Translation Corner 2.0 (or should it be 4.0?)

Hello everyone,

For those who have been here long enough to remember, way back in 2011 I made a thread in the old forums for the purpose of translating segments of the Japanese forums and/or any news or interviews related to FF 14.

In light of the recent 3rd year anniversary interview and other news that has appeared in Japanese only, I'm reviving that old thread for the purpose of helping reduce the amount of misinformation and Google (Mis)Translation going on.

So without further ado, if anyone wants something related to FF14 translated, please post a link here, or the text itself. I can't guarantee I will get back to you immediately, but I will try my hardest to keep up as much as I can.

Thank you for your generosity, google translate is a blessing and a curse (fast easy translations, also with the high chance of being terrible quality - language is hard to robot lol)~

Do you mind going over some of the blue mage possible misinformation? I saw you doing that in the thread and It would be nice what the non-google translation of what it was saying, it felt like people were saying that Blue Mage was going to ONLY be a solo job and not a job you could partake in duty finder.. but even the google translate of a linked article was disagreeing with that suggestion.

So if we could get that out of the way that'd be great in this translation dedicated area, I really like blue mage and would love to have a non disheartening reference lol. Of course please do not derail Kaedan's thread on if you think what job will be the next one or not, I just want to have the info that says it will or will not be a solo only job (YoshiP's speculation), as that seemed to be stuff people were saying.

the three links in question from the thread I know you started to go over:

1, 2, and 3. I saw you do your interpretation and paraphrase sometimes but I don't recall seeing a translation, and of course we have that one YoshiP room that is reference sometimes..

And if someone would be kind enough to provide the locked YoshiP room quote, if they feel it's counter to the information provided here (because from what I read from another, it is either mistranslated/incomplete/misunderstood or it is actually counter to one of the above articles).

Thanks for being the first customer. Just to give an overview of your question, Yoshi P in 2014 talked about how if they were to ever implement BLU, he was thinking it would be a Solo-only job. So people aren't without reason to think that would be the case. However, recently he talked about how he thought while "collection" was extremely interesting, he didn't think a solo-only BLU would be very interesting. So he is thinking to implement it more as a "Monster Expert"... whatever he means by that. lol

Ok, on to your links. First one (happens to be what I just reference above):

Alright, I'll bite and ask if you wouldn't mind clearing up a part from an interview from a while ago. I always felt like it was poorly fan translated and resulted in a spread of misinformation, so a more accurate and direct translation of it would certainly help clear things up.

It's from this Gamewatch interview, particularly this segment about Dark Knight and Samurai:

Thanks so much, it's nice to have it in a more readable format and more properly spelled out that his idea of a Samurai is of a kinagashi wearing iaijutsu master.

So yeah, if SAM is the second job (and only other job) for Stormblood, then we'll be getting two DPS most likely.

I disagree only because his concept of a samurai is contrast to how the job is always portrayed in Final Fantasy games. Samurai as a job in Final Fantasy games is synonymous with their iconic armor.

Combined with his comment that the next job is true to final fantasy, and that despite his personal opinion on the job it was still on their list of 2 tank jobs they had to pick between for Heavensward, if SAM is coming in 4.0 my money is on it still being a tank.

But going with that, that could have ment for this expansion we possibly would of had MCH/SAM/AST for a 2dps/1 heal, we don't have any information on when they changed their minds or if they really planned for SAM to tank at all. Possibly we could have saved it then had DRK/RDM/??? for a 1 tank/1dps/??? (if more) but all speculation I feel. If there is then sorry for not seeing. :S

Except we do know it was one of two options they were deciding between specifically for the tank role.


"Especially for the tank role, we were actually down to the wire determining which. We had two possible choices, Dark Knight and Samurai. There's been so much feedback on both, especially Samurai. We had a really long and hard discussion over this and finally went with the Dark Knight." From the PAXEast Panel (30:37 mark).

They were really deciding down to the last minute on which they'd pick and went with DRK because it matched the expansion thematically and SAM would have been too close to the release of Ninja and they weren't too sure they wanted two eastern themed jobs released so close to each other. So the logical conclusion is that SAM is still considered on their list for future tanks and it's role was decided back then.

Anyways, this isn't particularly the purview of what this thread was made for, so I'll stop discussing this here as not to digress the thread any further.
