are sent by them?
Minfilia: It is a sad admission, but this very lack of knowledge accounts for much of the persecution faced by our walkers. The less that is known about something, the more it is distrusted by the masses. If we were to learn more of the Echo, perhaps we could educate people, and help them to realize that we mean them no harm... But until we have learned that which we must teach them, we can expect only hatred.
Tataru: Pardon my intrusion, Lady Minfilia, but has the adventurer made his decision?
Minfilia: Yes, he has, Tataru.
Tataru: Then please come this way, so I can add your name to our records.

Tataru: I do not believe we were properly introduced. My name is Tataru, and I have been charged with the keeping of our guild's annals. As you have pledged to follow the Path of the Twelve with us, I shall add your name to the List of Walkers.
Tataru: From this day forth, you need no longer wander the realm alone, Taveth Swiftwing. You are our sworn brother, and we will not let you stray from the Path.
Tataru: Now, I assume Lady Minfilia has informed you of our mission, but given that such grand matters can be difficult to take in, I shall relate it to you once more...Wishing to bring peace to the lands of Eorzea, a higher power has favored a handful of men and women with a great gift known to the chosen as “the Echo.”
Tataru: But with great power comes great responsibility! We must prove to the gods that we are worthy of their favor by setting forth on dangerous quests into untamed lands, there to battle savage beasts! Given the peril in which we who walk the Path must therefore place ourselves, all are required to travel in pairs...preferably with a companion who best complements our own skills.
Tataru: And now, the time has come for you to choose, Taveth. Which type of companion would you feel most comfortable with at your side? Which type of companion will complement your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses?
Tataru: Very good. It just so happens someone of that profession awaits a companion of their own.

Tataru: Greetings, Taveth! I bear good tidings! Lady Minfilia has given her blessing to your choice of Path companion. Hurry to the Waking Sands, and I shall introduce you to one another.

Tataru: Welcome back, Pathbound Taveth. Your companion should be arriving shortly.
???: Came as fast as I could, I did. Is me new partner here already?
Tataru: Allow me to introduce you to Taveth Swiftwing─an adventurer, a lately woken walker of the Path, and your new companion.
???: Ye're me new partner, eh? 'Tis nice t' finally meet ye.

???: I had a name, but I decided to forget it when I started on the Path. I ain't th' man I was before, see, an' I reckoned it wouldn't be right t' use that fellow's name. Anyway, since me new life starts here, I s'pose now's as good a time as any t' pick a new one. Got any ideas, Taveth?
???: Hmmm... Aye, I reckon that fits!
Bacchus: Might I ask Miss Tataru t' write it down in her books?
Bacchus: Now, I ain't never judged a man on his past deeds, be they just or ill, and I ain't fixin' t' start any time soon...but if ye don't mind me askin', what is it ye did afore startin' on the Path?
Bacchus: Ye have me thanks, Taveth. I'd given ye no reason t' trust me, but ye did. Now I feel ashamed about not tellin' ye me true name. If ye'd let me, I'd like t' make it up t' ye. Might I buy ye a cup o' sweet red o'er at the Quicksand?
Bacchus: I needs t' go an' get some gelt from me room at th' Hourglass. How about we meet in the guildhall in half a bell?

Momodi: Are you waiting for someone? A comely maiden, perhaps? Ohohoho! Then may I suggest our finest table? Which one is our finest, you ask? Why, all of them are!
Bacchus: So, ye saw a starshower an' all, eh? I tell ye what, I thought I was done for, that night. Thought the Destroyer Himself had come tearin' up the skies, lookin' fer me. Thought he'd got it into his head to make me atone fer a lifetime o' sinnin', I did.
Bacchus: So ye can imagine how thoroughly befogged I was when I woke up, an' found I wasn't lyin' in bloody chunks on th' underworld's doorstep. The gods I'd feared were out t' get me had not only spared me, but given me─a rotten man with a past as black as pitch─a gift worthy of a king or a saint.
Bacchus: An' so I think it only right t' use me gift in a manner that would please those as gave it to me.
Bacchus: Ye might think o' doin' the same yerself, seein' as how they're gods an' most like t' be watchin'
