Why isn't the Temple Knights of Ishgard a Grand Company by now?

I know that Ishgard joined the Eorzean alliance fairly recently after Thordan's demise in Heavensward,but by the time Stormblood rolled in the Temple Knights were fighting with the Eorzean alliance to get Ala Mhigo back from the empire

Since you can change your grand company alligence after a certain rank,I kinda hoped they'd add the Temple Knights as a new Grand Company but we still only have 3.

I doubt they'd do it by now since Ishgard's story arc is wrapped up,but I kinda wish they made them into a GC cuz after Heavensward I'd join the Temple Knights and Ser Aymeric in an instant

The Ishgardians still don't really use mercenaries they have a well established standing army, where as each of the 3 grand companies have dedicated divisions for mercenaries and don't have long established standing armies.

Developmentwise? I think it's mostly just that Yoshida wouldn't want to dedicate resources to it, lol. He's not a big fan of "re-treading" over "old content" when you can move full steam ahead to something truly new (something something irony about how little the dev. cycle has changed and that we're still doing most of the same activities in new places).

I'll throw Ishgardian and Ala Mhigan Grand Companies on my list of corners they could un-cut with hypothetical EORZEA II expansion, lol. Flight and swimming in old zones, the other half of Silvertear Lake, another arc of quests that apply to the city-states, recycle some more of the lost 1.0 lore, flesh out some of the stuff that was rushed through in 2013, beastman strongholds, Coerthas lowlands in the old style, a lore library, glamour system overhaul, gear dyeing overhaul, actual Ala Mhigo zone, housing wards...

(But - lorewise - yes, it's just not their style, man. They just got around to accepting adventurers in the walls this year!)

I'm thinking it has to do with:

A. Frontlines having achievements based on the different GCs. Anyone who joins a new GC would basically have to be forced into freelancer role.
B. Not wanting to make new rewards for the temple knights up through captain raink now.
C. The possibility of everyone who's already gotten the old GC stuff surging into the new one.

That and to me until Aymeric cleans house there's still a lot of Temple Knights that are jerks. Even ones that you meet outside of the Dark Knight quests seem to be bad apples. It's one of the things I don't like of their handling along with the Brass Blades. You know there are good members in each and that the public should trust them and yet any time you have to deal with either it's the ones that at least for the Knights makes it look like Aymeric or his 2nd hasn't done any weeding.

They'd have to do a lot of stuff like add them to PVP and such. Moreover, SB only takes place a few months, if not a year after HW. Ishgard is still smouldering. They also don't like mercenaries. Ishgard isn't a city-state like the 3 starting cities, it's a fully-fledged nation. GCs are militias made of soldiers and mercenaries of the city states (not really full armies).

Well maybe not now but in later expansions

it's a small thing really since I loved Ishgard after HW but I won't lose sleep over it,just wondered what was the reason behind the lack of it

True but the bad ones are mostly Thordan loyalist while the rest seemed pretty chill once House Fortemp introduced us to the rest of the houses and knights.

You got me on the Brass blades tho,still sometimes wonder why they're still around especially after the end of ARR

Spoiler alert, we're also not going to get a grand company out of the new army Raubahn is transitioning the resistance into.

Also Ishgard is still a city state. Having a standing army doesn't make it not a city state.

I don't think Ishgard needs or wants a GC-like arrangement. Levements were their latest concession.

What I do think could happen is...House Fortemps, separately from Ishgard, trying to start something. XD After all, Edmont was a fan of employing adventurers and sellswords. He's retired and now Artoirel is in charge, but who knows what Artoirel will try to do...
