Retooling Titan-Egi?
I'm not really much of a pet-class player. But a common thing I hear from my friends who play SMN is that Titan-Egi is pretty much useless in all forms of content.
After all, why have a tank pet if you can just kill stuff faster with the other two, right?
This got me thinking. What if, in a future patch, SMN had Titan-Egi have its skills replaced with more supportive ones.
Right now, it's skills are basically as follows:- Unleash
- Rampart
- An Unleash that stuns
- Circle of Scorn but with 100 more upfront potency in exchange for 50 net potency
None of this seems like it'd be useful for any standard content.
A tanking pet is nice in theory, but XIV isn't designed for this kind of pet.
But what if, some or all of those skills were replaced with any from the following list?- A weaker Shadewalker (transfers pet emnity to your target)
- A weaker Shake It Off
- A weaker Intervention
- A weaker Mantra
- A weaker Cover (mitigates less, or even no damage before recieving it)
- etc.
In other words, providing utility to the party that makes progression easier in the same way that RDM does. But instead of recovering from deaths, it works to prevent them.
Expanding upon this, one could also retool Ifrit-Egi and Garuda-Egi to reflect personal-DPS and party-DPS respectively. The former coming into play in Dungeons, and the latter coming into play in 8-man content.
That way, you'd have three tenets: Personal, Party and Progression.

I do think the Titan abilities needs some love but I also find it hard to justify how a mini version of Titan would be capable of doing some select support actions lorewise. I can understand a Cover or Shake it Off ability where he shields you and the party from damage but giving aggro to someone else is a bit far fetched and increasing healing recieved from a Mantra kinda thing is too. Giving Titan an ability to reduce party damage seems the only logical way to go because switching to it for Ultimate Attacks could be useful or for battles with consistent raid wide damage if the cool down on it's Shake it Off was low. I would think that Titan should have a "Menancing Mountain" Stance as the level 1 ability that let's Titan Tank with increased defense and enmity but at a reduced auto attack speed. This way if you toggled the skill off his basic attack- which I imagine would be a circular AoE- would happen more frequently but with no enmity gain. Then Cover and Shake it Off would be the level 20 and 40 options in any order making the basic attack and ultimate the only real damage options for Titan. It wouldn't over shadow the other pets if it's DPS was notably lower to compensate for it's defensive kit but be a real option in more difficult fights where gear may not be up to par yet. It would definitely suit the need for a Tank pet in solo duties and a support pet in group instances.
