Job Idea: Spiritualist (Healer)

Pure Healer with a DPS Pet
Weapon: Ritual Candles, special candles set alight with ghostly flames

Entire Job Idea Overview

TL;DR version
- Necromancer/Medium who focus on summoning ghosts
- Pure Healer with a DPS pet
- Gain gauge from damaging and healing spells that is used as a cost for certain abilities
- Additionally, as you gain gauge, you gain stacks that both power your pet and are used as a cost for certain abilities
- DPS spells either place an effect on enemies or uses up that effect to buff their potency
- GCD Regens don’t have a burst heal but reduce damage taken by 5% for 9 seconds.
- Total number of buttons: 21

I've been sitting on this idea since mid ShB (before RPR and SGE were announced) and dusted it off to bring it up to EW's standards. :B
I just wanted to create a dark, more DPS-focused healer.

Pretty meh about this (goth stuff isn't my thing), but it is at least a concept with some design space.

I think it would probably be called "Medium" rather than "Spiritualist", since Spiritualists tend to have different connotations. Or maybe take from other FF jobs and call it "Invoker."

And if it's using candles as a weapon, definitely needs some fire effects. Would help differentiate from the other healers.

Pet jobs are the way of the dodo, just make the ghosties into spells.

Still feels a little bit of a mish-mash of DRK, BLM, and RPR, but I do acknowledge that it wouldn't tread on any healer design space. I especially wouldn't mind a job like this in the game if it meant I could get my light-magic DPS mage.

The funniest thing about this is that Sage is supposed to be a DPS-focused healer, but it barely has any extra DPS skills. All you do is still spam Dosis instead of having a variety of DPS skills for majority of the fight when you do DPS as a healer.

Until SE is able to design a proper healer that doesn't spam their same single target nuke skill or the same AoE skill over 100+ times over the course of a fight, I don't ever see that happening tbh.

1. I have other jobs ideas on the backburner but this is the one I was able to get to the point I could conceptualize the whole kit. Other healer ideas I've been playing with are a weather-controlling, steampunk healer that's inspired by Geomancers and X-2's Mascot as a buffing healer.

2. I went with Spiritualist because I was inspired by the IRL Spiritualism movement from back in the day.

3. Their single-target spell "combo" is based off of Will-o-the-Wisps (Ignis Fatuus is the Latin name for them).

4. I played around with the idea of the Spirit pet you summon being just a DoT and all the abilities that use Legion stacks being just normal abilities you use but I felt that the Spirit using them was more appropriate from a thematic standpoint.

5. I would be down for a light-based DPS.

While it is great to see some creative energy, I would say a definite, emphatic NO to any new healer jobs until the current jobs go through a re-work. That could include a re-work of the "pure" healer concept because I am not at all convinced that it has been as well done as it could be, or even if it should be kept at all.

also, looking over this job, it really looks like it wouldn't be any more engaging than any of the current healers and that is really the biggest problem that we have. sure it's goth and has a pet, but it looks like after a week or two with it, the shiny new job wears off.

Yeah none of it's terrible. Aside from the fact that all of our healers are very euro-centric, and it would be nice to have more variety on that front. And while there are eastern candle-burning spiritualists, I wouldn't want to tamper with your job concept because it is clearly looking to satisfy a specifically western spiritualism job fantasy.

Still, I'm not opposed to it since it does seem to fill a niche people have been wanting in a way that actually brings something new(-ish) to the table.

Yeah, although I wouldn't mind if a new healer came alongside a healing job overhaul.

Personally, I would prefer a more Yuna Monk Spade type vibe to a necro healer. But I have to admit that this concept works quite well and has an unused/unique weapon niche.

As an old school healer from other MMOs I'd much prefer they design content around us healing and supporting. I don't want to spam a DPS skill 80% of the time or new healer classes designed to appease to DPS players. I don't want a DPS pet.

As much as most people hate this - I want increased pressure to need my GCD heals and Esuna. Esuna is so rarely needed the few times it is, most healers don't use it as they literally never have.

More skills that prevent damage with Stuns like Holy. Instead of Stun maybe healers can have Paralyze for their own decaying stun duration. A GCD where I apply purposely apply the Slow, Heavy, or Silence effects actually having this matter.

I'd love a meaningful Reflect - a damage shield that also returns damage to the attacker. This would feel better to me than casting Glare while still dealing damages since I'm supporting.

I'd love a Confuse skill where I support by having the mobs turn around and hit another mob. Damage while preventing damage.

Other skills Rosa had in FF4 that aren't used here - like Dispel a Damage Up buff from a boss. Maybe a short-duration float to avoid ground AE.

I can understand being inspired by other MMOs. For example, i find the way that Esuna is actually used to be very clunky , I had a similar skill in another game , and I was able to apply that to multiple targets which was lireally a life saver in some case.
however, that doesn't mean that i want to copy those games - in this game i am typically expected to both heal and DPS and that is what keeps me engaged. If as part of a future re-design there a additional skills that incorporate heals as part of doing damage, or shields , that could be much more interesting for me. As you say, status effects could also potentially be interesting too,

This idea for a new healer job sounds nice to me, might be a lot of fun to play.
