*SPOILER* So I think the new primal in 3.5 part 2 is...

Shinryu. I believe that the new Primal is Shinryu.
The reasoning for this is the dropping of the fact that Omega is going to be involved in 3.5 at some point, if the trailer is to be believed. Another thing to note as well is the source of the aether as well for the Primal, which will be Nidhoggs dragon eyes.

What was Omega created for in the first place? To be able to fight Shinryu. If Omega is to be used to battle/contain the new Primal, it would make so much sense for the Primal to be Shinryu, so by the time of the next raid (Rift of Time/Interdimensional Rift) it will make a great callback to Final Fantasy 5 as well.

Does this seem likely and I'm not reading too deep? What do people think of this and is there any other evidence I might of missed?

I hope we see Shinryu in the Omega story, but I don't think they're gonna add a new primal for 3.5 part 2 due to ilv cap. Zurvan weapons are 265, and if they go any further than that, then the primal weapons will become more powerful than savage ones. Of course it can be a normal trial like Steps of Faith tho... Hope you're right.

Shinryu is a dragon isn't it? Why would Ala Mhigan's worship Shinryu? Its never even been mentioned before in FF14.

Plus if you look of screenshots of that cutscene when the sphere is forming you can clearly see very human looking legs.

I don't think we will fight it either. I think Omega is going to blow it to smithereens and blow a hole through a mountain on the other side of the wall.

Well, I don't think it will be Rhalgr either. I think it would be Shinryu as it wasn't specified what exactly what Ilberd's Primal will look like. I just think that due to Omega being involved, and the possibility of the influence of the dragons eyes it will end up being Shinryu. Btw, can i see the picture when the legs are there? I never noticed it. Plus, considering it's mirroring the Calamity, with a lot of similarities, why couldn't the being contained in the Dalamud-esque creation be dragon?

If anything Shinryu will probably appear after Omega Weapon, probably as the reason why it'll disappear from the Main Scenario to later become the 8-man raid.

Whether Shinryu will be a part of the raid or be saved for the next expansion...well we need to see if it actually appears.

On Rhaglr, between the Ala Mhigans dieing words and Ilbred being an extremist for the liberation of Ala Mhigo its about a 90% chance of being either Rhalgr or surprise Ramuh. It COULD be something else but the evidence isn't pointing to many other possiblities. I'd also like to point out that this is just using in-game lore. Shinryu has not appeared at all unless one of the remaing First Brood has changed its name from what we currently know. Personally if it isn't Rhalgr I'd say its literally Dalamud as a Primal. It already has a cult to flock to its protection at that.

I guess it's possible. I think Rhalgr would be more intense/interesting overall though - and it ties in more neatly with Ala Mhigo. A large portion of 2.0's - and 1.0's - story revolved about Bahamut. 3.0 was similarly and understandably dominated by Nidhogg. It feels a bit too soon to introduce another major dragon that we have to fight.

If there's a new primal in 3.5 part 2, and it isn't Rhalgr then I will be very surprised.

The whole first part of the story included him being invoked by name by the Ala Mhigan forces as they died during the (unknown to them) process of summoning, and then it being imprisoned. The final cutscene was even the Scions all discussing what they would work on in order to find a way to defeat it more permanently in order to not take the sacrifice made in vain.

The issue is that a Primal requires worshippers or at least believers to be sustained. Even Odin tempers one person. Primals don't have true form independent of the belief that gives them form. Thus for the primal to be a dragon primal it would need people sustaining it. Huge numbers of people worship Rhalgr so a Rhalgr primal has no issue. Shinryu however has never been mentioned once and the only primal like dragon was Bahamut.

Another question as well, is Nidhogg still able to be active through his eyes? Both of them are used in the ritual, and were together in Ilberds hand, wouldn't that have an effect on the Primal?

As in, if Nidhoggs rancor is still active and persists in the eye, could that end up influencing the Primal to become more draconic in someway, leading to Shinryu?

Its very much implied that when we beat the Shade of Nidhogg and riped out the eyes the spirit of Nidhogg left for good. The eyes are likely simply Aetheric batteries. Even if his rancor was present, I don't think it would be enough to fill the role of believer to sustain the primals form.

Simply put there is a lot of reasons why it would make sense to be Rhalgr and very few to have Shinryu make sense. If Shinryu does turn up it will likely be in the Bend of Time/Interdimensional Rift. Infact we might find out that Shinryu is a dragon from wherever Midgardsormr came from.
