Question about the first

There should be remnants of the original world pre-sundering on all of the shards, and they'd be on the Source as well weren't it for the 7 Calamities destroying pretty much everything from that time. The shards don't have calamities, if a massively disastrous event hits a shard it's either a flood or a rejoining, both essentially meaning the end of that world.

^This pretty much. When the Shards split from the Source the Sundering basically resulted in a replication of everything (hence the other term 'reflection'), however any pre Sundering/Terminus remnant on the Source has almost certainly been obliterated over the past 12000 years and succesive Calamities (Y'shtola actually states this at the Forgotten Walls in The Tempest).

Remember, even ruins from pre Sixth Calamity that was nearly 2000 years ago are almost non existant, and as far as known virtually nothing from before the Third Astral Era (aka, anything pre Allagan Empire) even exists anymore.

So alas, don't expect to see anything remotely like Amaurot left on the Source I'm afraid.

Shards yes, Source no.

One of the things discussed when first finding Amaurotine ruins is the lack of anything similar on the Source; Y'shtola theorizes that it's a consequence of the Calamities causing mass destruction on the Source (where they're from), wiping away any trace of the Ancients. Given as the shards never experienced these catastrophes, any remaining should have Amaurotine ruins as well.

Which makes me wonder how much of the recreation of Aumarot (not just the dungeon) was already preexisting. IE did Emet-Selch recreate only the people and maybe restored some building or did he create the whole thing from scratch

He layered an illusion on top of the already existing ruins. Thancred mentions that he tried to sneak in through a window into the building Emet was hiding in but that the window was sealed shut, possibly by junk growing on it for years.

Anamnesis Aynder is far away from Emet’s illusion magicked Amaurot yet it’s still standing, albeit covered in coral. I’d imagine Amaurot looks the same beneath the illusion.

I believe we see a bit of the true state of the ruins in the Dying Gasp. Those structures in the background are clearly destroyed tall buildings.

Would it not be possible for the ruins of Amaurot to exist underwater on the Source and merely undiscovered since the Ocean is a massive place and hard to reach in many, many places? Water does a good job of cushioning ruins against a calamity and the Kojin are not numerous enough to explore the entire ocean floor of Hydaelyn.

Considering the writers had Y'shtola herself say that the ruins are probably destroyed on the Source, they will probably never come up in the story unless a different writer comes in or they do an about-face.
