Questionnaire on how you run PotD

This is a questionnaire that was in this thread http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ce-of-the-dead but it got buried. I saw some responses that seemed pretty interesting, some of the answers pretty similar to one another.

Briging it out to see if it could get more answers plus killing time while the relocation goes on. Looking forward to them!

Again, talking in chat? Usually none. People just splitting off for a moment to peek into siderooms? One every second run on average if I'm not counting myself.

I assume this also means peeking into nearby siderooms to check for chests.

Only if there's some sort of obvious conflict in objectives, so usually not.
I'll just occasionally split off from the party to peek into nearby siderooms and grab any silver chests that are easy enough to reach.
-By that same note, how many times does at least one party member complies with your request in a week?
Out of the few times I felt the need to speak up the group went along with it each time save for once.
-Have you ever wanted to kick someone because they did not comply?
Yes, once, and only because "not comply" meant "sabotaging the run trying to wipe the group".
-Have you ever actually kicked someone because they did not comply?
Yes, the same person as above.

You bet I do. People springing mimics then running away and people crowding chests and/or looting in combat. If it happens, especially if three people decided to crowd the booby trapped chest, I tell them politely that their behaviour is not wise and to please let a single person loot chests after the room has been secured. If they don't listen I'll be extra careful to keep my distance from any chests and only engage with one mob at a time even if there are multiple pulled so I can attempt to salvage the run if things go south and the pack resets.

I'd really like to be able to get a "Minesweeper" title after triggering a silly amount of mines, does that count?
I'd also love for silver chests to take priority over golden chests when displayed as icons on the map.

Almost never. I've been doing my 8-10 runs a night for almost 2 months now and only had one instance where 2 people spoke up about wanting a chest run. We could not agree on a path, resulting in a kick. But, no one spoke up in the beginning that they wanted it. The chest runners waited until floor 54 to speak up in a hostile manner.

-From a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being extremely satisfied and 1 being extremely unsatisfied, how would you rate your overall weekly completions of floor brackets:

A) 51-60 (5)

*I don't enter floor brackets passed floor 60, as I don't feel like speedrunners belong there. Exp vs. time and all.

*Mixed speedrun, killing only what needs to be killed but pick chests if they're in the same room
^ I will pluck silver chests in the room if anyone in the party is not 99/99.

*Pure chestrun, avoiding most monsters if possible to get all chests, then killing to progress

*Mixed chestrun, going after easy chests if possible but killing things along the way as well

Kind of. If they're stealthily checking the extra rooms and bringing a few additional trash mobs back to the passage, I will assist.

Yes, since this happens to be in my favor most of the time.

I've never been on the wrong side of the majority, so, no? If I'm ever in that situation, I'd imagine I would sit at the open passage hoping for a kick.

Never.

Yes.

Players pulling mimics from another room and bringing it to the group. I'll wait until they get Pox before engaging, unless I can safely assume the mimic will die before the cast.

Incinsistent; usually once or twice a week, and usually just one bracket if I do. unless my friends wanna run 101+, then we'll knock like 60 floors of that out at once.
I'm at 99/99 aetherpool and got all the loot from potsherds, so I don't really need to go back unless it's for EXP.

People don't usually speak up at all, but it tends to be implied heavily on 51-60 and then less so as you move further on. Some folks will just sit on the cairn of passage without saying a word.

Pretty much no one. If they do, I make an effort to check for chests. No one explores all rooms. If this happens at all, it's generally on floors lower than 50.

Since I tend to do wither 51-60, or shotgun the whole thing, I can't really give an assessment of each set. But I don't have any problems with deep dungeon runs with pugs 90% of the time. I'd say 4 is accurate.

This is my default. And probably what I'll still do regardless, unless the majority of the group is vehement as to otherwise.

Usually. It's if the majority agrees, but also if the request is polite and well-articulated. If they call me toxic for not adhering to their whims for instance, they can get the hell out.

Nah, I usually just go with the flow.

I generally don't have any, so every time?

Yes, but generally only when their attitude becomes unsavory as well.

I really wish people would stop pulling mobs off of me when I'm rolling melee. I know, tanks gonna tank, and people wanna focus fire, but if it's just one mob and I'm playing a punchman, just let me handle it. I got it, dude. Hell, I got it for up to like 3 mobs. Unless, y'know, there's nothing else to hit or what have you. Small maps happen.

I am all for more mobs as to rejoice in the glory of combat, but in terms of progression, I feel like aetherpool is more of a tax than anything, since it's required for 51+ in certain amounts and influences damage taken and done more than I'd like.
If I wanna keep running 101+, I don't really have a chance to grab kinna weapons,
for instance. EXP is fine, it's still best in the game. Progression is fine, if I can do 101+ I can handle 51-100 easy peesy. I'd like to see more special encounters, though, like the dead NPCs and stuff. Those are fun, but just too rare.

...Maybe let me exchange potsherds for crystal sand. That'd be nice.

I don't know. Probably 10 sets or more a week when I'm doing them. I'll probably do 12 sets of floors today and then I'll be done leveling characters, so I'll stop doing PotD until RDM and SAM are a thing.

Realistically I'll grab some chests, if I feel like it, but I don't even necessarily grab every chest on my way and I outright refuse to touch silvers.

It's a matched group, so I do what I want and they can do whatever they want. I may not be thrilled about it, but whatever. I was more helpful before I had run PotD like 150 times and got bored of it.

