One of these things needs to change.

So I'm on Zalera and most of my friends are on Coerul.

My friends would like me to be in an FC, I'm currently not in one and I can't join theirs because I'm not on Coerul. I don't want to be in a Zalera FC because I've been in several already and they all sucked. I don't know anyone on this server and after three years I think I'm ready to give up on it.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...

I also have a house on Zalera, if I move servers I lose it and it looks like getting another house will be an even more hellish prospect than getting one the first time. My house is well decorated and the investment is probably in the hundreds of millions of gil at this point. Even if I decide to move, I can't do it until 6.2 because my retainers are full of stuff I'm waiting to deposit in the glamour dresser and I would need the space to move my furniture.

I really think this is not a fair situation. Bad enough that it costs $18 to move server which, IMO, is price gouging, but you also get stuck in a situation where you lose something you've spent a lot of time and money working on. Is it really necessary to stick your players in such a conundrum?

P.S. Please don't mention Cross World Linkshells as a solution, it isn't a solution for my needs.

First, go look up "sunk cost fallacy." The gil you spent on your house is gone, whether you move to another world or not.

After that, ask yourself: why not simply create a new character on Coeurl?
It costs you nothing.

Yes, you have to level them up from scratch, but the ARR/HW portion goes fast, and it's fun.
And your new character doesn't have to start from scratch: there are ways to transfer some of your current wealth to your new character.

Your new character might be able to get the same name as your current one, if no one has claimed that name on Coeurl.

I agree its a shit situation you're in but I don't foresee a way for people to transfer AND keep their home while there is still a massive housing shortage. There's no real way for it to be fair to the people who are on the world youre transferring to to just have plots snatched up by people moving around. Like I said I agree its a crappy situation but I think Silverbane above offered the most reasonable solutions that you have unfortunately.

Cold as it sounds, I don't think anyone's worth moving and losing a house for. Something could happen down the road and those people aren't there anymore. You're left with nothing.

Spend a little more on an MSQ skip and you'll be caught up in no time.

You set your feet in Zalera. It really is as simple as that. Sure, the experience has changed in a way you could never anticipate. It still doesn't change that your roots are set in Zalera. To uproot now would be difficult, timely, and costly. Can't be done without loss that is for sure.

Sounds to me you should have started off in couerl, not Zalera. That's neither here or there, but I would honestly stay put. Granted, I don't invest much emotion into online friends. At least not the kind of emotion that goes into a fully decorated, extremely difficult to obtain plot in FFXIV

But you're not starting over from zero: your existing character would still be there, with everything associated with them.
But so be it: you've made your own bed, and must sleep in it.
But if you're simply going to refuse to even try a possible solution to your problem, don't blame SE or anyone else.

Personally, having currently taken two characters all the way to endgame, another just into ShB, a fourth 1/3rd of the way into SB, and four others to level 50 while still in ARR, I've enjoyed it. Playing the old content again is like any other repeated media experience, like watching a movie a second time or reading a book you haven't read in years. And it's free.
