Dragoon rework idea

Make all the aoes animated as you flying hoizontally in the air with sharp winds cutting the mobs below you. Make some of the gcd attacks animated aerially but not locking you in place. Make winged glide a jump that let's you do a super hero landing on your hand so it won't look like a damage skill. Also make it work on allies. Make lotd closer to a nidhogg estinien form where we get energy wings. Make our slower grounded attacks hit hard so keep full thrust and heavensthrust. Bring back blood of the dragon aura and gauge but Make the gauge more akin to samurai Kenai to spend on short cd ogcds. Bring back the dragon sight tether with infintite range and make it work like closed position so no macros are needed. Make life surge give free gauge like infuriate so it feels better. Also make the healing effect a stackable regen on the dragoon so using it on heavensthrust into another hard hitting move like drakes bane won't cut into the regen timer. Enhanced piercing talon now animated to have a your aura on the flying spear.

I wouldn't mind some how incorporating attacks themed around individual great worms. Maybe instead of deriving powers from them via eyes or otherwise we just get inspired by their movements. Like a circular aoe based on midgardsormrs spin attacks from o10n/s, a twister thrust like Bahamut, Vritra's breath attack, nidhoggs hot tail turned into elaborate soaring spear fired line aoe, I'm not sure what to add for tiamat but perhaps something like estiniens horrid roar when you use him against the proto weapon. She does have a roar to summon her kin from afar so instead of a damage rebuffed like horrid roar we can get a summoner style attack where every enemy hit gets swoopped on by a dragonet.

Remove winged glide all together, give us 2-3 elusive jump charges. Make piercing talon the old slow jump with the same damage neutral*ish potency buff when used after elusive jump. It can stay the as the slow animation since its a GCD instead of an OGCD.

EZ.

That would give us all the tools we need to get around. Keep our gap closers uniquely DRG and most importantly return them to being jumps.

I'm not a fan of giving everyone wings, for me it's Korean-MMO-cliche cringe. Personally I wish WHM/PLD were the only one being able to have wings during their special skills.
There was a good reason for why Estinien looked the way he did in that fight, because he shared a body with Nidhogg. If you give everyone easy access to that form it's less special and less impactful.

Changing the animation? Sure. Removing the gap closer? Not a good idea in a vacuum unless other tools were given. Elusive has its uses and provides versatility but it doesn't always equate to a gap closer.

Hmm yeah the targetable gap closer is nice for sure but I cant think of a time in recent memory where I couldn't just make do with elusive jump to close the distance to a target or just popping sprint. Even during 1min and 2min bursts theres dfd and stardiver to chase targets. The 2.5s GCD lets you cover some pretty decent distances on foot.

Not invested in the idea or anything though xD just some thoughts for lels~

That being said, I know the idea of winged glide being turned into a jump gets thrown around a lot but im not personally a big fan of the idea if its a spineshatter type jump. I feel like it doesnt make much sense to go through the same motions of jumping high into the sky to come down on your enemy only not to stick your spear out for some reason? Bit ehhh i dunno. That sort of jump should be reserved for damage type jumps. A lower to the ground jump like a foward elusive jump or the old drk plunge might be more appropriate. Maybe something along the lines of the air hop thingo from Monster hunters insect glaive if anyone is familiar with that?

Oh an additional thought for getting rid of winged glide all together. Instead of the targetable gap closer how about just giving us back our spear reach advantage? XD 5 yalms? You could get away with a lot with an extra 2 yalms of reach especially paired with elusive and our already long 2.5s gcd~ uniqueness~ hmm hmm? XD

I'd even go a step further:

* Remove Wish.com gapcloser
* Sorta remove piercing talon.
* New jump gapcloser that is a GCD, deals quite heavy damage (but less than the main rotation), during the animation we aren't invulnerable (since that'd mess with combat mechanics) but cannot take damage.
* If done after backflip, substantional damage buff that makes it competitive in damage, even including the time spent on the backflip. But just barely. It'd still not be worth "wasting" your gapcloser for damage, but it'd also never be a problem if you use it.
* Keep the the two long-CD jumps.
* Make High Jump an actual jump again, during the animation we can briefly move a targetting cursor (it defaults to the standard target location of a targetted jump) akin to PvP that allows fine-tunning the arrival spot. To make this less problematic, Mirage Dive is now a full "freebie", it has no animation lock and hence can in theory be triple-woven whenever.
* The replace for Piercing Talon is Skewer&Recover. Skewer throws the lance as a GCD, very heavy damage, disarming yourself. Actual debuff and all, cannot use weapon skills etc. This debuff lasts until you either walk close enough to the target you skewered or use Recover, at which point you jump to the target and in an ~2.5s cast rip out the lance, dealing heavy damage again and causing a bleed.

So in total, a bunch of jumps. MORE JUMPS.

At first I was thinking that this sounded very clunky but then I thought... hmm as a disengage/downtime skill it would be kinda fantastic xD. Like here hold this. Then the boss goes untargetable and all that jazz then when they reappear you yoink it out of them and continue stabbing xD. Atleast if such a skill existed thats how id imagine using it :P

That being said, on a personal level ive never been a fan of the idea of drg throwing their lance. Like piercing talon or wyrmwind. I dunno, the idea of throwing away our main weapon seems kinda cheesy? Its just a me thing though xD

Also also, when you say disarmed and no weapon skills what about abilities too? Because dfd stardiver, geirskogul etc are abilities and they would make zero sense without a spear. Or would it be spear related abilities as well? All abilities?

Yeah that's what I thought of. When you expect to lose more than 1 GCD of uptime anyways, say from a boss doing its own thing for a bit.

Yeah not sure. I know Disarmed (the debuff) only preclused weapon skills, but at the same time it feels weird to not re-use existing effects, but then again you're right, many oGCDs make no sense without the lance in hand. Hrm...
