Monk Animations.

Mnk has some of the most boring looking attacks and Effects in the game.
Bootshine, twin snakes, true strike and snap punch all look boring as heck and due the fact mnk basically gets no new attacking skills in their main combo, Seeing these boring attacks makes it way more apparent.
And the sad part is some of mnk coolest looking attacks we almost never use.
Tornado kick and six sided star.

I'm not gonna rant about how much mnk needs a rework, but how about getting the mch overheat treatment where when mnk gets to greased lightning 4, their attack animations changes to something more updated and cooler to look at.

With how much mnk gets the short end of the stick every expansion while the other melees (mainly dragoon) gets new toys to ACTUALLY use. Don't think this is too much to ask for.

I feel like their auras are there to hide the lame animations like rain hiding crappy CGI in a movie.
I def agree, monk visually needs an overhaul just as badly as it mechanically does.

Its whole deal is hand to hand fighting. It's got some of the coolest animations in the game. I mean, I could understand why you'd be tired of seeing them, but every job from ARR has had the same baseline GCDs for 6~7 years. How much are you really expecting to spice up martial arts punches?

I mean, to me, they may not be cherry blossom slinging over the top animations, but all the skills you've said are boring, I think are cool with cool sound effects.

I'd much prefer an actual rework to MNK's big quest skills like Tornado Kick, so that I'll actually use the dang thing lol.

I can see where you're coming from, and I respect it, but real martial arts just doesn't LOOK dynamic. In real fighting the movements are very efficient.
I'd much prefer something cartoony and exaggerated so what I'm doing actually looks and feels dynamic.

Maybe a bit cliche but if we're going for ideas to spice up monk I'd just go full anime blink step dragon ball z, for the higher ranks (already has a few beam attacks :D).

Like some sort of new mechanic that consumes 5 chakra, can only be used at 4 greased lightning- freezes greased lightning (at four stacks, tornado kick can be used as an ogcd and wont consume the stacks although may need a longer recast depending on how long this thing lasts). The monk erupts in energy, super sayian rocks raising from the ground, heat waves coming from their body, ruptures in the air occasionally.

All attacks gain range in the sense that if within range the monk will blink step into range from position, and all attacks gain shock waves (pulses of intense energy at the impact of each animation, visually some attacks may have multiple waves- though the damage will remain balanced), increasing the damage of each move (type of visual shock wave based on type of attack, single or aoe). Using Forbidden Chakra / Enlightenment increases duration of the move, up to a maximum.

Shoulder tackle is replaced with step, which moves you to the closest positional you're currently not in (has range too). Meaning if you're behind the enemy it'll move you to the closest 'side' of the target enemy (or if you're on a side it'll move you to the back, if you're in the front it'll move you to the side). Step has a low cooldown that can be oGCD weaved between other moves.

Perhaps some finale move like Confiteor, that closes off the stance. Maybe a very stylized and exaggerated Buddha palm attack. Puts monk into fists of fire, temporarily locking wind (will have 3 stacks of lightning at max duration at end). Anatman can be used to hold form, perhaps also change anatman so the timer will still tick if you're moving around but the spell wont cancel- so you could reposition and then stop for it to halt everything again (until you attack which will still cancel it).

Although to be fair I wouldn't consider monk my main or even secondary so. . . Just thoughts coming from the side lol. Pinch or pound of salt recommended :3.

But you hardly even play monk, we can get jobs to level 80 now, but your mnk is still at level 60, literally HW level cap.
It's pretty clear why you're still ok with mnk, if I hardly played a job I wouldn't really care about what their animations look like as well or still think its fine even though they had the same rotation since 2.0

You really can't imagine way better hand to hand combat animations? It's probably the most flexible in terms of making something really cool, as much as samurai and ninja.

Have you seen mch? they turned mch boring normal shooting animations to some of the coolest animations in the game and all they're doing is shooting a gun.
If anything, gun jobs are why less flexible than a martial arts jobs in terms of animations.

Have you never seen anime?
Mnk already crossed the line of "over the top" since they added elixir field/kamehameha and the hadouken, they might as well double down on that.

Mnk is pass the point of having down to earth, authentic martial art attacks.

I just wish they made up their minds about the style of martial arts we're using. As is, based on animations, we're using a hodgepodge mix of pugilism, kung fu, and tai chi, with maybe some notes of sanda? I know its acknowledged in the lore... but I dearly miss some consistency in animations.

Seeing how pugilist/monk has some references to Jojo (Hamon's name itself, monk posing in some skills) and Chakra being something akin to spiritual cultivation in Chinese Wuxia/Xianxia genres as well as the concept of 'Ki' (except this borderline starts approaching Nin), there's a lot of ways monks can expand animation wise and gameplay wise. Since monks already obtained all possible 'skills' from the sects themselves by SB, I wouldn't be surprised if Monks started heading to the direction of cultivating chakra to the point where the endgoal is their body and mind attaining immortality as that's a very common rpg element for monks to focus on. I honestly thought monks would develop in this direction this expansion since a main theme of ShB is survival - and cultivating chakra to gain more power towards developing an immortal body would be a good way to go about this and skills obtained would be focused towards expending the chakra gauge.

Personally, I do like seeing Bootshine since it goes back to the monk's pugilist roots. Besides Snap punch (imo lacks the impact of the punch), I do think monks have the best animations so far in terms of the skills being focused on the character itself - Have you seen other jobs have an animation like Fist of Wind & Elixir Field? It's very aesthetically pleasing to see and use. The skills give that nice martial arts touch where simplicity, practicality and flow are emphasized. Gameplay itself is another story though. It really doesn't help monk to have Six Sided Star, and Tornado Kick to have good animations but be locked away since they're only used in specific situations rather than part of the usual rotation. To a lesser extent, I'd also include Forbidden Chakra here too because monks have to manually charge 5 chakra on the GCD before lv 62 after using it once while in combat.

Ah, wrong pitch, salesman. I have Monk at 80 on an alt and raided through Eden with it last tier. I also raided with it some during Sigmascape. It's not my first choice, but I've been playing Monk at max level since 2.1 during every expansion.

Still. I stand by my point that mnk needs some better looking animations and I know you don't have THAT much of a lack of imagination you really can't think how they can spice of mnk Main combo. A job that uses their hands, feet and even their body (until they got rid of steel peak...for no reason) as a weapon.

Mnk is the least played job and there is a reason why it is.
It's not a fun job, on top of having a visually boring main combo which you're doing 90% of the time since SE decided to get rid of mnk's steel peak and howling fist so its not much break up of seeing these combo's.

Even when mnk was OP it was still the least played. Every Job usage poll Mnk is the lowest, why is that? the job isn't hard to play like how mch was and it damage was amazing.

Imo, its just because the job is boring and there is nothing exciting going for it and when it does get something cool looking, we can't even use it.
There is a reason why Late SB mnk was the best mnk, we could finally use one of coolest looking skills TK and actually shake up mnk boring a** rotation.

I know that our community in the NA(at least the vocal minority) likes down to earth low key animations, and always rags on the over the top on but honestly the silent majority kinda says other wise.
