Can npcs change clothes like we can due to game mechanics?

There's only two npcs that I can think of that get a different outfit look. One is Giaus during Prae, but that seemed more like a magictech thing where his armor gained a gold plating. The other is Estinien. When he is waiting for Giaus out in the streets of the Garlean capital he's in travel clothes. Yet the next time we see him he's in his armor. When he gives us his report he is back in his travel clothes. The change back into travel clothes can be waved away with an oh he must have stopped somewhere and changed. Meanwhile the first one is why I ask the question in my title as he clearly doesn't have anything that looks like it could hold heavy spikey dragoon armor.

Then there is the 1st time he meets Giaus where he's in armor, but again he could have found somewhere to change. I'm also fairly sure he left Kugane in travel clothes, but he did take a boat so once more it'd be easy to assume he just found a spot to change.

I seem to remember a number of characters changing clothes with the "job switch" animation, such as Godbert. So, yes?

Veloran has the right of it. Other characters can and do switch from more to less clothing, like Godbert does in the Hildibrand line. Same animation and everything.

That may be a case but they also go out of their way to keep from showing other NPCs changing clothes like when Tataru made Alphinaud leave the room when she was giving Y'sthola her new clothes in Heavensward. Then again Alphinaud had the full view of her when they brought her out of the lifestream.

Also and I know this is from a trailer and can most likely be taken with a grain of Salt, they even show the WoL starting to take their armor off piece by piece before donning the Dragoon gear... but also in SHB trailer they show him switching like we do in the game... I honestly think its however the Devs decide at the time >.<

The clothes weren't in a gearset for them yet when they were changing in those scenes :3c

Wait since when could we use logic in a fantasy game setting =P... nah I figured that may be a possibility, just wanted to point out those few things ^_^

Idk man Godbert for many isn't fully part of the serious parts of the game so him being able to change like that tends to be taken as a grain of salt. Also the WoL more than once has physical changed clothes during a cs done during a black screen where we've heard the putting on clothes sound. I just couldn't at the time remember any other npc that didn't change off screen without the putting on clothes sound. If I hadn't been following someone who was going through the ShB storyline recently I probably wouldn't have probably thought about this.
