Miqo'te 'H' sounds

So, I had this realisation that's been eating away at me ever since. We know from the naming conventions post that Miqos use H's in their names to represent a hissing sound that only they are able to pronounce - other races omit it when saying their names - Vhani would be pronounced more like Vani, etc

That made me wonder... is every instance of the H like that? What about 'ch' sounds and 'sh' sounds?? Is Nashu... actually referred to as Nasu by everyone? Do Miqos typically not pronounce normal H sounds?

I'd assume an 'h' that isn't part of the sh/ch combo would be the only ones affected. The same naming conventions do list a name with sh (Pahsh) and only have the first 'h' marked

Considering we’ve already heard Y’shtola’s name being pronounced by voice actors with an “sh” sound I think it’s just solo “h” that’s silent.

I don't think the 'h' in Raha is supposed to be hissed. It doesn't really fit the pattern of where they put in the extra H's.

I assume the letter is being used both for its normal sounds and hissing - a bit like C can represent either a K or S sound.

Based on the examples given, it looks like unpronounced (by others) aitches, those "h" sounds the Miqo'te can do, are ones that come before or after a consonant that isn't s or c. Maybe t, but I don't know off the top of my head any Miqo'te names that use ht or th that don't also have s before the h anyway (like Y'shtola).

Looking at the naming conventions document, it does specifically say "extra aitches" are silent, and not all of them. It also specifies that "O’raha would be pronounced “o-RA-ha”", note the pronounced H.

I've also realised that to check (or at least get a different estimate of) the pronounciation for individual names, you can use Garland Tools - look up the character then switch to Japanese mode to see their name written in katakana.

Raha is also written as RAHA in katakana. Nashu is NASHU. Shtola is SHUTORA but Mhitra is MITORA with a silent 'h'.

It looks like H is indeed a normally-pronounced sound separate to the hiss.

I think some might get applied a bit randomly, or spelt inconsistenly each time they're translated - eg. Shtah, Stah and Sthah (from the male forename list, a levequest client's surname and the female surname list, respectively) could all be variations of what should be the same name. Or one might be a typo.
