Another Profession for Gathering Skins/Leathers

Some of us spend a lot of time gathering skins for leatherworking/alchemy/culinary professions. The drop rate of skins is absolutely ridiculous. It is extremely frustrating when you kill over 20 in a row without a single drop! If such a low drop rate is so the market wont become saturated, a solution is to add skinning as a gathering profession. Can set it up so its linked to a DoW/DoM job, but give the option to skin if you are leveled in that gathering job. Doing so can help to keep the market from being flooded, and also improve gameplay for those that want to actually collect skins.

Do fates and buy the stuf for gemstones.

Yes, drop rates are too low, and enemy density is also too low, can't pull 10 mobs at once and AOE them down.

I do run fates for gemstones to buy the items, that's not the point, I wasn't looking for info on how to obtain items. This was an idea for another profession that I think could be a good one.

It's a suggestion that comes up frequently but SE shows no signs of interest. Right now, every player is capable of gathering those items if they want and the lower drop rates gives value to them as items to be sold on the marketboard.

So the options to get the creature drops are:

Farm yourself
Use combat retainer ventures
Use gemstones
Buy from marketboard

This is the most baffling part of your suggestion. You acknowledge that skins retain value by low drop rate, and somehow believed proposing a means to acquire more skins would still somehow retain that value?

I sell skins for profit and I get them from one of my retainers. If you need so much skins, get yourself a retainer to support you. Though I support the cry for more drops per creature in higher levels!

That's why I have a post for the same thing. Trapper. Trapper functions the same as Fisher. You lay out bait with a trap, wait for the ! mark to spring the trap. You then receive the resource the animal drops. It's random if they drop a few different types (aldgoat milk or aldgoat skin).

While I do like the idea of a gather type class to farm drop material, I do not think its a good idea for the game economy. Do you see how fast new folklore node items sink super quick while the tombstone mats go down a bit slower? Generally speaking FFXIV's game ecnon has too much supply and not enough demand and getting drop materials far easier in larger bulks would just drive down costs of crafted gear and drop gear, making a greater decline of motivation to bother with crafting at all


ya read my post above, having too much supply is actually not a good idea.

that issue that you see as a negative is MEANT to be that way so there is not an over saturation of items, if you have an over saturation in all materials, it will make an increase of supply of the crafted items without the proper demand to keep prices at something worthwhile to craft at all, this is already a problem as is, since people find gil "worthless" thus dont bother with crafting/ selling lower level items.

also no one in their right mind would craft a full 91 maiming set, since a lot of people sell MSQ rewards, find that single maiming item that is in demand due to people buying them for leves, then do the same for that casting item, etc.

also why would you farm for drops? that makes no sense to me, either:

if the cost of the mat is so high, you need to make a "profit" off self farming, you are better off selling the mat itself and not craft

buy the mats you cant farm your self time efficiency with gil and as long as the item sold (after tax) is more then buying the mats (after tax) + the cost of what you could sold your own gathering items, then it is worth crafting.

from a time efficiency / cost opportunity standpoint, there is no reason to self farm drops because the drops are too low. Can you keep up with crafting sales farming your own drops? if no you need to buy them
