Does FF14 have the worst Inventory Systems in the MMO Market?
To clarify a bit and give in the Feedback from my point of few:
-FF14 has an old Inventory System that needs a dire rework/restructure
-I know at least 3 people (me included) that spend a significant amount of time, not just “cleaning” their inventory and space , but sorting it out and spending a lot of time just staring at their inventory/chocobo saddlebags and their retainers. So Once a week for some people in ff14 it is the “cleanday”
-You can´t be spontaneous about things like , Gathering and Crafting , because you need to have a lot of place in your inventory to manage the given Items, example try doing the “ocean fishing” that can be fun, with a full Inventory. (A Crafterbag/Gatherebag or Fishing Bag would be nice but I guess there may be even nicer options to make it more convenient for the player, I am not a dev)
-Retainers are Outdated and make it more complex then needed. (in my humble beginnings in ff14 I thought Retainers were NPC´s to make the world more alive and make you feel like you are a Hero , and they take care of your inventory management, but it kinda was the other way around)
Don´t get me wrong , from a RP perspective, I love the Idea of a Retainer doing things for me, selling my stuff, etc. But I hate spending Hours , organizing items between them and me and other inventory slots/glamourdresser
-Glamoursystem, Oh Boy, I started this game and very early people warned me to not get into Glamour, because I will get angry at the whole system (back then I didn´t know what they meant)
The Advertisement tells me that I can play 1 Char and do all the jobs with the Avatar.
Inventory wise with 1 Combatjob, I did very fast reach my limit for the glamour dresser with 1 single combat job. 400 places were filled very fast , so I sorted everything out that was “ugly” (but thumbs up to square most of the pieces aren´t really ugly , they are in fact nicely done) ok so only the nice things are there for 1 job , but oh boy what now, so many sets , so many stuff and Retainers are being the “glamour dresser 2.0”. I do not intend to swap the items on and off between them all the time if I feel I want to swap the looks of my character.
Btw we are still at 1 job.

So, I finished the quests and the msq with my Tank main , thought I would spice it up with a Healer to level up. I love to have a Avatar that looks nice and has decent glamours, but this game is so disturbingly restrictive in this matter.
Honestly, if there would be a System to collect Glams similar to *heretical voice*:”the transmog system in wow” , even If Yoshi p told the people themselves he took some ideas from wow, because they are industry standards at this point, I would farm the Hell out of all the given Content , just to get all glams for all job ready. Not because if would like the jobs , but because I would be curious how things would look alike and what nice Fashion my char could wear.
But at the moment it feels more like, what the people told me back then ”Don´t even try to glam, you will get angry” and yes that is true.
Glamourplates and the amount of them are a joke to People that love to play around with it. To go into detail: How many Jobs are currently available? How many different Glams are available for each Job?
-Housing items and Housing? I am not going into Detail with this can of worms, because the War of Housing and the things people do to be a part of that in this game is ludicrous. (but the point still stands , the housing items are still somewhere in my inventory and there is no “housingbag” or a “bank” , just your retainer/saddlebag/standard inventory) -I loved and enjoyed Housing in Wildstar, because it was easy and accessible for everyone, but in ff14 you have to literally wage war against People to get a House(or more).
-Gathering and Crafting items, I leveled up Culinarian and Fisher, and I was short on inventory place most of the time , but it must be literal Hell for People that are doing job to make things that don´t stack to the size of 999.
-Forcing People to get more Retainers , yes I heared from every real “Crafter” that they have maxed out the Count of the monthly rentable Retainers. (Getting vibes from 1.0 when they thought they could get away with it).Corporate Greed is one thing, Corporate Pride another , but trying to simply bleed the loyal community out of their money, because they are still Fans of the Franchise. Is for me just an Insult.
-Don´t “make the problem/accept the problem and sell the Solution” (as shown in the example with the Retainers , “if” this is the Solution , then it is the worst possible existent one, that is still extremely timeconsuming , inconvenient and wastes players time)
I really do like this game ,as most of the players of this game I also am passionate about it and want it to grow and be successfull but yeah it´s 2021 and the globe is spinning and doesn´t stand still, Progress in terms of Design, looks different.
Please , let us enjoy, farm and glam our gear for each different job. This is a Time i would like to spend in the game , instead of using (like some people) Excelsheets to organize the Retainer Iventory and playing Warehouse Simulator. -

I'd love to spend that time actually playing the game instead, but instead I'm actually logging in less and less and for shorter sessions because my crammed inventories disincentivizes me from playing.

Completely agree here. The system needs to be changed so that it resembles the system used in WoW and ESO, where a database of all gear appearances are collectable, gear "looks" are unlocked as you loot them and applying glamours can be done easily from a type of "catalogue" window in the same way. There is so much gear in this game it needs to be managed better. I am canceling my sub until this is upgraded because my inventory is too full of gear that I want to keep for glamours, it is an organizational nightmare that has created a tense experience for me, where I have to perform the chore of managing inventory almost every time I do something that gives me gear as a reward, after every dungeon or raid etc ...
The developers of WoW and ESO realized that the system was too convoluted and developed these gear systems as a result and as far as I can tell, FFXIV has even more gear than these other MMO's, it's well overdue.
