Oddities about Ascians I've noticed.

Sorry if either of these two things have been answered in other threads.

One of the things that have struck me as odd is when Emet says when we enter Ratika for the first time is something like even though we're in the shade of the trees he can still feel the harshness of the light. And that he hopes we get to a more shaded area as he won't do so well if he's made to stay in it for a long time. Now, sure it could just be him talking about the constant sun light but I took it as though because the sky is just a huge blanket of light aether that maybe it effects him like sun light would a vampire. You know your normal non twilight types. Instead of he's more susceptible to heatstroke than everyone else.

The other is if they take on characteristics of those whose bodies they possess. If they do then that is a good reason why Fandaniel is psychotic. If not then I do wonder if he's always been this crazy. Concerning he's just a shard and having to be raised up from time to time. If he has always been coocoo then um that puts into question about the convocation sanity before the calamity that ended up with the summoning of Zodiark.

Regarding the first point, his aversion to Light is indeed vampire-like, due to the fact the primal he was tempered by was aspected to Darkness, and Zodiark's essence has seeped into him. We don't really get much else on this because it's the only time we 'accompany' an Ascian.

As for point two, it seems to be a bit of both. According to the 'Ere Our Curtain Falls' short story, Emet needed to 'wash away' the persona of Solus while he was 'resting'. Either this is meant in the literal sense, and Solus's psyche atherially affected Emet, or metaphorically, in which Emet was getting out of the act. Either way, while there may be some influence by his choice of body, Fandaniel himself seems to be more inherently psychotic and sociopathic, so any traits 'inherited' from Asahi would only accentuate what was already there. As for whether or not the original Fandaniel was just as crazy, I believe not, it seems more like that it is just this iteration has the problem with his 'moldering memory', and each incarnation of the Sundered Ascians, though having their memories 'restored' secondhand, can have quite different personalities from their 'original selves'. Or at least that is how I am interpreting it.

It is implied the Light-saturated First does sap some degree of Emet-Selch's vitality while he's in the Light-plagued regions. Or at least he finds it uncomfortable. Why isn't explained, but presumably it is linked to his servitude to / tempering by Zodiark.

Based on how Elidibus takes on some of Zenos' personality while possessing him, it can be implied that there is some sort of impact a host body has on an Ascian. That said I'm more inclined to believe that Fandaniel's issues are a consequence of giving a mortal the memories and power of an Ancient, though Asahi's personality might have some influence.

Well, it's told to us in our first visit to Ahm Araeng that the light doesn't provide any means of heat, because it still gets freezing when it's supposed to be night. It's also linked to the afflicted and the irreversibility of their change into Sineaters. So I assume that being in the light on The First, the special light weather present in all zones with a Light Warden still living, constantly tugs at a person's aetheric equilibrium, nudging it towards the umbral aspect. Emet-selch feels this keenly, because he is almost entirely astrally aspected, being tempered by Zodiark as others already said.

As for the host bodies affecting the Ascians and their personalities … ehh. I don't think it really affects them too much. When Elidibus possesses Zenos, he doesn't take on any of Zenos's personality. He plans and acts like himself, pretty much at all times. Same thing with Thancred and Lahabrea.

Since they do acquire all knowledge and skills that their hosts have though, they do get to know what the person they are in is like, so that they may act accordingly. At least, that's what seems to be the case.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Sometimes I get in a hurry.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who not only picked that up, but also thought of it in that way. Sadly I don't think we'll ever get an explanation. The only other time we see something hurt someone or make them uncomfortable is when Ryne and the WoL get that water blessing from Runar.

This does give some weight to another theory of mine in that the shards are like a PH scale and that each shard has their own ph scale. In that the 1st obviously is closer to the light and the 13th darkness. Along with both and light and darkness seeping into everything.

Thus the reason why on the 1st Ardbert and friends found it very easy to defeat darkness and why those of the 13th had to use auracite.

So, we're guessing that Asahi wasn't a shard of Fandaniel and one of those rare instances where they slapped the memory of them into Aahi's body along with possible personality seeping. Kind of wished we could have seen a little more in how the Ascians behaved over the years or even during the earlier parts of the game to see if there really is any or if this was a botched raising.

I don't think Asahi was raised at all.

As I'm understanding it, the raising process turns a living human with a human soul into a human with an Ascian soul. That soul can then survive the death of its body and go on to possess another one.

Asahi isn't there any more. He was killed by Yotsuyu, and his body was free for the taking. Fandaniel doesn't talk like he is/was Asahi but that it was a convenient role for him to step into.

I didn't mean it to sound that while Asahi was alive that he was raised, but that Fandaiel wasn't a shard of Fandaniel and then popped into an Asahi meat suit. This resulting in partly why he seems to be unhinged. With maybe a little bit of any trace of Asahi's personality seeping through.

Course after having recently seen someone who just got to the Zenos entering the throne room and saying that even though Elidibus's mimicking of him was good he wasn't ever one to care about rumors or something bit throws that into question. The personality part.