No.

Yes.

No, I've only kicked people for being obnoxious.

People who seem to think we can level past 60. At least I assume that's what they think, given that they constantly pull 600 more mobs than we need. I just complain about them to my friend in Skype and typically do nothing to help them.

PotD is boring and I only care about the rewards when in matched groups, so naturally anything that lowers the amount of effort or increases the rewards is good with me.

Really off and on. Reason is I go to simply help friends more often then not. I will have weeks where it is none, then a single day where it is 10 or more. Useally it goes in the format of 2 x 50, 2 x 60, 2 x 70, 2x 80, 2 x 90, 2 x 100, then reset, because how aetherpool gain works.

None really, I go scout rooms as needed, help as needed. Often my friend will use call out macros if she needs assistance to people know she needs help. She has them to allow people be aware of pathing monsters and letting them know something is following them since observation skills tends to be subpar with randoms. Point in explaining that macro is that is the only thing I see when it comes to talking about what to do. When they are ignored my friend questions them and explained she needed help. Often this ends up being replied to in a toxic manner by speed runners where they are kicked at that point.

None, till there is a conflict with people sitting at the gate doing nothing. I really do not keep track what floors I see this in but I have seen it above 60 though very rarely

91-100 can screw you over with rng sometimes, just annoying to deal with esp when you have 1 tank and 3 healers leading to no damage output. 51-60 is a 1 due to how people act. People do not talk, they expect you do it their way and when this is not followed, leads to chat harassment. MPK over not speedrunning is ridiculous.

I would call it a mixed style, I do not go after every single chest like I seen a rare few do, I will go for chests that are easy to get, even gold ones since they can help get more silvers, but if a room has too much monsters in it I defenly ignore if simply gold, or sac for silvers.

Hard to answer since it is always 2 v 2 for me. However I do not 'comply' to whatever style someone wants if they speak in a hostile manner. Depending on the extent of the hostility I kick them for that reason more then "conflict of play style"

No, I do not need anything, my friend does not need anything, we just help this other friend to get exp/chests and when we do that, I just follow to help, while they get the 255 weapons because they want to gear all their jobs, and with that objective, it is a bit hard to spread around 270/275 weapons.

I do not know how to answer this question, as said it is always 2 v 2 and nothing comes out of negotiations. Every time there is a conflict, it is resolved by kicking the speedrunners due to hostility. I may of seen once where in chat someone admitted to defaulting to speedrunning but was willing to do chests, but this was on an 81-90 floor.

No, all kicks was done out of harassment

People not using rages correctly, people putting the party at risk due to wiping or other lack in skill problems. I had a VERY CLOSE wipe once because a tank failed to keep hate off me from 3 monsters, because one was on me I could not heal the party effectively. This turned to an almost wipe when someone ran over a mine while in this situation to kill me. lucky someone survived to phoenix down me. They kept blaming the mine for the almost wipe, and not the fact it would been prevented regardless if the tank kept hate. Basically I am explaining my pet peeve here is misplaced blame on traps for near failures that I have to save the day from because of reckless pulling while triggering traps.

(the above 2 is taken from someone else that I agree with, here is mine):
Change 235 to 15/15( or 10/10?) aetherpool
Change 255 to 30/30 aetherpool
Add 270 (or 265) with needing 60/60 upgrade the 30/30.
235+ weapon is the expected now, not the exception, while 270(or 265) should be a no brainier since at release 240 was the highest weapon, while deep weapon was 235. There should be no issue with getting a 235 with only 15 or even 10/10 givin how PvP works and that gives you a 235 weapon. also reason for the edit making 235 10/10 has to do with the current, 90 total for max, with that change of 10/10 for 235, it be 100/100. However, 45/45 for 255 total might be too easy. But ya, def needs some kind of change like this. I really hope this is in mind of changing the system for SB

Lately, not at all. When I do run PotD, how I run it depends on what I am trying to get out of it.

If I am starting from 0 on Aether arms/armor then I will run 1-10 solo a few times to get a decent base. This happens very infrequently, but I've gone through it a couple of times on two different characters. These days even from a fresh start I can solo 1-10 in about 20 minutes, and this lets me get a decent amount of upgrades before I rely on strangers to do higher (lower?) floors.

If all I want is exp or tomes I will run through 51-80. There isn't much of a time variance in these floors and the rewards are the same across the board.

Personally, I haven't seen anyone be vocal about it. I will see people who will just camp on the exit to the next floor when it becomes active, but I don't think I've seen anyone start a conversation about it.

I have actually seen this. It's my personal belief that running through the content faster is the best way to make everyone happy but most of the time I don't care what the group decides.

I don't go out of my way to insist everyone do it my way. I believe that even for the people who want silver chest upgrades the fastest way is to clear each floor as fast as possible and pick up incidental chests on the way, maybe stopping to grab the occasional easy chest in a side-room. But most of the time it's not worth arguing about.

People who afk for the majority of the content or who afk without saying anything.

If they increased the exp I wouldn't complain but I think it's a fair amount already. As far as improving PotD I think the traps should be scrapped entirely and they should add randomized floor clear requirements. Rather than killing mobs until you've met the quota for the next floor to open up I'd like to see some more interesting ways to get the floor to open up. Kill a specific mob, Kill all of a specific type of mob, instead of randomly spawned mobs give us the occasional floor with only one mini-boss type mob. give us stuff to break up the monotony.
