new price for endwalker dlc in turkey is insane(and probably for argentina too)

today steam removed argentinian peso and turkish lira,and added 2 new regions called latam usd and mena usd

its like regional pricing but a bit different.people from mena usd and latam usd regions will now see prices as usd,but developers will be able to set seperate usd prices for those regions.for example elden ring costs 40 dollars,cp2077 costs 45 dollars,bg3 costs 35 dollars etc.

but i guess square enix decided to completely ignore these suggestions and ff14 endwalker costs 40 dollars,same as normal usd region,no regional pricing

and the thing is (im gonna talk about lira because im turkish but argentine peso is probably the same) endwalker used to cost 152 liras,now it costs 1150 liras,10x price increase.normally it should cost around 600 if they follow suggested price (which is pretty reasonable for an ff14 dlc,160 was a steal)

im already paying 350 liras for entry sub each month (yes,prior to this change sub costed more than expansion lmao) and probably gonna buy dawntrail even if it costs 1500 liras but im pretty well off so when i ask any of my friends to play ff14 they call me insane for paying that amount lol no ones gonna pay 1200 for dlc and 350 sub fee each month while world of warcraft has regional pricing and costs 150 liras a month.i mean even though ff14 sub fee was high at least we had regional pricing for the dlcs but now its gone too sadly :(

and i think ff14 already has regional pricing for brazil (for both sub fee and dlcs) so its not impossible to bring regional pricing they just refuse to give it to other countries for some reason

I don't think Square-Enix itself sets the regional prices. So far as I recall, Steam does.

Eitherway, if they were to adjust their pricing model to fit currencies that possibly don't have so much global value they'd be losing a lot of money. Not to mention that you can't do this for one country and not do the same for another.

I'll chime in from Turkey and say that while we needed the regional pricing for subs for a while, with the recent changes a broad pricing change is a must. The reality is, the monthly sub is just prohibitively expansive. I'm not even talking about the standard subscription, the entry subscription is still such a high price that you'd think at least twice before paying it. Over the years I had friends that went from "Yeah I'll buy it the next time it goes on sale" to "Ain't no way I'm buying that, I'm not bourgeoisie". Heck, even I am debating how will I manage to buy Dawntrail and still eat properly on that month. Me saying this after having a /playtime of more than 3000 hours is painful, but it is what it is. If you go to Steam reviews for FFXIV and select the Turkish reviews, while they are Mostly Positive, every single one of them are complaining about the high monthly subscription cost, some mentioning they would keep playing if the sub cost was not as high as it is.

I'd love for Square Enix to consider adding regional pricing policies to Turkey. I have wanted it to happen for a long time, but it has never been more needed than now. I can't even suggest a price because the economy is so volatile and generally bad. I'm sure they can do that math better than I can. A few bad actors abusing a system they can (and should) be punished for abusing must not bar a whole country from an MMO. This whole situation is very depressing, and I hope at least Square Enix can do the good thing.

i really dont think you read the post.steam doesnt "set" regional pricing they recommend a price to the developer and its up to them to follow that. for example recommended price for endwalker is 19 dollars in turkey but square enix set it as 40 dollars

and as i said brazil already has regional pricing so they done this for one country already.
+wow has regional pricing too so if blizzard can do it square enix can too.its better if 10 people subs for 5 euro instead of 1 person subbing for 11 euro thats the whole point of regional pricing and reason most companies do it

It's not really that simple. If SE sell 1000 expansion codes in a region or 100000, the costs are largely the same to them, the only slice they are losing is Valve's cut, there's no physical product to manufacture, the development has already been done, the infrastructure is there regardless etcetc. Thus any sale they lose due to the customer not being willing to eat the price hike is actual money lost as it'll likely result in a canceled Sub too, which importantly is the true breadwinner here.

As for not being able to do this for one country without doing the same elsewhere, I'm not sure what that's founded in? This is absolutely common place not only from SE and Steam, but other subscription services as well. Youtube Premium's price can vary wildly depending on your region and lets not forget when SE hiked up the UK price of physical boxed collectors editions by something like 50%+ over Europe despite the fact that it was all the same stock being shipped from an office in London.

I don't think it's a deliberate move by SE to gouge the region though, they are just a huge slow moving entity, likely this sort of thing needs to go through multiple committees before it gets sorted. The best thing to do is keep nagging, hopefully it gets fixed for you guys before Dawntrail lands++

by the way,mena and latam doesnt mean only turkey and argentina.it includes 25 more countries so if they add regional pricing they will benefit from it as well
