Can't log into the game due to unexpected error

I am playing FF14 through Steam, and as of yesterday I keep receiving multiple error messages when I try to log into the game. Below is the transcribed error message.

An unexpected has occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy XIV.

I have tried to completely delete my FFXIV from My Documents, I was able to log in once. Then, after restoring my configurations and UI backup I got the error again. After wiping clean my FFXIV once more, I did not receive this error message but everytime I logged into the game the client promptly closed. For the thrid time I deleted my FFXIV folder from My Documents, and this error message is back again.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums,

I apologize for the delay in response to this issue.The error you are describing occurs when Direct X crashes. Please try the following:

-Try switching to DirectX 9 by selecting the ‘Config’ button on the launcher
-Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
-Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
