HD7970 works well if you use the right drivers from the older versions, sorry cant tell you which as i'm long past that probliem. as for its gaming settings you dont really need to do anything. ~ i'd probably set yours back to defult for now. do below. then adjust the amd ones back 1 by one. if you feel the need.
(windows 8 works well driver wise with the 7970!)
4xMSAA, crank general drawing quality to max + all the others
On graphics, tick: depth of field, disbale cutscene effects, enable hardware mouse Only
(dont tick Ambient Occlusion!!!! google it if you want to know why)
Then texture quality high, texture filtering Highest.
Inside the game (config) turn it to 60 fps & you can turn on extended drawing on + any others you want as it can more than handle them.
more than enough power to handle it properly & bearly works up a sweat.
humm I was goign to dump my GTX480 OC for a HD 7970 or 80 now im worried. sure it's not the vsynch settings or a conflict between driver, game synch?
Run the game in Windowed mode with Aero enabled and you'll always get vertical sync. Download something like this to remove the borders when running the game while in windowed mode.
The game lacks vertical sync support. And without it unless the catalyst software has been updated to be aware when the FFXIV game executable is running you will not get vertical sync while in full screen mode. And it's unlikely AMD will include support for FFXIV anytime soon.
what I do with my OC'd 7970 is use a program called Radeonpro
with it, make a profile set to your exe, specify its launcher boot.exe
under the visuals tab at the very bottom slide vertical sync to always on
there is a tweaks tab where you can force vertical sync
select vsync control to always on
check triple buffering
check force aggressive api monitoring
if this doesnt work, then select (under tweaks) double vsync
EDIT: This is with the newest drivers, and OC'd using msi afterburner to 1125/1575
my game works perfectly on highest settings with no tear (I had really bad tearing before using radeonpro)
When I first ran the game with Radeon 6870 HD I had screen tearing issues. I fixed it with D3DOverrider, by forcing V-sync. After sometime and a few driver updates from ATI the problem went away.
D3DOverrider worked for me as a fix.
