[Zone 5 & 6 Spoilers] I need the naming conventions

So, I think I figured out the naming conventions in most of Tural pretty easily and can follow the ideas behind naming for all of the groups (Hhetsarro, Xbr'aal, Shentona, Tonawata).

But one thing I can't figure out is the naming conventions for Alexandrians.

Most of the Lalafell (Milalla) have names that are palindromes, and the Viera, Hyur and Elezen seem to have a few options which range from fairly typical-looking names, types of gems/rocks/Earth like Sphene and Geode, and then feelings or emotions like Nostalgia.

For the latter few races, I'm wondering who gets what and why. Why do some people get named after a gem and others get the emotions?

I haven't noticed a pattern really. The first things came to mind is that it may be a class or caste system sort of thing going on?

I know it's too early to get that information probably from any official source--I say as I stare at the pinned naming convention posts--but, perhaps someone has noticed something I didn't?

The simplest part of the puzzle is that with one or two exceptions (Sphene and Geode, from memory), it seems that all of the "stone" names are Elezen ("Eldite" IIRC) so it seems to be their thing, and Milalla clearly have their own pattern.

Not counting the Tonawawta/Shetona immigrants*, there seem to be two main groups of Hyune names: there are "normal" names that I think are a more modern English than what Hyur draw from (but don't quote me on that), and in-universe I would assume these to be traditional Alexandrian, and then there are the "emotion" names used by some Hyune and at least one Shetona, which I would speculate to be a modern trend.

* I'm not sure that "immigrants" is technically the right word to be using when they never moved, but it's the closest option in normality.

When you get the sightseeing log for the mosaic in solution 9 it reads the following: This popular café is found in Solution Nine's commerce sector. The races of Alexandria are named after stones, and calling the shop “Mosaic” was in acknowledgment of the colorful work of art that is created when the people gather together.

So it seems to be very much based on rocks and gems, at least for the elezen and sphene.

The other names, like Nostalgia, I can only guess are based on what you might have on a moodring and that would be connected to rocks.

There's a similar explanation from Sphene when you tour the city:

Either way, I feel that this seems like a translation error. Neither the race names nor the Hyune/Milalla names have a stone theme (unless they're very unfamiliar ones), only Eldite.

Additionally, neither explanation directly connects the "people as stones" to "stones in a mosaic", instead just talking about a mosaic of colours, which could be said regardless of how the races are named.

My initial assumption was that hyune was meant to be hauyne (what makes lapis) but it turns out hauyne is not pronounced how I thought it was (I'd never heard it out loud and never seen a pronunciation guide).

Could be that tribes are named after fantasy stones, rather than real stones.

Eldite isn't a real stone, either. There's eldarite, but eldite isn't a thing. My best guess is that all three are named for some fantasy mineral we're not privy to.

I meant that the names of individual Eldite characters are stone-names.

Hello, I did this for an FC I was helping. I wrote down all of the names in the zone, organized it by what they were, and then looked up the etymology of the names. Many Eorzean names are Germanic in origin. All of the names, from ordinary names to concepts, like Nostalgia and Melancholy, are Greek in origin with the exception of Gerolt's version Genolt, which is meaningless. Every other Hyune in the area has a name that is Greek in origin.

This is my first time posting on here that I remember-- I hope this helps someone.

(midlander) Amaryllis - Greek, “fresh, sparkling”
(highlander) Theron - Greek origin, “Hunter”
(midlander) Eleni - Greek, meaning torch
(midlander) Philomon - Greek, meaning affectionate
(midlander) Karisa - Greek origin, “grace”

Though there is a lot of variation on their relation to ancient Greek words or concepts, or how strongly they're derived, their etymology does include possible Greek origins for all of these names.

(elezen) Unakite - However, could also be turali because they’re named after north america’s south mountains the Unaka, where I think the rock was maybe found, and the name Unaka is based on a Cherokee word, unega, meaning “white” so that’s fun. Probably it’s just a rock though but yeah.
