What I would change from PLD [Clemecy + Requiescat]

I loved paladin since I started playing it at 5.2-ish on Shadowbringers, and this expansion has changed us so little yet so much (and for the better, too!). I only have one problem... Clemency + Requiescat.

I know it's a pitiful call for a change, but I don't like it! In Shadowbringers it had this super-powerful potency of 1200p, +600p if aimed at a party member and *1.5 if under the effects of Requiescat (making it 2700p, and yet another *1.5 if it was a crit!). I understand that it had to be nerfed when they added sustain into more convenient parts of the kit (Holy Sheltron and the Holy spells), but I find it sad that it has no interaction with Requiescat anymore.

Clemency is my favorite spell, and the one that made me choose PLD even if it doesn't see much use in higher environments. There was always this thought in my mind that I was being wasteful of a Req charge, but now it's grown too big to ignore; why would I expend a Clemency right now during my magic rotation if I'm gonna miss extra damage? And then, I can't properly use it during physical either (as before) because it interrupts combos!

I've thrown the idea around my group of friends; some agree that it's sad too, others say it might be too much healing, and one said Clemency should be removed outright (but he's a Reaper / Dragoon main so he doesn't count :cool:). I wanted to ask for further opinions here!

As for the solution - in case you would entertain the idea of changing something - I'd also like to hear yours! My proposal would be for Clemency to always Crit with a Requiescat charge: that way you give it a similar powerlevel as it had before, and also take out the possibility of heals getting too stupid provided it crits. What do you think?

At this point I’d say they should just make clemency into a 5 second recast instant cast oGCD, lower the potency to 800 (+ 400 to self when cast on a party member), while keeping the 2k mp cost and removing all interaction with requiescat.

There is no fix that will make clemency a viable move other than taking it off the GCD. PLD’s rotation has very little downtime where you can afford to throw in a clemency without feeling like you’re giving up something important. During FoF you’re likely giving up a goring blade or an atonement to use it. During requiescat you’re giving up a charge to use it. Even in the downtime it does have it is already having to drop attacks from its rotation to keep alignment without throwing an extra GCD into the mix.

Conversely, PLD has a LOT of room to play with oGCDs, having only 2 oGCD attacks, FoF and requiescat and it’s defensive cooldowns. It also now has more mp to play with than ever since the cost reduction on its holy spells and nothing really worth spending it on. Being able to weave clemency would see it get a lot more use and give PLD a resource to manage much like DRK’s edge of shadow but for healing.

Clemency is meant for solo play, I wouldn't want any means to incentivize it's use aside from making it an OGCD.

Clemency is meant for when sacrificing DPS for survival is worth it. The playerbase has an unhealty obsession with wanting every single button to be part of regular rotation, it's fine to have situational skills.

I had an AST (at lvl 90) who was struggling to keep me up. I had to cast Clemency numerous times that run or I'd have been dead multiple times.

This from a tenacity tank for dungeons who takes 10% less damage while constantly rotating defensive CD's.

As a PLD main, I LOVED Clemency when it was boosted by the effects of Requiescat. They never should have taken 200 potency and the 50% increase away. Yes, people love to argue that it's because of all the healing on our skills right now. We have new self heals on Holy Sheltron and Holy Spirit/Circle and they are great! We also have some healing we can give to others with Intervention and Divine Veil. With the new MP changes we have excess MP to use, but the only thing we can do with it is spam Clemency. I like this change since it give me the ability to heal after my MP combo.

However, healing potency went up across the board for healers so why was PLD the only one nerfed instead? It's not like Clemency is a DPS buff at all. It hurts our DPS so if we are using it there must be a reason for it. Gone are the days where the party gets messed up in a raid where one healer died and the other healer is hanging on by a thread and I swoop in with my super 50% increased heal to save the game and ruin my own DPS because of it. Now Clemency still takes the Requiscat stack and give us nothing in return except making it instant cast which doesn't help that much anyway and just ruins our DPS. I've had plenty of dungeon runs where a healer died and because of Requiscat 50% increase, I was able to keep both DPS and myself alive in the past. Taking away the 50% was bad enough, but they had no reason to take the 200 potency away as well.

What annoys me is that people like to bring up that PLD is the utility tank so their DPS should suck to make up for me. This is a lie people keep shouting. PLD does not have any more utility than other tanks;

We have Cover which has such a short range on it that it's almost impossible to put on someone unless it's planned with a static group for raid cheese. We can't even use it for a majority of dungeon bosses since the bosses are so big that Cover will not reach the healer (which is most likely the person you'll be trying to save) if something goes wrong.

We have Passage of Arms. Really cool looking and sounds like a great skill, but you will never use this skill outside of raids due to the DPS that will happen unless you REALLY screwed up and pulled to much in a Fate or dungeon and that extra blocking saves you. I'm not even sure if I have even done this 10 times since we got the skill. Heck, that are a LOT of raid where it straight up just doesn't even work due to how they programmed the attacks which makes the skill flashy AND useless.

We have Divine Veil. Nice skill, but why is PLD the only one that has a bullshit heal gate on it to activate? No other tank has to put up with this and most of the times I use it, I have to cost Clemency on myself to get it off (due to how most healers just throw shields on me which DOESN'T ACTIVE THE ABILITY!!!) which ruins my DPS and due to the cast time of Clemency, I might not have made it in time to save the people I was trying to use the skill for. PLD is the ONLY tank to not get any benefit from using their group protect, yet it's the only one with a requirement on it. Currently WAR now has a better group protect than PLD does. They block 15% [EDIT: The 15% is based on the individuals HP and not the tanks. It's easy to miss this as the tool tip doesn't exactly say it] compared to PLD's 10% and they also heal with 300 potency while the PLD does 400. Someone at SE really loves WAR and hates PLD because they are always trying to give WAR things they shouldn't have. A self heal on the WAR is one thing, but now they are healing others too? The hell?

They need to give us back our 200 potency and 50% increased heals. If people want to keep shouting that the PLD is a utility tank, make it happen and stop giving other tanks similar skills that don't make sense (like WAR healing others). PLD is always getting screwed one way or another and SE doesn't act to fix them. I've been a PLD main since 2.0. I was around when our only aoe was Flash, we didn't get tank stance till level 40, we still had Convalescence, and we couldn't block magic till 40. I'm tired of my job always getting screwed and SE just not caring.

You'd sacrifice it to keep yourself or the party up. Clemency is there not to be used always, but is there for emergencies and is still 1000000000000% better than shield bash. Like really we should be talking about removing shield bash or reworking it ever since Low Blow was given to every tank.

Or making Cover good again so PLD's can have "utility" that actually makes a difference on it's own to justify our lower DPS.
