What might make the game a little more Atmospheric...

Now, don't think this is a thing that "OMG I WANT IT OR I'M CLOSING MY ACCOUNT" I was thinking about this while working on my mining.

I thought it might be nice to have a side item like a lantern that maybe you can hold in your off hand. Where it will illuminate a small distance of area around you. Because more than once I've found myself struggling to see in some of the areas I go in. (Even adjusting settings doesn't always help in some areas)

And to make it so that your character can have a hand free to hold their weapon or tool, it's hooked to their belt or something. (So maybe even make it a belt item).

I remember Zelda: Twilight Princess had that, and I thought it was the coolest thing for some reason.

I'm agree with this idea.
I would like to have also some areas or dungeons with 'light/dark gameplay' in it where you have to use toches or lanterns or light spells to procede (finding hidden things, switches, etc.). In these areas you can't see the monster names in the distances but only when you actually see them in the range of light (hearing only their sounds from the distance).

Oh! I like that! :D Would make some dungeons more interesting!

It would certainly look good with the new shaders for 2.0.

There was also an old thread about gatherer's getting these sort of things.

I like the idea of having a lantern. Especially if the dev team make places so dark, you cant see far ahead of you without a lantern on your side.

I like lanterns in dark places. Do want. But maybe what would also be cool is lantern weapons. We have a lantern shield. I could easily see lantern staves for WHM/BLM (Like a cane with a lamp dangling from it?). Not totally sure how it could work for the other classes, but...I'm sure they could think of something awesome.
