Can't get into your house? Blame AFK bypassers

While it's not a huge inconvenience a lot of the time, I've spent upwards of 15 minutes repeatedly trying to enter my home, unable to.


Why? Because more and more people are sitting AFK in their houses, using a multitude of methods to bypass the AFK timer. Not only are they blocking off housing, they're taking up significant space on the server when they could be kicked off and allow someone else to actually play the game.

Do you have any proof that someone being afk in their house contributes any more to this problem than someone being afk in a corner in Sharlayan? Genuinely asking. I'm not understanding the difference.

And how do you know, definitively, that is the cause?

If the congestion was in Sharlayan, you would get an error upon entering Sharlayan. As the congestion is from too many people in housing, the error is received upon entering housing.


This is the same as when too many people flood a zone for hunts and it gets locked off.

Right, but people dodging AFK would have nothing to gain from being in their house vs. being anywhere else. So isn't it just as likely to be some activity that's actually related to housing that's causing tons of people to be in there?

They dodge the risk of doing so in a public area and getting reported by other players for suspected automation. The people breaking ToS aren't typically going to do it in broad daylight.

Because they can make their house private and afk without anyone being able to see. Those that do t have housing probably use inn rooms, which you can also be locked out of BTW

I guess that could be right. I mean, you can't actually report people for anything other than RMT activity and nothing's going to happen to them anyway, but I could buy that they might be operating by this logic. I can't think of any activity that would be popular inside houses at expansion launch anyway, I just couldn't think of a reason the dodgers would go there specifically either.

Alright, looks like we need to have random server restarts, afk kick timer set to 2 minutes, and a 3 hour playtime allotment. After this, the problems should be solved!
