Since last week I've been having the game crash with Error Code 17 from time-to-time. The first time it happened was in a Seal Rock match, and it's happened once more elsewhere (don't remember where) that same day, but it most consistently happens when I attempt to enter the desert portion of Azim Steppes. The moment I cross the border between the grass and the sand, the game crashes. If my character is still there when I attempt to log in, it crashes again, and then the next log-in is fine and I don't crash anymore within the desert or moving out to the rest of the Steppe. Today, in particular, I crashed while trying to do the Namazu mikoshi daily, which meant the game shunted me to Reunion when I logged back in. On the plus side, that meant I didn't immediately crash, but on the downside, I then proceeded to crash on attempting to do the daily (it just now occurred to me that I could probably get around the auto-teleport by using my own mikoshi mount instead of the one the quest provides, but that's a workaround, not a fix).
I recently updated my Nvidia graphics drivers, and I might have even done so shortly before I started getting the crashing (don't remember). I've told it to reinstall the drivers, with no improvement. I disabled the Nvidia overlay after noticing another thread that sounded like a similar issue, no improvement. I've run Windows updates the last time it happened, no improvement. I just tried to disable the Discord overlay, no improvement. The only thing that's changed with my system in the past week is driver/Windows/Discord updates, and I wasn't having any crashes before this week.

Were any updates or changes made to the PC that coincide with the crash? Could you try doing a cleanboot? Open the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.

I also don't remember if, right after updating the drivers, I entered the desert area. However, the crash is also somewhat inconsistent -- I didn't crash at all yesterday (but I also entered the desert with the camera facing toward the grassland area) or on a day where the Steppes were experiencing foggy weather (but did crash when it was experiencing rain), and when I crashed just a minute ago before trying the cleanboot, it DIDN'T crash on re-log, which it usually does.Quote:

I had a similar issue where my game was crashing whenever i walked under a specific awning in Twine in Amh Araeng. Unfortunately the solution was ultimately to reinstall the game.

When the game crashes are there any programs running in the background? If so could you try disabling any background programs. Do you only experience this crash with one character?

10-12-2019, 09:11 AMcopycatzeroI always have Chrome up in the background, and I often have Discord up as well. That's been the case since long before the crashing started. I could try closing them next time I know I'm going to be entering that part of the Steppes, but I can't test it now because I've already crashed this session and, as I mentioned, the crash is so inconsistent sometimes that I can't guarantee replicating it if it's just happened.Quote:

[EDIT 3] I uninstalled the game, deleted the old My Documents folder, and reinstalled the game without anything running in the background (insofar as programs that Microsoft doesn't suddenly force me to be running in the background again). I was able to log in without the game crashing. I'll have to wait until a subsequent playsession to try entering the desert before I'll begin to know if that fixed the issue.
[EDIT 4] I entered the desert during today's playsession, and I didn't crash, so it's seeming more likely that reinstalling the game fixed the issue. Still not sure what caused the issue in the first place, but... /shrug

On your system report, I noticed that the game is installed on the D drive. Could you reinstall the game on the C drive? While installing programs/games on secondary drives is normal for PC, Final Fantasy XIV communicates with the C drive constantly.
