How many people want a server in AUS/NZ region?

Is there a plan in the future for a server in the oceanic region?

I am from NZ and currently play with gigbit ultra fast fibre (1000 down 500 up) using VPN and gets around 140ms. This latency gives me no issues when dealing with mechanics in savage raids but it does hamper my performance. At 140ms I am unable to double weave with GNB with 3.42 gcd meaning whenever continuation is up I will be clipping if I need to pop a cooldown, worse is most of the time you will pop two cooldowns because of heart of stone.

Double weaving is impossible without clipping and I main GNB, NIN and AST. I can switch to other roles but I am aiming for GNB mount and other melees are too easy.

Currently I am in Japan enjoying the 30ms life in net cafes and I can see the massive difference between the two. The performance difference is high for NIN and popping CDs in time for TBs is no longer an issue even during continuation. This extends beyond the damage increase by being able to double weave it also feels many times more enjoyable to play the game.

Is there anyone else in the oceanic region who feels that we could do with an oceanic server? Or if the numbers of Oceanic players are enough to justify a new server.

Would I like an Australian server? Yeah.

But I don't think I'd make the jump with any of my characters, as they're all pretty well settled where they are.

It would be nice to know what this mystical "Double Weaving" is.

I seriously doubt it would ever happen - our population is a drop in the ocean to some European countries who are grouped together under the one region. Also, ability lag isn't just affected by your geographical location and how far away as the crow flies you are from the server, it also depends on what path your ISP routes you to it, often bouncing you around different countries and networks before you reach SE's servers (which SE has no control over). And as US players attest, often being in the same country as the game servers doesn't always help when the ISP will still route you to another country during that simply due to how the networks are set up. Having a server for your geographical region is not a magic bullet that will suddenly give you excellent latency (also it's well known NIN has a delay built into it's abilities and attacks for technical reasons, so being in the same region won't help anyway).

And before you pass judgement, I'm an Australian player who plays on a US server but who started on a JP one, and I don't think there is much difference between the two latency wise. Would I like an AU server group? Of course I would, but I'm also realistic and know that will never happen, as we just don't have the population to warrant such an expensive outlay for little benefit to SE.

Using 2 oGCDs between GCD skills. The way GNB plays is practically built around double weaving.

There was a recent response from Yoshi about putting servers in Aus if they can work out something about undersea cables but havent heard anything since. I dont think the routing issue will have much impact since AUS and NZ pretty much shares the same cables. Also I have no issues playing as NIN anywhere in Japan and have no routing issues within JP. I am speaking from experience since I was recently playing from NZ just a few weeks ago and it does suddenly give me execellent latency with NIN even with inferior service (the JP connections at net cafes only give me 300 to 600 mbps while the nz ones give me 800 to 980 mbps)

I think you are misunderstanding how Bandwidth and latency work.

In that case, the internet cafe only has "inferior" service in terms of bandwidth. XIV barely uses any data. The difference in terms of game response between a 30mb connection and a 1000mb connection for XIV is nothing XIV uses less than 100 kb/s. What matters is latency. Which is why the JPN connection was better. Higher bandwidth is only good for downloads and 4k streams.

I would love to have 30ms ping but I doubt there are enough oceanic players to justify it to SE.
