Is their issue with Materia?

I just went through 160 Craftsman Command LV VII for a 4th meld on ONE TOOL. None took whatsoever. That's days and hrs of gathering down the toilet. Did SE fubbard the script for melding? For the 7% on slotting a 4th materia may as well be 0% chance. :mad:

No, just RNG at its finest. I loathe overmelding, I do it, but it's horrible.

I never go past a certain point, and I never will as there's no need to. 7% means 7% per try and that's sh*tty odds. otoh last week I did my CP overmelds and got 10 out of 15 tries at 17%, RNG at its finest indeed..

you are the one who chose to do that, use lower rank materia for overmelding next time.

And crafting is currently so easy that you do not need a single VIII or VII materia melded.

I will only use VIII's on the initial meld then usually VI's or V's to over meld due to it being way less expensive. I remember having to use about 40 VII's of direct hit before one worked at 10% which was not as bad as yours but it can be rough. I just don't see the worth for those extra points with the VII's when it comes to crafting melds.

At one stage in SB i remember counting how many materia i was burning through trying to hit an optimum overmeld, and adding up the value of them. I basically lit something like 12mil gil on fire. I no longer care about perfect melds, and wont unless the game forces me to with stat demands.

Yeah, that bites hard. It would be nice if we could get a bonus to melding in the form of a consumable or automatic bonus if you have a certain craft/control or above, but I won't hold my breath on them changing that any time soon.

I have a personal rule that I never meld the top two materia past the first 2 or 3 slots unless I REALLY can't avoid it or it's in such abundance that I'm willing to take the hit if rngesus decides to get nasty. The rest I will get as close as reasonably possible and work from there. I'm doing that with my lvl 80 gathering set now actually. I don't need it to be maxed out to be able to go gather night pepper or collectibles, so I'm not bothering. As long as it's good enough to enable me to do those things it's good enough to last until the next set comes out.

Personally I like blowing materia up. But a string like that would irritate me too.

Ouch. I thought I was having a bad day going through 121 craftsman's cunning tier V for a 5th meld on an offhand. I've come to terms with anything not being 100% might as well be 0%. On the flip side, sometimes RNGesus does take pity on you. On two other offhands, I got the same meld to go on first try, so between the 3 of them, the percentage was closer to the stated 5%.
