Undercutting... we all know it. Not sure if many of them are bots..
But it seems you can't place a bid without being outbid again just a few seconds or minutes later.
It takes away your possibility to get rewarded for your effort and yet some people seem to get rich while we can't... as if they have a bot or script to keep track of the prices and autoupdate them.
So my suggestion to deal with this issue is as follows:
- When you put an item on the market you can never bid lower then the average of all bids, meaning the system will auto suggest a price for you to ask "or" you can raise it.
- For each day your item sits on the market its price will be 1% lower so after 10 days people will get a 10% discount on your item however the seller will still get the full amount (game pays for the discount)
- Updating your price will reset the discount timer meaning people will yet again have to pay for the full 100% on day 1.
- After 99 days people will get a 99% discount on your item meaning it will always sell seeing as undercutters can't go under the average price which will always be higher then the discount given.
This way people that are patient will always see their items sell and undercutters will be able to be less agressive. This means that more people will get rich while not having to piss eachother off.
This potentially gives SE a chance to make gil more useable/valuable in game by presenting more options that may require it.
Obviously I'm not saying you should copy my idea entirely seeing as abusers will always find a way to abuse, but at least try to see the potential here.
There are clear methods to make undercutting feel unrewarding.

It's not that easy. Many people I know go from one server to another to get the items they want at a cheap price.
So even if its not present on your current server, you'd still have to compete with pricing of the other servers.
I think SE did a mistake here. -

Yes I realised this issue is far more complicated. I figured I could solve it easily but I need to spend a lot more time on thinking this trough so consider this topic "CLOSED".

What segment(s) of the player base are most likely to buy the item? What is the wealth those segments are likely to have available? Are those players wiling to pay for speed of acquisition/convenience?
How easy is it to obtain the item? If crafted, are the crafting materials harder to source or available on demand?

And yes, I will undercut. There's a time to hold firm to your price and a time to undercut the other sellers. Knowing when to do which is part of how you manage to make gil. Even the 1 gil undercuts are frequently pointless. Either the item is going to sell regardless or it's going to be sitting there because players aren't interested in buying at the current marketboard prices.
Your suggestion 1 is nonsensical, which you would know if you could do basic math. It would only work if every seller listed the same item for the exact same price. The moment something gets listed for a higher price, all subsequent listings would have to increase as well. The price would never go back down, likely pushing the price of an item out of the range of what players are willing to pay.
Your second suggestion would never happen. Part of the purpose of the marketboard is to remove gil from world economies via the sales tax, not infuse it with freshly minted gil because buyer sat around waiting for discount prices.
Your third suggestion - I guess it doesn't matter? There's no point in relisting an item when your first suggestion prevents it from being relisted for a lower price.
Your fourth suggestion will never happen because your second suggestion will never happen.
It's a free market. There's supposed to be competition. The way to get rich is to understand the buyers and your other competition better than that competition does. Nothing you suggest makes gil more valuable. The only thing that would make gil more valuable is for SE to reduce the amount of gil entering the world economies. Your suggestions only make it worse with your "discount for buyer but SE makes up the difference".
People are always going to be angry because it's a natural response to competition. "Friendly" competition doesn't truly exist unless it's by consent between friends where winning the competition isn't the actual goal.
There is no potential in your suggestion. It's a dysfunctional mess.
If you're that worried about making gil but you're not having luck on the MB, avoid selling on the marketboard. There are plenty of ways to make gil in the game without selling a thing to other players. Crafting/gathering leves and treasure maps immediately spring to mind. Roulette farming for AIN bonuses. You can get a gil reward for just about any content you do in the game other than PvP and Gold Saucer whether it's the gil directly or vendoring the rewards you get for gil.
But by far the most important step to making gil is to not spend it. Only buy something if that is the only way to get the item (or if you've gotten rich so you have the gil to spare).
The mistake is thinking that some sort of price control system would ever be implemented, let alone in a way that will make it easier for players to make gil.Quote:
