Key Items bag space?

I don’t get this, there seem to be a good number of inventory slots in the Key Items tab that seem to be completely inaccessible. I never have more than 5 or 6 actual items in there, but can’t seem to move any items there. How did it ever get to be like this, or am I missing something?

Key items are only used for items needed for quests. Normal items can't be put there.

You have 2 retainers giving you 350 extra slots, a chocobo saddlebag which gives you 140 extra slots, a glamour dresser which gives you 400 gear slots and an armoire for achievement gear and you can increase your subscription for more retainers and another saddle bag.

You can get almost every item again. Most of them are easy to get with a small amount of grinding or from buying it off the market board or a calamity salvager if it's a quest reward, so you don't need to worry about deleting most items.

Yes I am aware of the various ways of increasing storage, I was concerned about "immediate" storage. Over "there" one can craft items no matter where the mats were stored, here they have to be in you immediate inventory. Yes I know what Key items are, the point was that there are a very, very limited number of such (at least that I have)... so why waste so many bag slots?

Seems a design flaw to me, I was just trying to see if there was any "excuse" for it or why it can't be changed.

You can carry as many key items as you ever will need, and they don't take up any bag slots. It looks like they do, but that is mostly just an artifact of how they designed the UI.
If the devs really wanted to they could probably cut away the whole second page of key item slots from the UI, and this would .... change nothing at all except how it looks on the screen. It would certainly not free up places that could be used for your normal inventory.
