PS5

I'm sorry if this been asked but will FFXIV be ported to the ps5?

PS5 will be backwards compatible with 99% of PS4 games, so chances are you'll be able to play FFXIV on the PS5 right off the bat.
It wouldn't be any better optimised, but it would be able to utilise the SSD and quicker processing power to cut down load times.

If or When they decided to actually make a PS5 version of FFXIV we don't know, and probably won't be right away. We won't actually see any overall benefit to it until they phase out PS4 support though, which will likely be a couple years after that, whenever it is.

Assuming they phase out PS4 support at all... PS3 to PS4 was a matter of having to re-code the game to make it work since the system wasn't backwards compatible. But at this point if the game can play as-is on PS5, and the fact that the system specs of the PS4 exceed the minimum requirements for the game, and therefore aren't holding back future development, it's possible they never stop supporting it, or that they just continue on developing it as a PS4 game that is playable on PS5

That being said, there's no official word from Square regarding this (it's kind of too soon for them to say really) and Sony is still testing the library of games to see which games do and do not work, but they said they expect the "overwhelming majority" of games to work. I am curious about this 99% number people keep using though... I haven't seen any numbers from Sony to know it will be that high...

They’ve stated previously that they are hesitant to raise minimum requirements because an increase would cut many of the lower end pc players out of the ability to play which could cause a massive revenue decrease.

Which I know this thread will eventually turn into “Ps4 is holding FFXIV back reeeeeeee” but.. its not.. low end pc users are. So figure I get that out there now.

Yup, they've stated they want the game to be accessible to people, and are keeping the requirements, at least for now, as they are so people on more kinds of PCs can continue to play the game. Basically at this point it's even been confirmed by developers that PlayStation is not holding back the game.

It's extremely likely the answer is yes, but nothing confirmed yet.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the new Xbox getting some love from FFXIV.
