Open World PvP

Why not make it so you can shift forms, however it would require to fight under the City State banner you picked.

Open World PvP worked well in Star Wars Galaxies, yes I know it is an old old MMO that only is kept going by the fanbase to these days with private servers and the likes.

But one thing the game got right, was PvP.

You could set yourself in 3 forms.

1. On Leave Not flagged for anything
2. Combatant - None PvP but able to attack NPC's
3. SF Special Forces - PvP

Flagging self was done by a command, but likewise a button can be used for it... if you are Full PvP form... it would take you 5 or 10 minutes to go on leave again, I would say 10 minutes being vulnerable to attacks would be best option... also when you are flagging yourself for it your character would blink or something for a minute, that way the opponent will be able to notice if am possibly going to be jumped and either to prepare or to get away.

PvP should be the reward in it self as it is and actually in an MMORPG it is the Ultimate form of RP.

And maybe to have players be able to set down bases that is bought for seals or something, that can be taken down when and in the period they get vulnerable.

There is a catch to it all though, when you switch to PvP mode, you can't engage in PvE, as your hotbars will switch out to the ones we use in PvP.

While I am always open to OW discussions realistically I would give this an extremely low chance of being implemented in FFXIV. Just getting this out there first.

I find this strategy interesting, but too complicated. I don't see, for example, why there's a need to have an option for 3 options, typically in OW people would want to either be flagged for PvP or not- if that option is offered. You wouldn't want someone to be able to change the flag too frequently, not while they are involved in PVP.

I also don't see why you would block someone flagged from PvP from PvE. First of all, their PvP bars still have skills that are usable in PvE, and secondly, that is likely going to be a way to incentivize OW PVP- provide reasons to PvE, which would draw PvPers (who could only attack flagged players).

All of that is theoretical anyways, it's not a small request.

Too complicated? This was working in an MMO in the early 2Ks including a player city system and advanced decoration system.

So no, not really that difficult, it is a small request you pick your side from the 3 original citystates, the pvp part itself is more player made... as long as you are in Special Ops mode you will be attacked by NPCs at other citystates than your own, and it wont be pretty.

So I went back and re-read it. It would be worse than I thought. I don't see the advantage of splitting up the population into some people who can PvP, some people who can PvE - they can attack NPCs, but - no PvP-and those people who won't PvP or PvE - NPCs. OK, flags can be reset, but there's no incentives in this game to get out in the OW, no events, no quests for this "special OPs", for PVP, etc. All of that would need to be added to incentivize people otherwise this would just die out.

No matter how you sugar coating the World PvP, at the end, it is just the Weaks want to kill players that venerable because they can't kill anyone at normal PvP circumstances.
Since Vanilla WoW to Shadowland Wow, the idea of world PvP is just a joke.

Perhaps English isn't your first laguage, because "it is just the Weaks want to kill players that venerable because they can't kill anyone at normal PvP circumstances" probably mean want I think what you're trying to say. I think you're trying to say that it's just people that want to gank other people?

Your last sentence seems to be related to WoW, having never played WoW, I won't comment on that game, my experience is related several other games., in which case I would disagree- that's not the only type of people who like OW PVP although ganking can occur.

Open World PvP is just kind of miserable as a gameplay system; because a developer either has to just let people do whatever people want without consequence; or there has to be consequences that very few people like or agree with.

A PvP flag toggle tends to be the happy-medium, but i feel like a really big map/field with very few instanced doors makes open world pvp more possible. Warcraft is one of the few mmorpg's that have such a world map that makes it work, and even then a lot of the PvP is separated by other layers; like server realms.

It is only when you have flagged yourself for PvP you would be splitted, just like Rebels fighting the Imperials, it would add ot things and as for open world, it is the own possible way to do such, you need factions... else it will just be all vs all.

It is much more difficult in the open world, in matches there is pre-set rules.. move i tem from B to A or C....

With linkshells and more to it it would be players in the open world calling in for aid as they are getting beaten from people and just add to the minor wars, though I wonder if the server spaghetti code can handle, it takes much more organisation other than saying to follow square or triangle or whatever and as for the open world you can take advantage of the locations you are at and people just want to fly in have ranged brds and the likes taking them down.

Yes, we both understand what faction -based PvP is, as well as what flagging for PvP is. Perhaps I haven't communicated everything that needs to be thought through in order to implement and maintain such as system so that a sufficient number of people participate, otherwise OW remains a dead zone and developer time is wasted- leading to people saying things like PvP is a useless investment.

Again, I believe this is a hypothetical discussion, I don't see OW PvP being introduced, if anything Square MAY consider adding a zone one day.
