This sucks... the game is not letting me gain Experience Points. I am at level 50 now, so could that be it? Is level 50 the highest i can go? I am going to miss leveling up <sob, sob> thanks for your reply. -jason

Level 50 is the max without any expansions.
Heavensward ups the max to 60.
Stormblood will up it to 70.
Edit: Just curious. You have no job stone, no high level gear... no nothing. What do you actually do on this character?
How do I get an expansion? Thank you my good sir!
The first expansion is called "Heavensward" and can be bought everywhere you can buy games.
The second expansion is called "Stormblood" and includes "Heavensward". You can preorder "Stormblood" at the moment on variouse sites and stores.
Go get your dragoon job stone! D:
Pray tell... from the words you've typed, it sounds as though there is a lot out there that I am missing! I have been just going through the story line, but it sounds like there could be more for me to do. Please tell me more about this job stone, high level gear, etc. Much obliged! -jason
If you don't have a job stone, go get that... immediately. For Lancer you need to unlock Marauder in Limsa Lominsa and level it to 15. Then you can do a quest chain to unlock the Dragoon job. You'll have 5 job quests which give you additional skills up to level 50 and after you get Heavensward, you can do an additional job quest every 2 levels for even more skills. Playing as a class (Lancer, Pugilist, Marauder, Gladiator etc etc.) is considered poor form as the upgraded jobs (Dragoon, Monk, Warrior, Paladin etc etc.) for each class are stronger with much needed better skills
