Cure 3 not healing other alliances

Cure 3 does not heal an ally if they are not in your party, even when you target them. The AoE part can stay party exclusive. It is just very unintuitive to target someone and cast a targeting heal spell and the target does not get healed. Please make the heal always apply to the target, even when they are not in a party with you.

With the chaotic alliances raid this is the first time this somewhat matters. Maybe there are more abilities like this and they could use the same change.

For a brief time, PvP Cure III could hit other alliance’s party and your own party in a single cast. I imagine they can do this to PvE Cure III (or any of our AoE kits tbh).

In general there's an interesting problem (in particular in Rival Wings / Frontline PvP though) about how FFXIV handles AoE abilities. Namely, right now, it doesn't.

This is a problem, and there's a good reason that all other MMORPGs pick one of two approaches for this, those being

• Implement a max-target limit, and usually the closest X targets (8 for virtually all our current abilities in PvE, 5 in PvP) would be picked to be affected. You yourself would naturally be one of those (with a distance of 0) for positive abilities.
• Hit all applicable targets, but divide a certain output through the number of people hit if that number is >8 in PvE or >5 in PvP. So at 8 targets or less it hits each target for Y. But if you hit 16 targets, everyone gets Y/2 effect.

There are pros and cons for both approaches, more importantly is deciding on one as they ultimately both solve the issue. Assuming this is done, a minority of specific and costly spells with other limitations breaking this rule would be interesting. Since Cure III has a tiny radius and a big MP cost, I could see it totally just heal everyone in the target radius for the full amount of course.

You might have misunderstood what I want. The AoE part of Cure 3 can stay party exclusive. Cure 2 can heal other alliance members, if you target them. Since Cure 3 is also a targeted spell, but with an AoE heal round the target, I want the targeted unit to also get healed across alliances.

If you just want the single person you are targeted to be healed why are you using cure 3 anyway?

If you want to target another alliance and heal that person directly but have the AOE portion heal the party you’d be better off AOE healing the party then oGCD healing the person from the other alliance

It came up in the chaotic alliance raid and there I even noticed it how Cure 3 is worded.
As H2 in alliance A and C you are responsible to heal a ranged player from alliance B.
Of cause there are other ways to do it. I think it is just very unintuitive to target an ally, then cast a targeting healing spell, and then that target does not get healed. Which is exactly what happens here.

The reason I may have misunderstood your point was because in such situation one may want to heal just one target, they shouldn't use Cure III. Ignoring the AoE, it's essentially ST 600p for 1,500 MP as opposed to other cheaper and more efficient options.

I suppose the difference is noted in their tooltips.

All heals that can heal players outside parties today does not specify who outside "target's HP". Meanwhile all heals that cannot incl. single target ones like Taurochole, Excog, Union (I still hate Union can't be spent on other alliance's members) all specifically wrote "party member". Cure III is the same.

Even if it is "unintuitive" to you as you have said, I don't see how bad is it to switch to using Cure II when you find out Cure III doesn't work the way you assume.

Reading your skill tooltips is pretty useful. Cure 3 is not the only one targeted ability that works on party members only. Divine Benison, Aquaveil are also like this.
