Healers

Theres an accepted ideology in this game of "healers need to dps" and its causing and has caused a lot of problems. 1:) in any 8 player group you also have one healer and one dps spammer. This demoralizes said healer and they quit the role.
2:) even the notion of healers doing their job will get you reported or banned from the forums. Def 2021.
3:) I want to refuse my role as a dps and want party heals and self heals to make up for healer dps.
4:) your parses mean nothing when the group is dead.
5:) why even bother when 90% of you would be more useful as red Mage?
Stops wasting everyone's time and do your job or quit the role please. And when you rez, heal the person.

There is generally 1 main healer and I generally fullfill that job because I dont trust the other healer to be it. Also you generally don't need to heal much as long as the group avoids mechanics and there is no heal check going on. So doing dps is completely fine and needed during those moments of no damage. Generally the only time to focus heal is during wall to wall pulls or tanks that dont use mitigation cds.

And you're already incorrect.

Different groups play differently. Some do what you said, others have the healers share both the healing and dps load. And some hop between one and the other depending on the design of the encounter.

You're playing the wrong game. The first technique in every healer's list is an offensive spell. The objective of combat is to eliminate the enemy. Healing is secondary because damage is designed with that aspect in mind, and so it always comes out balanced around healer's power.

Healer's Job in FFXIV:

1) Assist in Eliminating the enemy.
2) Keep people alive by whatever means you have, so that they can eliminate the enemy.

To just heal is to ignore one half of your job, and it prolongs elimination of the enemy, requiring more healing to happen and also causing the group to come closer to defeat by the enemy.

You do both in this game because it is designed for you to be able to do both. In solo play you must do both. Do both.

I deeps because players like op overheal party like no tomorrow even with after the weakest AOE.
Don't worry, i too go into overheal panic mode when my cohealer dies and things go south (2-3 DPS having vuln stacks) but people need to have faith in others.

Tha vast majority do not do "both" and its become a glaringly serious problem. I'm sitting here in an 8 player with 1 tank down and half the dps down and I got a glare spammer and 1 person desperately trying to salvage the group. Explain to me how that is useful to anyone? I quit in shb because of this. Healers in 14 want to do anything but their job and it's gotten worse in ew with increased damage to players. So as a dps I want a full self sustain kit and tanka should have the same. Wanna broil all day? I want self heals all day.

The newest healer Sage heals via doing DPS, albeit small but on single bosses with avoidable mechs and Random aoe damage you can pretty much just DPS your heart out and use the instant heals and the party will be fine.

How would redesigning how healers play change anything? You would still get the people who would play badly and only press one button. Its not a class design problem, but a player one.

This is not the job or role problem, this is the player problem...... its like saying a tank that didnt do any mitigation and only doing damage rotation means the job or tank role is bad, no, that is the player's problem, also, just like you said, healer need to dps, it doesnt mean stop doing healing altogether, do the dps when you are free and healing when someone's hp is low or help mitigate when boss gonna do raid wide damage or tank buster
