FFXIV's current state

Now before you say anything, no, this is not another post saying that FFXIV is dying and that we should all unsub right now. The game is still great, however, I'm certain that many of us can agree that it could be vastly improved.

Lately, many players on the forums have been expressing concern for the game's current state, especially with the release of Eureka. While I'm not entirely convinced that the game will die out anytime soon, I do know that we need to step out of the current cycle and have the game try something different and refreshing. As it stands, endgame content has always been the same, with tomestone grinding, raids and whatnot being present in all three parts of the game. I'm not sure if this is how an MMO should be, but my experience in these games falls quite short.

And so I ask, what do you think about FFXIV right now? What would you change/add? And mostly, are you satisfied with how endgame content is handled right now?

These topics come up from time and time... and have since the beginning of ARR. But Stormblood brought with it all time highs in player population. So I think it's safe to say... what they're doing works. For me personally... it's story and world more than anything else, and I find the endgame fights relatively entertaining. Yeah, the systems in place aren't super innovative... but it's done 'well enough'.

As for trying different things... that's exactly what Eureka is. And Diadem was before that. And Palace of the Dead. And Rival Wings. And so on. Obviously Diadem was not successful. Eureka looks to be, despite being controversial. POTD has been very successful. I think we'll continue to see stuff like that. It's not exactly completely revolutionary, but. Well let me put it this way. There's been a ton of MMO kickstarter projects and even some real MMOs that either try wildly different ideas, or throwbacks to "good old days" MMOs and at best, they end up as niche things. Or you end up with stuff like Destiny, or small-instance games like Dark Souls/Monster Hunter.

There's that dream MMO concept that most people can't really nail down exactly, and occasionally a dev tries something out there and fails or ends up with a niche product. So here we are...

Also consider this. Overwatch is a game born of an abandoned MMO project when Blizzard, the only company besides Square Enix that funds MMOs without outside investors, when they realized they could not realistically do better than WoW. The golden days of traditional MMORPGs are over.

Just a note POTD was not as well received by ppl when it was launched as it seems now.

Ppl did complain that it was too much barebone (and some still do) not to mention it had virtually no reward and was painful doing it for the weapon.
What really made him a success was that it received 2 substantial upgrades in the form or accursed hoards first and then the 51-200 floors.
Before the 3.4 patch ppl actually staying in the zone were really few even though it was a better time proposition for levelling at least on my server it was only with 3.4 and 3.45 (or it was 3.41?) when it really bloom

Which means that Eureka will be success or a flop based exclusively on the devs support of it

Personally I think that real Potd exist from 51 onward 1-50 was just an appetaizer of what would come nothing more

the thing isPeople said like like Potd,but the LAST floor of potd,150+ floor,the floor before were not that appreciated.

And funnily,why 150+ floro was well recieved is that you could not just rush,take lot of mob and AoE,cause you had to be carefull of trap,and monster that are actualy dangerous,im sure anyone who did potd know the real dread of the last floor,those chimara that close to Os you with dragon or ram.,and thats what people want,that its not braindead,taht you have to think a bit before

Eureka is exactly what you're saying what the game needs, yet you say it's one of the reasons the game feels stale and going in cycles. Eureka is something different and refreshing, it's the developers exploring new kind of content. The elemental resistances, the death penalty and the mob chains are all a new twist to the game. It's not the best type of content for everyone but it's a new twist on the game that tries to take it to a new direction

It's Diadem by a new name. It's boring, bland, and repeating all the mistakes that caused Diadem to fail. The elemental system is nothing but a shallow rock-paper-scissors system that adds tedium by making you switch your elements around if you stop fighting the same copy-paste mob. The death penalty is not something to praise, it's sometime to scorn and rightfully so. MMO's have backed away from exp loss for well over a decade now; those of us who suffered those days don't wish for it back because losing your hard work is never fun. Lastly, chaining mobs is nothing new even to this game. You can make chains on exp mobs out in the open world, you probably just never noticed it was a thing because it's very poorly developed and pointless. And like the other points, this isn't something to praise them for. It's been brought up before, but the endless grind of trash mobs is both exhausting and highlights the flaws with the combat in XIV. In XI this type of thing could work, because combat was slower paced to begin with. It also let you have time to chat with the group.

In the end all it is is a a re-skinned Diadem with a shallow rock-paper-scissors system slapped on. It's not new, it's not creative, and most certainly isn't refreshing. There's valid concerns to the state of the game when 17 months of development results in this. Something that is by all measures nothing new and clearly not reflective of over a year of development time.

Except Diadem V1 or V2 had more Content compared to Eureka.

Sure the PvE Side aka. Diadem Fury wasn't received well, yet Diadem Matron sure was populated, even in the end of the last Days of Heavensward.
Dare I say there were more then 50 People waiting at the Snails inside for the Nodes to pop up?

Eureka? Ya, I dunno why it has no Gather/Craft Features, it should after 17 Months of Developement, heck ... there is even Mining NPCs in the Starting Camp which is kinda hilarious.

Right now it's really starting to get weary, all you basically do is getting inside of Eureka ... write "Lv.XYZ lfg", you go to the FATE Train, kill Mobs over and over to spawn a certain FATE.
That's all you do until you reach Lv.19-20 and farm Pazuzu.

Eureka in a Nutshell!

I am new to the whole world of FF14. I have leveld up nicely however, that is due to my knowledge in RPGs. FF14 has brought a whole new aspect to gaming for me. I grinded WOW until there was nothing left and honestly, IMO, FF14 has taken the place as top RPG for me. Even if the servers arent as full as they may have once been, it is a better change of pace than the call of dutys of the world, or the other main stream commercial games that are like 10 hours long because the focus is souley on graphics.

I enjoy the fact that once my Lancer reaches its max level, I can start a new class and keep that trend going until they are all done up the way I want. Currently I am working on my healing class as well so I can REZ me and my friends while we are questing.

I hope FF14 never ends and if it does, I hope it only ends because a new FF online MMORPG has taken its place.

Again, just my opinion, but people always want more and more and more and are never satisfied with what they have.

Your reasoning is flawed because by making your statement you assume that eureka failed because it was an innovation. No, Eureka failed because it was a poorly designed piece of content, just as Diadem used to be.
