Why can't we all have a House?

LOTRO, New World are just a few mmos to name that have unlimited housing. Why does this game punish 99% of players with no housing spaces and further punish you if you get a house if you don't sub or a month by losing it...

It's 2021, the game is doing very well and I'm sure with their cash shop which was originally made to apparently add more housing areas money is not an issue... So why do they disrespect their players soo much? I've played since 1.0 and only every once been able to find and buy a house and then I couldn't sub for a few months and lost it.

Lotro just adds new housing districts when one is full, ffxiv is using the exact same housing system as lotro, so why can it not expand?

Well you could be using the search function and you could find out from all other 1000 threads on this subject.

But tl dr is basically old engine, systems, servers and developers own view on housing is partially reason to why we don't have instanced housing.

I keep seeing people bringing up newer games done it a different way but it's not comparable when we got the sytem 8 years ago and not even sure it's technically feasable with the current engine. I mean we can't even get higher outdoor item limit or indoor.

The way to make it instanced (if they even want that) is a complete overhaul to both sytem and most likely the game engine that limits them in various ways.

The game can't expand dynamically due to hardware limitation (need more servers) so it more a question of maintenance costs, invest in new servers (which is nearly impossible right now due to semi-conductor shortages).

I can't speak to New World, but Lotro can add more neighborhoods now b/c it has had so much shrinkage of playerbase over the years. They used ot have more neighborhoods, then they had less cus less players, and thus they now have room to add more as needed, cus there aren't at peak capacity atm. I remember, back when it was at its peak player numbers (I played since launch in 2008), that housing was an issue exactly like it is now in FF14. They hit neighborhood capacity and you had to wait till someone went into escrow due to not logging in to pay their property fees before their plot went on the market again. And, oh yeah, there were/are property fees. And no apartments. At least there weren't as of 2014 or so, which is the last time I really played.

I can only hope that *someday* in the next 10 years that they finally either add enough houses or that Island Sanctuary allows us some degree of customization with exterior housing items.

I can't even recommend people to get an apartment, because on Balmung they're already sold out! This isn't sustainable long term especially with the population surge we're experiencing. If they're going to "spare no expense" they need to get this situation under control.

Like others have said, it has to do with the old engine. The closest we have is Apartments at this point, which, to be honest, are fairly sweet.

I seem to recall they had actually planned to get more wards up during some stretch of the pandemic, but covid restrictions kept them from getting the servers installed. (Not sure the actual terms used and its been a while). For what it's worth, restrictions seem to be loosening their grasp at least on the East Coast in the USA.

Will admit, housing is a huge aspect of MMORPGs to me, and the subject has been furiously volatile for a while for XIV, and a lot of people feel their opinion is the "right" one and this is greatly in part due to what seems like developer cold shoulder. They have actually stated a few times things that seem to go against what we have going on today, which also leads to confusion to the average player that does not spend time researching the subject.

Because it's much easier to keep delaying a potential real fix by adding a couple of wards every X years than trying to rework the system

I'm hopeful that we'll see a complete engine overhaul with an actual solution to this and other problems with 7.0

I just got into a debate with someone about this.

He was all like, The community is amazing, and even Yoshi P says go play other games and take a break. It is very casual game. I'm like... Ok, counter that point. Housing, what is casual about it?

Well you don't need a house...Ok well you don't need glam but it makes the game more enjoyable does it not?

And it forces you to keep paying/playing as well. Everything Yoshi P says, I can point to housing and call him out on it.


This housing system design is everything that he claims he does not want this game to be.

Honestly if all people want is an apartment and all the apartments are taken, you could, you know, join a Free Company with their own Housing. As the Apartment options for FC's is the same with one exception, if you leave or are kicked from an FC (for probable cause I would hope) its yours. As for houses.. well.. just like in RL, not everybody who wants a house can buy or find one available. Keep in mind players come and go from FFXIV all the time and eventually those that leave that had houses will eventually lose those plots if they don't log in plus, we are getting more with EW (sure, they'll probably go fast) but keep in mind many players will also be vacating their current plots to take up residence in the new area.
