6.1 Samurai thoughts after getting to try them out in-game (please revert asap)

I was against these changes from the start, but after actually trying them out in-game, it actually feels way worse than I ever imagined.

I knew I wouldn't like kenki just being Shinten spam, but I didn't foresee just how empty the rotation would feel without Kaiten. Kaiten was not only a different way to spend kenki, but it was part of the rotation - with only Shinten, you just pool if you wanna and don't overcap - it feels completely removed from the rotation since kenki no longer has any interaction with your stickers.

What I didn't realized until I saw the patch notes, and was somewhat blindsided by, is the potency changes, which also feel incredibly terrible. Wanna make Midare always crit to regulate samurai dps? kk, np - but uhhh, you nerfed Midare's base potency AND took away Kaiten, so these guaranteed crits feel incredibly weak compared to what we're used to - I'm talking like 20k Midare crits when my Kasha and Gekko are critting for about 14k. I don't care if all my little attacks are a little stronger - I miss Midare feeling impactful.

But Midare isn't even the worst of it - Tenka Goken's base potency got a massive nerf AND no longer gets boosted by Kaiten AND doesn't benefit from the guaranteed crits that Midare does, so now your AOE finisher hits for like 6k.

I only started playing FFXIV last summer, but I fell in love with samurai's kit at level 80. Going into Endwalker, I was sad to see Seigan go, but getting the extra charges for Meikyo Shisui and Tsubame-gaeshi made up for it - not to mention Ogi Namikiri. Ultimately, I enjoyed 6.0 samurai even more than Shadowbringers samurai. That said, I won't be maining samurai in 6.1 - that's how egregious these changes are and how much they damage the job's gameplay. I'm not a parser - I don't know [or care] about the numbers, but imo 6.1 completely ruined the job's feel. Please revert asap.

Seconding this. I tried them now, but even without trying these new "changes" any SAM main could have told them that removing Kaiten would make for a boring job. The Tenka changes, potency nerfs and auto-crits are just insults piled on top of insults.

+1 to all of this. Made my own thread as well but it looks like we did it at basically the same time. We won't be the only ones making threads, guaranteed.

Just hitting the dummy feel terribly wrong it's crazy how could a sam player even approve that change in the first place.

Most of the people coming out of the woodworks posting against the complaints don't seem to even have SAM leveled, just an observation

Lazy changes! The devs really need to reevaluate their balancing priorities. Removing job complexity will kill FFXIV just like it did WoW

i was one of the people saying the loose of kaiten can be good on the long terms but i was too clear that the loose of potency must be given back... here i feel we did get hit by a massive nerf... i means i have a friend that hit with his blm some 36k in dh crit with his spam fire spell while my midare barely pass the 26k and midare need 8 action before be used... something feel bad in many sense.
yes we was less dependant of the rng for our damage what is cool, but right now midare feel weak and i don't even understand why i have a 1.3 sec of cast on this sort of pitifull damage. we did go from a job that can hit super hard to a job that hit like meh... i don't care that some say that the net loose of dps is 3 dps... (not %) but it feel weak and not impactfull... what is a shame is the in pvp feel super impactfull and powerfull when i feel weak in pve... wtf!

like i have said before the loose of kaiten can be good on the long terms since it will open more room for add skill that will use the kenki, but it depend if and i say if they go this way. kaiten had become a shackle to the kenki usage. but the main concern of the change the the massive loose of potency on the iaijutsu and ogi that make them feel like weak attack... honestly before i was expecting the arrival of my windows of burst... now i will not await it.

worst and that something people don't mention it... with damage like this the windows of 2 minutes will not be increase that much by the party buff... leading to people wanting less sam since the damage will be not that amazing.
i know they add to reduce a bit the potency because of the auto crit... but this auto crit only cover the loose of kaiten, yes with more critical rating the damage will increase but i don't want to be at the end of the expansion for feel strong...

another point too, with damage soo low, why keep the cast time of 1.3 second? i means you have other class that can throw more damage in one attack without this... before it was because midare and such was hitting like a truck but that not even the case anymore.

ps i hope to see more synergy between the iaijutsu and the kenki kaiten was on the weak side 1 button push for an increase of damage, why not increase the damage of the iaijutsu in function of the number of kenki skill used or like in pvp use a skill that create synergy i dunno... right now the sam feel wrong.

These changes were awful and the job is nigh unplayable now.

is not unplayable it's just feel weird and wrong... it's work but goes against the identity of the jobs... the damage of midare and ogi are weak because they did spread the damage loose in the combo. if you look for a cycle of midare we did get an increase of 140 potency in the combo while loosing 60 potency on midare. actually this 140 potency must'nt be in the combo but in midare! because that our identity as sam all our action lead to use the iaijutsu!

this exectly how i feel, i could could get over losing kaiten if the end potencies were the same, but all our big moves feel like wet noodles now it feels terrible to play.
